Chatterbox: Inkwell

The Will of the Wisps
prologue
Miscellaneous shodows were cast about the room. A woman gripped her young child's hand in fear. "Momma," the child asked, "what is wrong?" The mother turned her head and looked down at the innocent and worried little face. "It's alright Aphalla," she said. She murmured, " I won't let them take us away."
The woman pulled a hood over her head and grabbed Aphalla's hand. He looked up at his mother. She gazed down at him. His crystal blue eyes sparkled in the candlelight. " We must not waste time." Said the mother, as she gripped her child's hand and blew out the lights. They sprinted out of the house.
The only light in the dark streets were flickering lamps. The mother and the child's hot breath could be seen in the cold night. Heavy footsteps were heard behind Aphalla and his mother. They took a sharp turn into a dark alleyway. They hid in a corner. They seemed to be holding their breath as the footsteps came closer. Many dark shadows loomed over them. Aphalla took his mother's hand, shaking. The figures sharply grabbed Aphalla's mother by the waist, and next grabbed him. He began kicking and struggling. Then he felt a sharp, cold pinch on the back of his neck and his vision failed him.
Aphalla heard a scream and came back to himself. He was in an iron cage. He looked around and heard the scream once more. He looked up and saw his mother in chains. Her face had been cut many times and tears and blood streamed down her face.
They were on separate vehicles that spewed dark gas and began to vibrate vigorously. As they moved forward, the screams of Aphalla and is mother grew louder, trying to hear eachother over the roar of the machines:
"Aphalla!"
"Momma!"
"I'll come for you! I love you!"
'I love you.' those words Aphalla had heard all his life but this time he held those special words close to his heart. Aphalla heard yells in a foreign language, and watched as he moved farther and farther waway from his mother.
