Yet another Harry

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Yet another Harry

Yet another Harry Potter RP!

I'm sorry, I know there are millions of RPs, I know there are tons of Harry Potter RPs- but I had this idea, and I really want to put it out there...

A Harry Potter RP.... while Harry's at school!

I know. Brilliant, right?

I just thought, well, we have lots of futuristic RPs, a Marauders RP.... so, maybe we could write an RP about Harry through a normal student at Hogwart's eyes!

Well? What do you think?

It can be any year- maybe we can vote on that- and you should already know all the professors, so...

Here's the sheet!

~Mei and Lei~
Lei:
Oh my gosh. I'm so scared! It's the first DA meeting. But the thing is: Mei still isn't speaking to me. How do I do it? Should I skip? What should I do? I can't walk in there alone and announce I'm there! My heart leaps into my throat just thinking about it.
I'm at the Ravenclaw common room and I'm standing at the entrance.
I take a deep breath. There's a chance she'll help me.
Then I march off to my doom.
Mei:
I rush off to where the Room of Requirement is. Draco's been trying to stop me, with bribes and such, but I do my own thing. Tyler's already left for the Room, but Draco only knows about me. I do know that next time, he'll use force.
As I arrive at the corridor, I see Lei standing in front of the Room. She is crying. No, she isn't. But her face is in her hands.
I sigh. I'll help her for now, but she's going to have to learn.
Lei:
I can't do it. I know I can't.
I'm right in front of the entrance to the Room of Requirement and I can't do it.               Wait-- is that Mei?
My hopes rise like a helium balloon, then plummet back down again.
She isn't speaking to me. She won't help. Still, I turn around.
"Mei! Please..." I beg.
She sighs.
"Alright Lei. I'll help you..."
"YES!" I scream. My life is saved! "Thank you so--"
"...For now." She finishes.
I stare at her. But then again, it's better than nothing.
"Mei." I announce. " You are the best."
Mei:
Okay. I've got Lei with me. Now it's time for me to lead her. Together, we walk into the Room of Requirement.
"Hi Tyler," I say. I squeeze Lei's hand. With me, she's going to be a pro at this.

Okay, I'm REALLY sorry I haven't posted, and this RP is fading a little bit, but I will post soon. It's just that my charrie isn't in DA. So I was wondering if we might schedule a point or something when we write about when Umbridge discovers DA. I'd post about it, but I know there's more to write about meetings and such. So I'll try to post, just wondering if anyone has any ideas for what to do to sort of continue things plot wise. Sorry, everyone!

Could you be a little clearer, Sydney?

Well, I just know writing about meetings for as long as the meetings went on might get a bit tiresome (it works way better as a movie montage :-) ), but I also know that we're not done with DA yet. I'm just having a bit of trouble writing because my charrie isn't in DA. It's no big deal, just wondering how much people want to post and how much will be "time passed" and that sort of thing. Sorry, that wasn't very clear of me.

We could make something else happen that didn't happen in the books, like a fight or something, so it would be less boring.

P.S. I don't think St. Owl is still posting on this one.

P.P.S I got almost a swear word for a CAPTCHCA. Admin, who chooses the CAPTCHCAs?

I have no idea. It may just be a random, automated system. I don't think it would be a person who does it.

~Lei~
During the meeting, I stay with Mei the whole time. We keep to the back.
"Ready Lei?" Mei raises her wand. "Expelliarmus!" My wand flies out of my hand and bonks a fifth year in the head. I think his name is Nevin Longbottus, or something like that. I back away, embarrassed.
"Oh, sorry Neville! That's your name, right?"
"Yeah." He goes back to dueling with- Is that Harry Potter?
Oh no. I can't get near him again, not after the  embarrassing Mei-gets-mad-at-me incident.
"Mei." I try to signal to her with my eyes what l'm trying to say. It doesn't work.
"每啊,哪个哈利泼特在这粒,” I try in Chinese, praying Cho doesn't hear, since she can understand us. Mei, um, Harry Potter is here.
"Oh, okay." She senses my distress. "Let's move."
Cho raises her eyebrows at me. I turn red and look away.
We duel for the rest of the time. It's quite fun. Mei laughs when she's Disarmed by me.
Maybe people aren't as bad as I thought. Maybe, with Mei's help, I can get over my fear of people. As I walk back to Ravenclaw Tower, my heart is filled with hope.

I'm walking to lunch with Mei when we pass Draco Malfoy and Professor Umbridge.
"...will make a group that... power... Squad." I catch only a few words. As we pass, they break off.
Umbridge walks away, with a look on her face that clearly spells out, "Another time, Draco."
"Ming, why don't you hang out with your Housemates?" Draco Malfoy turns to us and sneers at Mei.
"Because Lei is my best friend." She looks at him coldly. They clearly dislike each other. They glare at each other for a long time.
He gets bored glaring at her. "You Ravenclaw. Speak up." He points to me. He looks at me.
He points to me! Oh, why me? I can't speak! I wish I could Apparate so I could escape from here. I have that feeling where I wish I was anywhere but there, that if I could just disappear, or teleport, or- I don't know. What I do know is that the hallway feels like a death trap, barbed with spikes and wires.
"Lei doesn't have to speak if she doesn't want to." Mei takes my hand. A warm sensation spreads over me. If I didn't have a supportive friend like Mei, I don't think I could survive.
Draco Malfoy continues to look at me. I hate being looked at! To me, being looked at feels like the same embarrassment as running around Hogwarts im Umbridge's clothes waving your arms and screaming, "I'M A BUNNY!" at the top of your lungs.
"Draco Malfoy, go away." Mei's hands are planted firmly on her hips.
As he walks away, I get a strange feeling. I've never had that feeling before.I touch my face. It feels warm.
I have a crush on Draco Malfoy.

@ Admin, how come whenever I do tabs( ten spaces ) or I press enter twice, it doesn't show up?

Like this. I skipped a line, but when it's posted it will be right underneath my first line.

It's not a function Admins control. I think the format happens automatically, but I'm really not sure. If people submit comments with HUGE spaces, I do sometimes close up some of them. It just seems wasteful to take up so much space with nothing, plus people may not even see whatever text comes after a huge space.

I hope it's okay that I do this, I was planning it before the crush thing, but now it'll heighten the drama even more.
~Violet~
I'm walking to Charms when I see Draco Malfoy having a conversation with Professor Umbridge. Isn't one of them plotting annoying enough? I slow, curious, but not wanting to be late.
"-Squad." Draco finishes his conversation, quickly turning to catch Lei and Mei. They go through what I assume is a typical conversation with Draco, which involves a lot of superiority and sneering. I see Lei's blush as Draco leaves, though this time I can't tell exactly why it's there. Then, Draco pauses, glancing over his shoulder at the pair. He reaches into his satchel, casually pulling out his wand. Then, he continues his conversation with his henchmen (it's what they are) like he'd never done anything, dropping his wand hand to his side.
If anyone else had done it, I wouldn't even have noticed, but I get the feeling Draco intends trouble.
And the trouble manifests itself in the form of a trip-jinx hitting Mei. Her right foot catches on nothing and she tumbles to the ground, books spilling. Lei quickly kneels to help her. I start forward, but Mei is already getting up. The blush spreading up her face would be more commonly seen on Lei. She glances at the floor behind her, then at her feet, then at Malfoy snickering with his fellow snobs, wand in hand. The blush grows redder, now a flush of anger. "That was low, Malfoy," she says.
Malfoy raises his eyebrows, an expression of false confusion and true condescension. "What was, Mei? You tripped, is all."
"I saw you hex her," I said, before I knew what I was doing. My face reddened, but I didn't take it back.
"Really?" he said, the superiority in his voice almost tangible. "I believe it's against Rule- what number is it, Crabbe?"
Crabbe looked confused. Malfoy moved on.
"Regardless, I'm pretty sure it's against the rule to accuse a member of the newly formed Inquisitorial Squad."
"I'm pretty sure it's against the rules to hex someone in the hallway," Mei says scathingly.
"What's the Inquisitorial Squad?" I ask, hoping Malfoy would choose to smugly display his knowledge rather than allow the tension to escalate.
"The Inquisitorial Squad is an elite group of students handpicked by Professor Umbridge to investigate possible infractions of the rules. And I'm the head member, so maybe you should remember who you're talking to."
Sorry, it's a bit inconclusive, I wanted to give your charries room to react how you think they would, or have them not really react at all. I didn't want to make Mei curse him back or something if that isn't what you'd want. But I think some sort of official feud between Malfoy and Mei creates suitable conflict, especially with Lei's newfound crush.

Draco Malfoy is so ANNOYING! Stupid Umbridge, too. Almost shaking with anger, I reach for my wand. But just then, Professor Flitwick walks by.
I look at Lei. Lei freezes at the sight of the teacher. She always does.
"Lei. It's fine," I reassure her. Not, I think to myself.
I turn to the Ravenclaw girl after a glare at Draco. She is still looking at Draco. Then I turn back to Draco Malfoy.
"I don't care if Umbridge gives you a hundred Galleons. You are the most despicable piece of dirt-"
"Who's talking? You're not even pureblood!"
"-And I hope you enjoy the gift."
"I hope you-Wait, what?"
With a smile, I reach into my bag and throw the dragon dung sample I got as fertilizer from Herbology straight at his head. He ducks, but it goes Splat! in his hair. While ducking, his books and a mirror spill out of his bag. Almost giggling, I rush over and shove it in his face, before using it to smudge the dragon in his hair over his face. Maybe I also need a lesson in Hufflepuff 101, or at least niceness class. Either way, I love revenge and balance too much. That may be the reason why I like Arithmancy.
Both Lei and the other Ravenclaw look shocked. I'll eat an extra helping of vegetables, I think to myself. To make up for that. My braids swing around and hit him in the face as I dash back to Lei. Draco, fuming and livid, raises his wand.
"Stop!" the Ravenclaw shouts, since it's obviously not Lei.
But I don't want to stop. I want to lift my wand. I want to hex that little piece of garden gnome toenails! Besides, Slytherin's going to lose points either way, so why not?
But as if on cue, Professor McGonagall strides in. I reluctantly lower my wand.
"Any trouble, Mr. Malfoy? Miss Ming?" She look down at both of us.
Lei and the Ravenclaw both step back.
"Nope. None." He, too, seems a little sad to miss a fight.
McGonagall seems a little annoyed, maybe even exasperated. Thankfully, she doesn't reprimand us.
"Well, Mr. Malfoy, I need to talk to you about your Transfiguration project. It seems that Mr. Crabbe..."
As they walk away, Lei sighs in relief. I sigh, too. Even the Slytherins are afraid of McGonagall.
I turn to the Ravenclaw.
"Sorry about that." I smile a bit. "My name is Mei Ming. M-E-I. Not M-A-Y. What's yours?"
Surprised, she answers.
"Violet Trinnon."
"Nice to meet you, Violet. This is Lei. L-E-I. Lei Lan." I gesture towards Lei.
"Hello, Lei." Violet clearly is a polite girl.
Lei mumbles something unintelligible before turning away, face red.
"Oh, come on, Lei. Be polite. This girl is."
She shakes her head and walks away.
"She's the shyest of the shy," I explain to Violet. "I'm sorry about that, too."
-----------------
Another example of the emotional problem Mei shares with Cho, and when the -ei cousins finally meet Violet. Also inconclusive, but I want you to have a say in what Violet says.

~Mei~
At Charms class, which Slytherin has with Ravenclaw (Yay!) we are practicing Accio, even though we learn that spell in the fourth year. Our Charms class is ahead.
"Accio!" I confidently point my wand at a fat pink cushion and it eagerly zooms towards me. However, it hits me in the head.
"Oh well. It was still good." I shrug.
Lei points her wand, too. The pillow doesn't fly as enthusiastically towards her, because she doesn't say spells out loud. She's too shy, so she taught herself nonverbal spells. Nevertheless, it's impressive, because we learn nonverbal spells in the sixth year and she's only in the third.
"Did you hear about what Mei did to Draco Malfoy?" From all the way across the room, I can hear some students talking. Even though I know I shouldn't, I smirk in satisfaction.
"Remember last year, when Harry Potter used this spell during the Triwizard Tournament?" I ask Lei.
A cushion zooms past my head. I ignore it.
"Yes." Lei puts her pillow down. "Weren't you finishing your Defense Against the Dark Arts essay, though?"
"Yeah, I came to see the end of it. Accio!"
At my spell, a bolster zips through the air towards me.
"When do you think Umbridge will leave?"
I ask Lei, catching the long, round pillow.
"I hope soon. She's really mean, even though she doesn't make us do spells."
I sigh. "Lei, saying things out loud in front of other people is not that scary."
Lei doesn't respond.
"Come on, Lei." I try not to get impatient.
"Just because something is easy for you doesn't mean it's easy for everyone." She whispers.
"Lei, I'm going to help you, you know that, right?"
Her eyes are staring off into space as she answers. "I guess."
We are both silent for a few minutes, watching the cushions swirl around us and listening to the chatter of the students talking as they Summon pillows.
"Mei, tell me again about what you want to do when you grow up." Lei breaks the silence, which she would never dare to do with anyone else. I don't realize until later, but she also changes the subject.
"Oh, Lei." I try and fail not to smile. "I told you a million times." Even though I say that, I can't resist. I'm in Slytherin, so I am passionate about my goals. I've got my future all planned out.
"First thing I'm going to do is work for the Weasleys, depending on whether or not they do their business and whether or not they let me. They probably won't, so Plan B is to become an engineer, work with the Muggles. The goal behind that is to get as much experience with how magic and other things work.
After I've learned enough, I'll start developing things on the side. Wizards are in real need of a faster way of communication than owls. Muggles have cell phones, for goodness' sake. Wizards are supposed to be more advanced!"
Lei nods along, looking interested, even though she's heard this a million times.
"I'll start a company. A wizard- a wizard tech company." I don't need a mirror to see that my eyes are shining and my face has lit up at the thought. "I'll focus on things we actually need. The wizard version of a cell phone. It's got to be better, though. And it could maybe double as something else. Maybe a bouncy ball that you can open? And then speak into it? Wizards don't get signal from towers like Muggles do. I'm going to have to figure out a way to transport the sound. I'll have to work for a Muggle tech company to learn exactly how it works. I'll work really hard. I just know. I'll make the Wizarding world a much better place!" I am almost breathless now, I'm talking so fast.
"I'll also make vehicles. Brooms are a dangerous way to travel, and cars are expensive and we have to take them from Muggles. There are so many possibilities!"
I hope Lei can hear the passion and delight in my voice.
-------------
I was kind of bored, so I went more into depth about why exactly Mei was in Slytherin. In the process, I tried to show the flaws of the Wizarding world.

I felt sorry for you two and had to post, although I can't guarantee that I will continue to post.

~Taika~

The moonlight shines bright as I noiselessly walk into the Forbidden Forest. Once I reach the cover of the trees, I shift into a tiger. I feel at ease in the dark, mysterious wood, for I've been visiting it nearly every night since my first year at Hogwarts. But this time, rather than just for leisure, I'm in the Forest for a reason. A shadowy entity promised to meet me at its core, offering a great reward for a task. I eagerly awaited the night, wondering what the task is and how I must perform it. Now, as I pad soundlessly over the undergrowth, not a twig snapping under my paws, I head to the core. Little did  I know that my task could be my demise. . . .
