The War of

Chatterbox: Inkwell

The War of

The War of the Words!

Hello everyone and welcome to *dramatic music* the War of the Words!

*gasps*

Let me explain.

The War of the Worlds is a creative writing/poetry competition split into different rounds. Each round has a unique, creative theme.

ROUND ONE: Write a short story excluding one vowel (harder than it sounds).

ROUND TWO: Create as many sentences as possible using the amount of letters in each word as digits in Pi. (3.1415926 might be "May I have a whole container of coffee?")

ROUND THREE: Create an acrostic poem with each letter of the alphabet.

ROUND FOUR: Free writing (under 750 words)

QUARTER FINAL: Free poetry

SEMI FINAL: Free writing (under 750 words)

GRAND FINAL: YET TO BE REVEALED

In each of the first three rounds, only the top five contestants will receive points depending on the position they came. This is not essential in your survival in the competition, though it will be added to your total score if you make it into the Grand Final.

Anyway, in round four, the top 8 contestants move through to the Quarter Final. Please note that people who do not make it in will not have there scores announced because, lets face it, no-one wants to come last. If we have few entries, we may skip the quarter finals all together.

The top four entries will then go through the the Semi finals, and so on.

I will be the judge in this competition, though please note that this is just a bit of fun and should not start any arguments or conflicts.

Okay, we will begin on the 15th and I'll cover the rounds in more detail later on. Please sign up below and enjoy!

Here is my acrostic poem!

apple

blossoms

can you not smell them?

does their

enchantment

fail to reach your nose?

good

however smart you may be

i know that to you

juice is blood

kangaroos dying is happy

lemons are better than sugar

my brain cannot comprehend the

nonsense that you

often spout

please, then

question your integrity

right?

should you not be thinking

that right now

understand that you should be

valentines should never reach you

wonderous things should be meaningless

x-rays do not reveal your evilness

yet i know that you know

zombies will attack you someday for your crimes

Here's mine, based off of nothing at all! I have an extra line at the end to complete it, is that okay?

You are More to Me

“All the world will burn.”

“But… wouldn’t it have ended anyways?”

Could I have ruined your moment any more? Your face snaps up to look at me.

“Don’t test me.” (Ah, but it’s so fun.) (You keep going,

Even though you can read my thoughts.)

“Feast on this moment while you have it. Something this

Good must be savored.”

Here we sit, feet dangling down to the open nothing below.

I smile at you, and we lie on our backs, examining the stars, which look

Just like bits of flour spread across a midnight-blue counter. I’d be

Keen on having cookies now, the ones we used to bake. (The flour reminded me.)

Live like there’s no tomorrow.

Maybe there isn’t a tomorrow… you

Never do know until tomorrow is today.

Over the chorus of city sounds, I hear your heart

Pounding, in sync with the pattern of my breathing. (You never do anything

Quietly. Always passionate and noisy.)

“Rest now, dearest,” you whisper. I close my eyes. (I’ve noticed- the air is

Stiff. Full, yes, but stiff.)

Tonight will fade into tomorrow… if, of course, there is a tomorrow.

Until you lie down and close your eyes too, I will not fall asleep (you know that, too).

“Vie for someone worth fighting for.”

“Well… don’t I already have them?” (Watch now as you

X-ray me to see if I’m serious. And soon you see I am.) You smile.

“You are a wonderful child, filled with kindness and

Zeal.”

(The memory warms me, enough to lull me to sleep, breaking my own promise.)

Here's mine!

about lack of sleep

after hours you slump your shoulders and see the world before you

bend in odd ways, twisted by lack of sleep--falling falling falling into a

chasm that's never there (and you always hit the bed). but you can't sleep,

dancing lights flicker in the

empty air and you sit, staring at the clock that ticks away the minutes and you

feel slightly panicked for some reason.

gentle, gentle, close your eyes,

heavy eyelids, you know. but you don't want to go to sleep.

instead you watch each hour die--what were you doing tomorrow, anyway?

jagged edges of the floor warp in your vision--you

know. (you should just turn off the

light.) but

maelstrom dizziness pulls you down, down, down, and

nothing can help you focus.

open/close/open/close your eyes.

plunge, sink, you're losing yourself. can't stay awake, can't sleep, your own little

quandary--so exhausted, what's

real and what's not?

swim, swim, drown, and fall--

the world spins in circles and threatens to go black.

underneath your cold white lights,

vague shadows blur and sway.

when will you finally fall asleep? tomorrow? wait, it is--

x-ed out letters and ink on your hands--too late, too late, to try.

you know. (it was the

zenith of the night and you finally fell unconscious.)

Done! It's not great, but it's all I could come up with. I kind of cheated on X.

An escape

Breaking free

Could you make it?

Don’t forget

Everything you’re learned

Find yourself

Go, look

Help will come along the way

It will find you

Journey on,

Kill your doubts

Life is a winding road

Maybe you’ll find someone to walk it with you

Never alone

Often, I wonder

Pondering

Quietly, I think

Roads can cross

Sometimes they do

Take my hand, if you will

Understand we’re both walking different paths

Very far apart, but

Would you let me walk with you? E

Xplore, wander

You and I, our

Zeal filling the world

Sorry I haven't judged yet but we had a few last minute entries I have to take into consideration. Thank you so much for such a large amount of high quality entries!

One quick note, you can join anytime and the winner of the whole game isn't fully based on the first few rounds, anyone has a chance at this point.

Just a reminder, the points you accumalate in the first rounds are added to your final score if you make it into the finals, but I'll get more into that later.
