Leo~

Who are these people? l wonder as l look around the small building. What are they doing here?  What am l doing here?

One of them, an elf, cries, "Oh, you're awake!  We thought you might die!"

"Right......" l growl, "And what am l doing here?"

"You broke your wing, and your leg. Also there was an poison arrow in your other wing."

l feel claustrophobic in the tiny gatehouse. "It's stuffy in here. l would like to go outside."

"You can't," says the girl with wings, firmly. "You have to heal more. That leg of yours would handle any weight."

"Oh yes? And whom do you think you are commanding me about? You aren't even human."

She filches at my words. "l-l am hu-" "Very believeable," l say, sarcastically, glaring at her.

"l'll show you, you ungratful little-" She stomps out. A few moments later, l hear the screach of a falcon.

Cyclone says dier. Who dies?

Amethyst~
I stare in shock after Millenia. Leo was attacked by guards, shot by a poisoned arrow, and you start arguing with him? I want to yell (Shadow Dragon, Amethyst is really... upset right now. Please tell Millenia not to take this personally).
"I'll go talk to her." Joy Rose pushes past Cale and through the doorway, into the night.  Leo struggles to get up, and as he moves, his eyes fill with pain. He lays back on the floor, panting and moaning. Allyson leaps to her feet and dashes over to him.
"Millenia was right, you shouldn't move," she says. The phoenix flutters down beside her as they bend over Leo. I look around for Evelyn, and I see her in a corner.  There are some brown sacks full of who-knows-what, and Evelyn's head is resting on one. Her eyes are closed and she is breathing peacfully. A falcon's screech from outside startles me.
"You'd better go see what is going on," the pheonix says to Allyson, "I'll stay here and tend to Leo." Allyson nods and sprints out the door. It is now Cale, the pheonix, Leo, myself and sleeping Evelyn in the room. Cale looks like he wants to say something, but I turn my back on him. Don't think about the jewel! Don't think about your father! But of course, I do.

Allyson~

I bolt out  of the door as fast as I possibly can. I need to catch up with Millenia which I know will be a very difficult task, even though I just discovered that being an elf makes me slightly faster than most humans. This isn't a human we're talking about here though......I mean, Millenia is still a human, but she's currently in falcon mode. How am I supposed to get to her? She could land on the highest cliff in the world if she wanted too, and as soon as I was at the top and could reach ot and grab her, she could just fly away for the fun of it.

I don't blame her for being angry at  Leo, but I wish she would talk more gently with him instead of flying away.

"Allyson" she calls out.   I look up and see her perched on a branch in a huge oak tree. "Tell the others to leave me alone for a few minues, I'll be in soon."     So I dash back inside and relay the message to my friends. Then we all try to have a pleasant conversation with Leo, which just comes out confusing with lots of overly dramatic and sarcastic remarks.

Millennia~

Dusk is falling.

l feel the rough bark of the oak tree beneath my hands.

l am still  mad at the griffin. He was so ungrateful, and l had helped him!

The cool dusk breeze blows passed me, feeling good on my face.

There is  a rustle of leaves behind me, and a hand clamps over my mouth. A horried smell feels my nose. The world before me crumples and all goes dark.

Amethyst~

We sit and talk with Leo until we are exhuasted. We learned that he was from a group of griffins, but he had left them and found shelter in the courtyard. He heard Nellethiel and I, and he woke up, only to be attacked by the guards. I stared at his wing and his leg. This is all my fault. Millenia still doesn't come in. Finally, I notice Allyson smothering a yawn.

"We should all get some rest. I'll go back to the castle and hope no one noticed that I was gone," I say.

"Where should we sleep?" Joy Rose asks.

"You can sleep in my room, and so not to arouse suspicion, you can just pretend to arrive in the morning, like you were supposed to," I tell her. Joy Rose agrees.

"I'll stay with Leo," the pheonix says.

"I will stay with Eva," Allyson announces.

"Are you sure?" I question, "It would be hard to explain why you are here, but you could have one of the guest rooms. We could work something out, or you could stay-" I yawn. I won't admit it, but I am sleepy.

"I-I let me think," Allyson replies.

"No need to wake Evelyn," Cale says from behind me, "she can sleep here. As for me, I'll escort you to the castle." I want to say no. I want to yell at him, but instead, something makes me agree.

"And Millenia?" Joy Rose questions.

"We will find her on our way to the castle and tell her we are going to get some sleep. She is welcome to rest wherever she wants to," I answer.

"I don't think there is room in here. Millenia can sleep outside," Leo mutters.

"Let's go," Cale says, gently helping me up. Joy Rose, with an abundence of energy, leaps out the door ahead of us. I hope Sara Ann didn't notice I was gone.

Calcspar~

Excellent I think as I secure my hammock between the trees. Now that the rain has stopped, this will provide good shelter. I tie my sack in a branch above me and check my water supply; I will have to get some more soon. I settle in my hammock. This is routine for me. I cannot remember a time when I had not been roaming the four-corner kingdom, snatching whatever food and supplies I could get. The forrest provides plenty, and I like living alone. I have experimented with the idea of stealing the Eternity Jewel before the princess inherits it in four days, but I have not decided what I will do. I don't know whether to believe the old legend that it will make you the most powerful person in the world, but it would sell for a lot if I had it... A screech of a falcon fills the sky. I do not feel tired at all. Perhaps I will do some midnight prowling.

Allyson~

I really want to stay with Eva and Leo, but they would probably like some time alone. Normally, I would stay there anyway, but I'm so tired, and a bed would be a lot more comfortable than the wooden floor of this shack. Plus, Amethyst was so kind to offer for me to sleep with her, so I accept it.

We walk towards the castle, but we can't find Millennia anywhere. She must be scathing mad, or else we would see her perched on a branch. We look for a good half hour but she is nowhere in sight.

"Oh well, I guess we'll see her tomorrow then," I say.

"What if something happened to her," says Joy Rose.

"If anyone dared attack Millennia, she'd fight them off in a nanosecond," I say. "Nothing could of happened."

Then, we sneak into Amethyst's room, being extra careful that no one notices us, and I sink into a soft, warm bed. Nothing could be better right now and I am asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.

So sorry! Been really busy.

Joy Rose~

I lay on the bed, not daring to go to sleep. I need to think. Who were half these people? Especially the guy who was rude to my cousin, and couldn't get my name right. I smile in the darkness. As I sort these things out I sink into a dreamless sleep. When I wake up, pink and orange dawn light bath the room. Remembering what Amythest said I quietly get up, noting that Allyson is gone. I slip out the window, hoping Amythest's annoying maid won't notice anything unusual. I hit the ground with a soft thump, and look around for any onlookers. Nothing suspecting meets my eye. I gather my skirts and dash towards the forest.

Sitting in a tree for half a morning quite bored me, but when I was positive everyone was up I slipped to the ground. I had seen Allyson leave the castle along with several others who had spent the night. After retrieveing my suitcase from where I dropped it the night before I walk boldly up to the front door and ring the bell.

Amethyst~

Being a princess, my room is a rather large and nice one. My bed is near the window, and across from it is a large, beautiful fireplace for the winter. In between the window and the wall with the fireplace is a door leading to my bathroom. Behind the fireplace is an area with a walk-in closet, and other necessities of a princess. Also in that area are two extra beds. One I just use for decoration and adorn it each morning that I remember to in large, lovely pillows and such. Joy Rose slept in that bed, kindly giving Allyson the slightly bigger one. When we came in last night, Allyson and Joy Rose attempted to wash some of the mud off and I gave them each clean dresses. While they prepared for bed, I told Cale what we had of a plan, and he snuck down into his guest room. I was done being angry at him for the time as tiredness overtook all other feelings. Finally, finally I was in bed and asleep. Now I am awake, looking at Allyson and Joy Rose's empty beds. The sun is high in the sky and I realize that I slept in later than usual. I hurriedly dress, brush my hair and put on fresh shoes, as I threw the remaining one from last night away. Sara Ann greets me at the door, and I am relieved she doesn't seem to know anything about last night. I force myself to walk down the main staircase, to look more like a lady. Before I stop at the great hall for breakfast with my parents, I walk towards the guest rooms, making it appear to a passerby that I am simply wandering. I find Cale's door and prepare to knock, but I cannot do it. I turn back to the great hall, and find myself alone. I meander around the castle for a few minutes, until my parents awake. I am wearing one of my favorite dresses. It is a light, amethyst purple. The skirt has a little bit of fullness to it, and the sleeves are edged in silver. I almost run into Cale as I pace in front of the doorway to the great hall.

"Good morning," he says, smiling without warmth. He bows slightly, and I curtsey, then laugh, the tension of last night forgotten. Cale and I walk inside the huge, wooden double doors, and sit down across from each other.

"Allyson is gone. I suspect she went to check on Leo. Joy Rose will pretend like she wasn't here at all last night, and she will be here soon," I tell him. Cale begins to say something, but the door opens again and my parents enter.

"Good morning!" I smile brightly, in a cheery mood. Mother sighs dramatically for no reason that I can see, and father doesn't even register me.

"Ah, so you are the ambassador from the North. Wonderful for you to join us!" he says to Cale. Father takes his place at the head of the table, and soon maids serve our breakfast. Father and Cale are deep in conversation about the four-corner kingdom, but it is all political and I choose not to listen to them. Suddenly, the bell for the front gate resounds through the castle.

"MayIpleasebeexused?" I say, and without waiting for an answer, I jump up, discreetly grab a few rolls from the table and run out of the great hall.

"When will she ever be a lady?" Mother sighs again. Remembering my very lady-like curtsey from this morning, I turn to look at Cale, and he nods knowingly. I run all the way to the front gate, struggling to hold on to the rolls. I find that a guard has already let Joy Rose in, recognizing her from her many visits here. I hope he doesn't notice she is wearing one of my dresses. Joy Rose and I greet each other like we haven't seen each other in months, all the while winking and trying not to break out into hysteric laughter. Joy Rose spots the rolls in my arms immediately.

"Are those for me?" she asks hungrily.

"No, they are for everyone else."

"Everyone except me? I'm hungry!"

"You can get yourself something to eat here while we deliver these rolls."

"I can't wait that long. Can I have at least one?" she begs.

"No! Let's hurry before anyone misses us." We politely ask the guard to let us out again, and he consents without question.

"Here! Hold some of these," I begin to hand some of the rolls to Joy Rose, but the eager look in her eyes makes me say, "Never mind." We race to the gatehouse, open the door, and squeeze inside.

"Millenia didn't come in last night" is the first thing I am greeted with, from a very worried-looking Allyson.

"I am sure she flew off somewhere. She will be back once she cools down," I assure her. Leo is arguing with everyone about getting up and walking around, but they force him down. The phoenix, Eva is gone and Evelyn is shyly trying to sooth Leo. Nellethiel is standing in a corner.

"I brought breakfast!" I say, passing out the rolls. Everyone eagerly eats, and Joy Rose and I leave. We pick some wildflowers on the way back to the front gate, giving us an innocent exuse for going outside.

"Amethyst, did anyone notice you were gone last night?" Joy Rose asks, momentarily forgetting her hunger.

"I don't think so. We will have to find out," I answer, just as I hear someone exclaim my name.
