The world of Decepmyth

Everyone knows that there is a fantasy land somewhere out there. Some people translate it as Neverland, or Narnia. Others say that this fantasy land is a part of our world that we are oblivious to. For example, Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry, or Camp Halfblood and the idea of the greek myths living among us. However you think of this land, there is one thing we can all agree upon: that it is real.

Welcome to Decepmyth; the world of deception and illusion, my translation of this fantasy land. Decepmyth can only be reached by one way, and that is words. Words are the only thing that come close to describing Decepmyth, though it remains indescribable. Perhaps the closest accounts of Decepmyth are described in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, as it is a snow covered land with an abundance of darkness, evil and magic, as well as beautiful wonders beyond your imagination. If you dare to journey into this land, I will be your guide, but be warned, I can not tell you if you will come out alive or not. You may discover that there is a much bigger power in Decepmyth than you ever dreamed of, and one of you holds the key to it.

Do you dare to venture into the land of Decepmyth?

Here is an introduction to Decepmyth to read while we wait for June 30. You may still join! The story will pick up from where this intro leaves off. Notice that this story is from Indigo's PoV for most of it, and then switches to ski-lodge style. If you like this way of writing, please let me know as I will be narrorating nearly everything. I know you were hoping to find this narrorated by The Illusionist, and I apologize as she (the gender we will decide on for now) is very busy finding the heir to Decepmyth. If we decided to use this style, it will not always be written from Indigo's PoV, but everyone would get a turn. Without further ado, her is the intro including a breif history of Decepmyth.

When Indigo woke up, it was snowing in her room. She had been getting colder as the night wore on, and as she reached for more blankets, she realized something was wrong. Snow covered her furniture in thick layers, and it was falling ever so gently from her ceiling. Gasping, Indigo searched the snow drifts for her bedroom slippers, which she misplaced constantly. After feeling through the cold, wondery flutters, Indigo’s hand brushed against something, or more accurately, two somethings. These were her indigo colored slippers, which were thankfully right where they were supposed to be. After wrapping herself in blankets and shoving her feet into her slippers, Indigo wandered around her room, sticking her fingers in the snow in awe and shock. The moonlight from her window glittered across the snow-covered room, making everything seem so beautiful and breathtaking. She stretched her hand towards what she thought was her dresser, but it was just another mound of snow. She turned back towards her bed, but she couldn’t see it. Panicked, Indigo’s eyes swept the room frantically, only to discover that it wasn’t a room anymore. There were no walls, no furniture, no windows or doors, just glittering snow. Everywhere. Indigo shivered and cried out, and she heard an answering call. Fear bit her heart, and her wispy breaths puffed in front of her mouth in a strange rhythm. She turned around in circles, sure that at any minute, a leering face would pop up from the snow drifts. She heard shuffling noises, and instantly turned to them, momentarily forgetting about the dreadful cold creeping up her legs swishing around her fingers. She was surprised to find a girl who looked near her age, with maple-brown hair and eyes of the exact same shade.

“Hello,” the girl said, staring curiously at Indigo, “how did you come to Decepmyth?”

“Decepmyth?” Indigo asked, taking a step backward.

“Decepmyth. Where we are now. The land of deceptions and illusions,” she replied.

“Well... I... it was snowing in my room,” Indigo realized how pathetic that sounded, and tried again. “I just sort of found my way here.” That seemed to serve as a good answer, and the other girl was satisfied.

“Who are you? I am Maple,” Maple smiled and shook her hair, which fell down her back like a sugary-sweet waterfall.

“I am Indigo. May I ask... um... what is going on?”

“Well... Don’t ask me. I only got here ten seconds ago.”

Indigo: Then how do you know all this?

Maple: You can pick up a lot in ten seconds.

The two girls stood in silence for a particularly long moment, before another voice broke the silence.

Cloudy Dweller: Hey! A fantasy world! Oh my gosh I have got to tell Rose bud! I can’t believe this is real!!!

Maple and Indigo: um...

Cloudy Dweller continued to fangirl about Decepmyth and Rose bud and Percy Jackson for the next minute or so, before all three girls heard more shuffling in the snow. They each gasped as a cloaked form made its way towards them. It was impossible to tell what was under the cloak, as the hood was pulled very low.

“I am A Messenger!” It was not loud or booming like the three girls had expected, instead it was more on the squeakier side, and definitely a man or boy’s voice. Finally, Maple broke the silence.

Maple: A messenger from whom?

A Messenger: No one. My name is literally “A Messenger.”

Cloudy Dweller: Ooookay.

A Messenger: I am here to retrieve Indigo and take her to The Illusionist.

As soon as A Messenger announced this everyone shivered, but not from cold or fear. It was from the thrill of the name “The Illusionist.”

Indigo: Wait, why me?

Cloudy Dweller: Who’s The Illusionist?

Maple: Can I come too?

A Messenger: Let me sort this out.

The hood of his cloak cocks to the side and he appears to be thinking long and hard. The three girls were now getting the idea that he wasn’t the brightest.

A Messenger: I was on strict orders to bring only Indigo. The Illusionist has reason to believe that she is the rightful heir of Decepmyth.

Indigo looked stunned, Cloudy and Maple looked jealous. All of their brains were working, trying to answer all the questions that had built up.

Indigo: Sir, could you possible tell me what is going on?

A Messenger rummaged in his cloak, and produced a scroll, which he handed to Indigo. This is what she read:

A Brief History of Decepmyth

Many years ago, Decepmyth was created by the Queen Magenta Pruys, who created it to be a world of deceptions, illusions and evil. Her plan went wrong, however, and though Decepmyth became a land of deceptions and illusions, its intentions were never evil. Decepmyth eventually overthrew Queen Magenta with its magical powers, and ruled itself. It is rumored that she left The Key to Decepmyth hidden somewhere in her castle, and this key had all of her evil powers. The Illusionist took over the land, calling herself the guardian of the veil between illusions and realism. She saw to it that Decepmyth was used for its true purpose: to open the gateways of talented youth’s minds, and pour its magic, its words, inside. There is an heir to Decepmyth, however, who will become the rightful queen and work with The Illusionist and Decepmyth’s words. No one knows who this heir may be, and the Illusionist has been searching for decades.

The rest of the scroll was extremely boring, so Indigo read only the first paragraph and handed it back to A Messenger. I could be the heir to Decepmyth! She thought excitedly.

Never mind and scrap everything– a quote by The Man of a Thousand words, a unique creature here in Decepmyth.

I have been pouring words into young minds, all the while looking for someone who might me the heir of Decepmyth. My Messenger has been confusing me, and I am taking this into my own hands, thus the qoute above. We will begin on June 30, so remember to look for the first day. This is an introduction for you to learn a bit about Decepmyth, and I hope you have enjoyed it. The days will not be written this way. Please continue to use the words of Decepmyth.

(Suddenly there is a loud crashing noise from the helipad, which just popped into existence!)

*pant pant* Okay...everybody!...I'm...here!...Just...wait a sec...while I...catch...my breath... That's better. I think...I think I can breathe now. Yes, I know my arrival is completely and totally unexpected, and yes, I know I just jumped for my life out of a crashing and burning Aethersprite-class starfighter, but really, I'm all right. Seriously. No, I don't need healing herbs, or an oxygen mask, or a demon-purging ceremony, or a medical droid, but thanks anyway. I just jumped two galaxies in a ship whose hyperdrive ring quit somewhere around an obscure patch of space known as Reality. Pretty impressive piloting, right? *awkward silence* ...Right? No? Ah well. I'm not used to this realm either. And thank you to whoever just called me an insane geek who won't shut up, because that is exactly what I am.
