Curse of Renovamen

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Curse of Renovamen

Curse of Renovamen V2
Yep, I'm bringing it because it died long ago because I didn't expain it was a rest floor and became stuck because I didn't know how to incorperate it and school wasn't helping. so I'm reiving this harder than a Meat Effigy from Don't Starve (Had I had my way I would have done that but I can't because RULES!)
An old man steps onto a crate in the town square and begins his preach.
Hear my warning and don't go to the Northern Lands.
For there lies the Tower of Renovamen
Tower of Renovamen is a very interesting one.
There are legends of great treasures and glory to those who make it to the top
Don't listen to such bribes!
For there you're soul will be anchored! Those who enter never leave!
To go through extreme pain and suffering, only to find out that not even death can save you from the misery.
To die, again and again. To feel every second of it. Only to wake up in the first room. Beasts with fangs and claws. Traps that melt off your flesh. The endless limbo of suffering.
No glory or treasure is worth such agony!
The Curse of Renovamen is nothing to mess with.
Only those who make it to the top can be free of the curse. And make off with the treasures that lie within!
Or so legend says....
You listen to the Old Man but you brunsh these off as rambling. A tower that prevents death. Please. You're too old for such fairy tales. But you have notice that those who claim they'll go never come back. And promise of treasure? You decide to not heed the warnings.
Now rules
RULE NUMBER ONE: DEATH IS NOT FINAL. You'll wake up in the first room, unless you have found an artifact that revives you.
1b because I'm not reordering the rules: Every four floors there will be a sub floor. this is where you buy stuff, rest, and chill with the passive inhabants of the Tower.
2, no Opness, it's unlikely that you'll be able to make it to the top unscathed.
3, be realistic, no one can one punch a beast to oblivion.
4, shipping is fine but don't overdo it.
5, jerkness is allowed but if you die, you "friends" will most likely raid your corpse than carry you with hopes of revival.
6, You don't have to be human, I'll allow all walks of life. You could even be a beast with hopes of seeing the outside world for the first time or plan the demise of those pesky intruders.
7,  Skills,  you can make them up but they can't be overpowered. There more powerful the move,  the more energy it'll sap from you. You can gain skills by reading Skill Books but if you already have max skills. You need to disown one to gain another.
8, perks,  these are you natural born abilities. Unlike skills,  once you decide them,  you are stuck with them. You can have up to 3 perks but one of them must be bad.
9. Enemies might be closer than you think
10. Have fun.
11. Please so this won't sink. If you see that this has no comments. just bookmark it. I don't want this to sink to the bottom and never find it again. To top a thread you wait till the first comment is posted then comment so you don't waste comments.

Okay! :) Hyra's scales are usually a lustrous black, but she can make them pure, shining white. Her skills are countering any attack, projectile, magic (to some degree), or blade-on-blade, martial arts, trapping, and camouflage.

Stillo~

I since deja vu...

Arriving at the Tower felt familiar. The Old Man, the Book falling,  Et Itero... I can't shake this.

I feel I've been here already....

No matter, I have to stay focused.

I open the Tower doors and enter.

"Well Thisss isss new..."

The room feels different. It feels bigger. It's a huge room with an alter in the center. I was expecting a bed and chest...

Going up to the Alter, I examine it. It's a bowl fused to the podium. Along with a knife chained to it. On the alter it reads.

"To press forward, slice thy hand.

To accept the challange, to make a stand.

If one finds thier untimely death,

May the Reaper see one not take their final breath.

Thy won't be done. Thy will stand tall,

Till thy reach the end and make the final fall.

If thy pours thy blood, thy may climb.

But thy will stay till the end of time.

This is thy last chance turn back. To leave the curse.

Or endless death will come. There won't be the last verse."

There is only one door. The door to leave. There is no other.

I knew what I was getting into. I won't take the coward's path.

I take the knife and slice my palm. Black blood pours out.

I still never got used to that. I used to have red till I took my blessing.

My palm stings as the blood falls into the bowl. It ignites into flame of purple. And the bowl is empty.

The exit is closed behind stone walls and a new door is revealed.

I enter with North in my hand.

Though I wish I had my spear....

Oh I love it! Especially the bit about there being no end, no final verse. I shall post soon!

(Also it's cool how you made being trapped in the Tower more of a magical ritual binding your spirit to the Tower rather than just not dying when you're in it! It's cool and more worldbuilding!)

Is it okay if Damian starts on Level Two? Just because he is a pretty strong monster, so I think it might make sense if he did.

Darn, I just don't know where to start......

Damian~

He shouldered his small knapsack over his shoulder, and inhaled slowly. Behind that door was the legendary Tower of Renovamen. Not the literal Haven he had been living in for so long, but the real thing, the maze of traps and tricks and challenges. Challenges. His jaw hardened, and he pushed against the solid, blackened with age willow wood door.

Then he remembered it was a pull door and quickly pulled it open normally. It revealed a bare stone passage, bare, that is, except for torches mounted onto the wall every six feet, glowing an unearthly green. The stone was rough and obviously had been stacked together hapazardly. Several stones jutted out of the wall or to the side strangely. Hmmm. That's pretty obvious..... but then again, this is the second level..... should I examine the fire? It's not likely to be a trap, but then again, this IS the infamous Tower.... Thoughts swirled through his head for approximately three moments, in which ten different approaches to the trap had been suggested. He shrugged, stepped quickly into the hallway, closing the door gently behind him, and quickly crouched onto all fours. If this was an infamous arrow hallway, that might explain the strangely jutting out stones, displaced by the holes which the arrows must come out of.... He decided to play it safe and crawl through the passageway. Soon arrows were whiffling through the air above him.

Hm. There are bound to be arrows lower down to get anyone like me trying to be smart and just crawling along the bottom floor too..... but that depends on wether this is a level of strategy or brute force.

He forced himself to slow down and stop. He sat slowly up, making sure to keep his paws on only two specific stones and not move them. There might be a puzzle to..... wait.

He smirked. Was it really that easy? Really? He reached for his sword, and slowly slid it from the scabbard. Carefully, he reached out with it, and making sure that his hand was not where an arrow might be spat out where the stone was, he applied pressure down on the stone with the sword.

~~~~~~~
I hope that wasn't too easy for the beginning of the second level! (Although seriously people, if you have a sword or a staff, why waste rocks when you can just press down on the stone right in front of you to check wether it'll trigger anything? I mean, honestly people) Sorry, it's getting late, so time to sign off! I was thinking perhaps if you stood on one stone, it might trigger an arrow not whiffling right where the aforementioned pressured stone is, but somewhere else..? To pick off people in groups? But maybe that would be for a different level requiring more than one person.....
Floors 1-3 are relatively easy, but spikes up every four levels. It tones down a bit at the next three and it spikes up again. I wasn't planning on a subfloor between 2 and 3 but ok.
Stillo~
The Tower really likes their traps don't they?
When I stepped into the doorway, I was greeted to a few simple monsters, a few bloodthirsty bats, some spiders half my size, and... what looks like a green sack of potatos with little bubs n the top? It stays stationary till I get close. in which it hops into the air over my head and hovers a little by spinning it's bubs. these are simple critters that are just an annoyance.
The traps are another story...
Tripwires everywhere, falling pits, dropping blades.
the layout is simple and the last room had a staircase. No monsters, no traps, nothing.
Being extremely cautious, I go up the stairs. til I hear a shink.
Ahead I see a... lion goat wolf thing? What in the three realms of Vitue is that? He sticks his sword in the stone. arrows wissing above him. When.
*SHUNK*
I get skewered by spears. His face looks in horror as he sees what he has done.
I look at him as blood trikles out my mouth.
"Pull... these...out...and pour me... my black potion... please.....HACK!" I cough, life fading.
Damian~
The strange yellow lizard-thing (hey, you did call me a goat! XD) was in just the right position to be skweard in the neck by what looked like a poisonous arrow. That is likely my fault. "Ack...." Black blood trickled out of his mouth like tar. He stumbled and leaned against the wall. "Pull... these... out.... and...pour me.... black potion...." Damien quickly step over the tile that had triggered the arrows and reached for the leather satchel on the lizard's belt. It held what lookedike a black liquid, sloshing slightly out of the bottle as Damian pulled the cork out of it. It had an inky consistency, and some of it spilled onto the tiles, staining the rock. He idn't have a cup so he said; "Uh, can you simply drink it now?" And uncermenoniously shoved it in the lizard's face. It quickly took it and swallowed some of the potion.
Immediately it took affect and the lizard stood up straighter He quickly pulled out the arrows, inky blood splattering onto the rock like tar. "Thanks." Damian nodded quietly and stepped back to the safe tile to retrieve his sword. "So.... if you were starting at the bottom, then....." Damian sighed, and started pading back the way he had ome, taking care to step only on the safe tiles. "I suppose I must have been going the wrong way....." He reached the door he had just come out of and turned back, nodding at the lizard man to follow. "I'm Damian. You can just follow where I stepped to stay safe. Or not, if you like that." He said, shrugging. The lizard man nodded his thanks, and quickly stepped on the exact tiles that Damian had, shortly arriving at the door. "My name is Stillo." He said, a slight slithery accent to his words. Damian nodded and opened the door, pushing gently inwards. The black blood was certainly intruguing, but for all he knew, this was Stillo's species' natural blood colour.
The door opened into a large room, almost as large as a town square. At least, that's what Damian had heard some of the elders say, and was inclined to believe it. Stalls and houses (There wasn't much of a difference) lined the walls, with tired-looking merchants leaning over their tables. There were plenty of provisions, healing potions, and random kids running about, of all races and species. "DAMIAN! IS THE TOWER REALLY THAT SHORT?! HOW ARE YOU BACK ALREEEAAAADY?!" A loud human kid shouted to Damian, whilst running at top speed from another young kid (A satyre-or is it faun? They're so particular abot what you call them....) with a hungry look in his eye wielding a large stick. Damian shifted uncomfortably as he walked through the town-room. "Um, no, Silas. I went the wrong way.... that leads to the bottom of the Tower." The kid stopped mid-run over the rough-hewn tile floor and the satyre-faun skidded to a stop just in time, literal sparks rising from his hooves. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU-" Silas fell over laughing, pounding the ground with his fist. Stillo raised an eyebrow and muttered "I never knew people actually did that, always thought that was in books..." Damian shrugged uncomfortably. A few of the merchants smiled at him. He was supposed to be smart, after all. He strided past Silas and the amused-looking satyre in the bright blue shirt, quickly reaching the other door. Torches and bright blue globes lighted the inside of the town, until it was the same light level of light as day. The dark stones reflected the light. damian wasn't quite sure where all the food and potions came from, but the town was always well-stocked. Stillo walked over to one of the stalls and started to barter over a potion of some sort. damian patiently waited for him at the door while trying to ignore the snickers of several other monsters around him.
"You were so excited to leave us you just couldn't wait to think it out, did you?" Damian's ear twitched slightly. The large human who had said it poked Damian teasingly. The human's beard was bushy an ill-combed. He had a slight stoop, but his stature was still relatively tall. His head came to Damian's chin. "Yes, Conrad, I just couldn't wait to leave you to be endessly tortured by the Tower's deathly traps." Damian said tiredly. He was tire of everything and everyone here. He just wanted to leave. Conrad's long and loud laughter filled the town. Damian sighed. He never really understood why everything he said to Conrad was somehow funny. It was like he was a walking joke to Conrad. He just wanted a little respect, and somehow that was just so hard for everyone he had lived with. Other people's jabs hurt, but you can't show that. Otherwise you're making such a big deal about having feelings. Logic just didn't work for other people for some reason. He was tired of being a joke that everyone else somehow got immediately while he was left standing in the dust wonering what everyone else was laughing about. He hated that, hated feeling pathetic. Just because you were made from obsession didn't mean you were -just- UGH. Why did everyone else have such dirty minds?! It's just so -
He took a deep breath, and closed his eyes. He couldn't even get respect from little kids. Just calm down, and stop being such a wimp. Deal with other people for two seconds and suddenly you're all angry. Just do some math and maybe that'll be better. He id some sums in his head and breathed out slowly, feeling a bit calmer. He opened his eyes and saw Conrad smiling at him. "What?" He said politely and with just a tad of irritation. People smiling at him mae him feel like someone had just pantsed him and everyone else saw it but him. "Nothing. Just figuring out which direction to walk after you've opened the door?" Conrad's laughter pealed ver him. It wasn't even a good barb. Damian could think of ten much better ways of saying that backhanded joke than Conrad had, and yet..... Conrad had always been the least serious villager and least likely to take Damian seriously. Just. Stay. Calm. 'Hey Damian. You went the wrong way the first time? That's fine, we all make mistakes." A villager remarked, as he passed Damian. Damian's crossed arms tightened slightly. He's not trying to be mean, just-"It's just that you make so many, Damian!" Conrad inturrupted. Damian snapped. In two seconds the door had slammed and left the town silent as the echoes of the hard willow wood slamming into the rock faded away.
......
A large crack spiraled through the solid, hard, willow wood where it had hit the wall.
~~~~~~

Sorry if that was long..... I wasn't quite sure how to write Stillo, so I'm sorry if my character took the limelight. Sorry! Just trying to establish what Damian doesn't like about the town.

It's okay, I enjoyed it

Stillo~

"I wasss the sssame way oncccce." I guess that the subfloor was his hometown. Though I would think they would treat him with respect. He's a foot taller than me! And I'm 5 foot 7! What the others say kindof clued in though that physical appearance isn't everything in their culture. Heck I wasn't expecting a town at all.

"Huh?" He looks at me, he's still upset.

"I made too many mistakesss too, got picked on for it. That and my cowardnessss."

"I don't need your pity." He seems to not like that comment.

"I'm sssaying I can relate. Espadachín."

"Huh?"

"Swordsman."

"What made you change then?" He looks curious.

I stop.

"A deal ssso I can get a Fortuno."

"A what?" I need to remember no everyome is Multilanguagual.

"A blessssing..." I show him my tattoo. "This is a mark of my patron. A mark of the Beatus Propugnat- SSSTOP!"  I grip his arm.

"Dude, what the-"

"Dark magic..."

"What in the-"

"Dark...M-m-magic.." I repeat. Getting hyper. "Sssomething's clossse and it reaksss of it...I need to...need to....KILL!" I run ahead... The monsters here are more clever. a bit stronger. I slay them as I go through as fast as I can. Till I reach a door... Three goblins guard it with their bows and spears.

Blood...I need blood.

I run in and grap one and throw it to the other two. I shot repeatedly.

I turn to the door. It reaks of it. The magic on the other side. I need to kill it.

I bang on the door. Pulling, pushing, shooting.

"Let me in, Let Me In, LET ME IN!!!"

"Stillo, are you ok?" I turn to Damian, he looks around and sees the bloodbath I caused.

"Nunca he sido mejor, amigo! I jussst need to find the caussse of thisss and KILL IT!" I continued to bang.

"Stillo, it's locked. We need to find a key."

"NO CERO EN LOS BLOQUEOS!"

He claps his hands.

"Look at yourself! You're going insane! And I don't even understand half of what you're saying!. Calm down! Breathe slowly. In and out."

*Inhale....exhale....*

"No puedo controlarlo....it jussst... Happensss when I'm near dark magic....the Ater draco blood getsss... Excccited...Fear, pain, darkness. It pleases it..."

Damian~

"Will you go crazy if you don't kill it soon? We need to think about this. Stay calm, figure it out. We don't know how strong it is..... wait, can you sense that? How strong it is?" Damian said quickly. "We don't want to rush into something we don't know how to fight."

Sorry, gotta get off now, but I do like to write! Sorry 'bout how short that was. Good grief, I first apologized about how long my post was. XD

Also I love the Spanish in Stillo. (It is spanish, right? I'm TERRIBLE iwht other languages. I'd love to learn French and Spanish, though.)

~Connol

I walk forward the tower reaching high into the sky. I take a deep breath and open the door. Inside is an altar with a bowl and a daggar. I walk toward it skeptical. It has some sort of poem on it. i take a deep breath and cut myself in the hand. Then the blood disappears and the exit does as well. But there is a new door. I walk through it and wait for the traps and monsters.

They don't wait. They come flying. I draw my sword.

I swipe at the couple of bats and spiders there are, sending them flying and hitting the wall dead. These levels can't be that easy so I prepare myself. It's now or never. Hopefully there isn't a full moon tonight...

Stillo~

"¿Crees que esto es una lucura? Thisss iss only etapa dos! It only getsss better from here, ¡humbre león cabra! Desafortunadamente," I say as I continued to break the door open. "Onccce etapa dos hitsss, only dolor, miedo y sufirmiento from othersss and mí mismo can get me ssstronger. It's pretty ssstrong, no voy a mentir, Pero soy más fuerte...." I begin to calm down. Still twichy "The ssstart up isss over... Get usssed to it, Thisss will happen a lot amigo. Letsss find the key and get this over with. I need to release this cursed energy."

"Are you sure you'll be alright?" Damian actually looks frightened. That sickenly please me. "I mean, you say that this could get worse as you scare and hurt others?"

"No peor," I smile, "Mejor, The Fortuno of the Ater Draco. The black dragon. Isss a wonderful thing, her blood flowsss through me as we ssspeak." I turn. "Encontrar la llave, beat the thing up, and a few minutesss after, the blood will go back to it'sss dormant ssstate. Weaker, but calmer."

"We need to prepare though. We need a plan!"

"Yo deparo, you puñalada. As we sssay in Dolado Colinas, 'No domestiques los mares, montarlo!' I will warn you, I may go to etapa tres, but then the fun truly begins ¡amigo!" I run off! to find it.

"Found it!"

"How in-"

"It was underneath the doormat." He points to a mat on the floor that says "go away."

I grumble "Poner la llave dentro."

Despite not understanding. He puts it in and turns it. The door opens by itself.

"Ready?"

"¡Listo!" I run up the stairs "¡Muéstrame de qué estás hecho!"

"Stillo! We need to stick togeth- and he's gone..."
