Personally, no offense or anything, I don't really like horse stories. But I like the idea! I know, I could write a story about a girl who HATES horses.... *begins scribbling furiously*

If no one else is going to start it, I'll give it a go!

Silken strands of mane knotted between her fingers, stinging her face, which was alight with laughter in the morning sunlight. Black hooves sent up a transparent spray in the shallow waters of the ocean. The girl on the horse's back was a small one, slight of build with light blond hair and bright green eyes. The horse itself, however, was a much different story. It was a jet black gelding, tall, around 16 hands, with a dark mane, broken only once by a streak of silver halfway down.

The two excidetdly danced in the surf, the air around them drowned with the sound of whinnies and laughter. Neither the small, slight girl, nor the lumbering, muscled mount noticed a figure on the top of a nearby cliff, nearly submerged in the dark evergreen shade. This figure was a keen-eyed man with a hawk nose and thin lips. He said, in a whisper so low that only an innocent bird that had flitted nearby heard him, "You may dance and play now, little Marlie, but you will not laugh last."

*cannot resist tiny nitpick, sorry* It has nothing to do with the story, but 16 hands is not a particularly tall horse. At the withers, a 16 hand horse would stand approximately 5'3", so 16 hands is about average for height. Note that 14 hands is the minimum height for a horse to be classified as a horse and not a pony, and 16 hands is only eight inches taller than that. So a tall horse would be about 17 or 18 hands (1 hand = four inches, give or take). Other than that, bueno. *nod*

Sorry about that TNO, thanks. Most of the horses that I'm around are pretty short, so I kind of spaced out about that. Thanks!

Like I said, it was a tiny issue and anyone who didn't know how much a hand was would have just taken it as it was. But that's the beauty of research and getting feedback from people who live all around the country. :)
