Trail to Eden.

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Trail to Eden.

Trail to Eden.

Hello lifeforms. And welcome to a post-apocalyptic RP!

Don't we already have a apocalyp-

That's a zombie one. I mean a nuclear one because Bethesda has lost my faith thanks to fallout 76 and The Outer Worlds by Obsidian has yet to be released so this is my way of coping till then!

*Ahem*

The year was 2577 when a new fuel sorce was discovered. Hydrozen. A powerful,  long-lasting, wasteless, compound that seems to be abundant. Due to fossil fuels running out and renewable energy not reaching the needs of the people. This resource was sought out for by the most powerful countries. Agreements couldn't be made on how to distribute between The United States, Great Britain, Russia, China, Afghanistan, and Japan and tension was on the rise. In 2682. World War IV, dubbed The Hydrozen War, began. With the USA, Japan, and Britain on one side. And Russia, China, and the Middle East on the other.

A stupid, pointless, war....

Hydrozen; what began as a hope for humanity soon became it's demise. As new Hydrozen technologies were made to make life easier at home. Weapons were made for the war. First the Hydrogen weaponry like the EM7 and the EAR-45 and the DRC .22 and with it the invention of the Infusers. A mix of Hydrozen and chemicals that add effects like fire or poison. Then came the Androids, what started as servents soon became war machines. The US and Japan invented the Vessel Assault Scout, or V.A.S. For short. Machines e break the laws of robotics to kill enemies. Designs were stolen and restolen as more deadly troops were trained and built. Power Armor, Hydrozen Katanas, the war went on and on. The First Hydrozen nuke, called the Joy-Killer, was built and tested in 2723.

All heck broke loose.

Increased AI, Deadlier weapons, more powerful bombs, underground city bunkers built.

The war went on without end.

In 2745 at the peak of the war. All the Nukes went off at once.

No one knows who launched the first one. But it didn't matter, Billions died, cities destroyed. Death everywhere.

But life remained.

Those who were in the bunkers won't come out til another 300 years. Any creatures who survived the blasts outside were either killed due to the engineered unstable Hydrozen or were mutated.

The wastelands became a deadly place. The creatures outside either became savage beasts, or intelligent humaniods that formed tribes and made due with humanity's leftover technology and weapons. V.A.S.'s and other androids were rebooted, some are still dormant. And in 3026, the bunkers opened and the last humans stepped foot into this new world.

a chaotic, deadly, unforgiving world.

But legends says somewhere in western Canada, lies Eden. A land untouched by the bombs and war. Where no beasts are there to hunt you and plenty of food and clean water.

You are one of those who believe.

This is your story.

Ok, how was that? Good?

The point of this rp is simple, find Eden. Should be easy in this blood thirsty world.

Your character will start in the eastern USA.

Some rules.

any kind of character is allowed. Yes that includes plant based mutants and any kind of  Android, you don't have to be a V.A.S.

androids can NOT get mutations, they are robots and don't have organic cells

If you choose for your ORGANIC character to have/develop a mutation, it has to be scientificly explainable. NO magic! If your character can summon fire in their plams, they must have glands in their hands or something for example.

Androids are fueled by Hydrozen, they don't need food or water but to save energy can enter "sleep" mode, they are also more resistant to unstable Hydrozen but it can fry their circuits.

if you are human, you are either leaving your bunker for the first time or your bunker has already opened a while ago and are living in a settlement.

Only weapons with live ammo can have infuser modules to insert Infusers. Melee Weapons that aren't made of energy can also use infusers.

The year is 3067.

The currency is soda tabs

So Ki's only been in this settlement for about a day. Just thought I'd point that out since you guys were making it sound like he'd lived there for a while.

Ki~

"Wreaks used to be a naval base, I think. At least that's what I've heard around here. I'm not really sure what that means. But hey, it sounds cool, right?"

"H-have you lived here long?" the V.A.S asks, although he's been paying more attention to the surroundings than to what I've been saying on this so-called 'tour'. It's true, Wreaks is one of the weirder places I've been to, but this android is acting like he's never seen a settlement before. And the amalgamation doesn't look much more comfortable.

"Oh, no, I've only been in this settlement about a day." I answer.

Sel appears vaguely amused. "Hm. You m-must get around then."

"I suppose. I really just like meeting new people. And my old place ran fresh out of people, so that's kind of been my only option recently. But Wreaks, now here's a place with a kind of people I'm very interested in."

"And what kind of people m-might that be...?" Sel's voice trails off as his stride leaves his gaze behind, looking over his shoulder at an admittedly distracting fish-headed individual for about ten seconds.

"People like you, Sel! Robots!"

"Why would you be interested in me?" Sel asks heedfully, distrust suddenly rampant in his cybernetic eyes.

Ignoring his strange reaction, I give Sel a grin as wide as I can manage. "You're a V.A.S! That means you're probably pretty good at navigation, right? So was thinking... maybe we could team up? I'm trying to find a place called Eden."

At the mention of Eden, Sel stops in his tracks, his gaze shifting quickly toward me with startling intensity. Before he can say anything, however, some guy in a hazmat suit shoots a net at us and starts yelling about capturing the amalgamation. Gamma- I think that's what she wanted me to call her- assumes an intimidating stance that I would want to stay far away from if I hadn't recently become her acquaintance. And if wolves were interested in eating celery.

A projectile bounces off of Sel, and I spring upwards about ten feet onto the nearest rooftop. As Gamma snarls, she and the man circling one another, Sel looks up at me. "Are you d-ditching us?"

I scratch my head. "Huh? No way! I just wanted a better vantage point. Did you think I was gonna pass up the chance to see a real Vessel Assault Scout in action? come on, 531, show that guy who's boss!"

Oh, ok sorry bout that JBE! I'll try to get it correct this time.

Carson~

While the sudden events occurred, I stumbled back into the crowd of onlookers. A quick shock travelled through my body. I stared wildly at my hands. They were quickly crystallizing.

"Hey Alec! Its happening - help me!"

My breathing was sharp and flustered. Alec stayed by my side while the rest of the crowd quickly ran for cover. He pulled me away from the unfolding showdown. The wolf was making a sinister hiss sound and the dump was in a mad rush.

"I'm here, I'm here!" Alec said while desperately clutching my shoulders. "Hey! Don't lose me. It's alright, Carson. Hear me. I know you can hear me!"

My body was almost covered in ice, except my face. I begun to lose awareness of the surroundings. Almost... almost. No. Auddenly my breathing was even again. I regained my consciousness, and slowly the sounds and shouts had come back. The ice melted away. Suddenly I was fully aware and what came next was quite spectacular.

~~~
Ugh I know this is really bad but I mean it is 12 so.. Ok, so what I'm thinking is that Sel will do his cool little power things and ppl will be like "woah" and then somehow the team (so far Ki, Sel and Gemma) can meet Carson while Alec goes an like leaves the story (lol I don't know what to do with him) ok imam gonna stop now... XD im so freakin tired
No but seriously, could we kinda tell what we're all thinking? Not directly plan it ALL out but just what's happening now :) ok, now I'm really done.
Thanks Rouge Wildling!
Here is my character:
Name: Chyla
Gender: Female
Species or Model: Mutant
Appearance: Chyla’s appearance is that of a 5’ 10’’ humanoid fox with two tails, but she is a crystalline lifeform. Her “skin” is made out of a solid, quartz-like crystal, while deeper inside, veins of crystallized Hydrozen act as nerves. Her body is semi-transparent and her pulsing blue “nerves” are visible from the outside. The crystal that makes up her body is very hard, with her “claws” being able to cut metal. She can’t easily be cut, but can be chipped or broken. She doesn’t feel any pain when that happens, though, and can grow back parts of her body naturally as long as a portion still remains intact. It takes about a week for her to regrow an arm of leg, but the time needed to regenerate increases exponentially, with it taking a year to regrow half of her body (her limit is two-thirds; after that, she’s basically dead). As a crystal, Chyla doesn’t need any sustenance or sleep, and can survive any level of Hydrozen exposure. She also doesn’t open her mouth; she “speaks” by resonating part of her body, making her voice musical but indistinct. She doesn’t remember when she learned to speak. Chyla is also very agile, able to jump over a yard in the air and run at ~30 mph. When she moves, her two tails hit together, making a tinkling sound that ruins any chance at stealth.
Personality: She is friendly and curious about other lifeforms, and is often energetic and excited, sometimes about commonplace things. She is also an avid tinkerer, and has built and rebuilt many things from scrap she found in her travels. She’s terrible at directions.
Gear: She carries a good amount of scrap she scavenged from destroyed machines in a small satchel slung across her shoulder. Some of it is completely useless, but there are a couple Hydrozen batteries and other valuable stuff in there. Also in the satchel are her tools, such as a screwdriver and hammer, that she uses when building stuff. A couple makeshift bombs and a Hydrozen knife are strapped to the satchel's handle. She also built a “scouter”, a tactical eye-display she modified to show Hydrozen density (and by extension, androids), as well as locations of animal lifeforms. It can also show plant-based life, but she usually keeps that function off.
Reason to go to Eden: She thinks she can find answers there. See backstory.
Backstory: She doesn’t remember much about her early past, but knows that she was living happily with other people like her. Her earliest clear memory is of her settlement being destroyed by a group of black, sword-wielding androids. Her memory of how she survived is hazy, but she remembers a voice telling her: “Find Eden. There lies the answers and history you seek. I will wait for you there.” Since then, Chyla has searched for Eden in hopes that she can find out about her past and the androids there. However, she has no clue where Eden is, having never asked anyone for directions (not that they would have helped), and so has wandered for at least five years.
And here's my first post:
"There." Chyla said to herself as she finished screwing the cover on the scouter's tactical displacy. After putting her screwdriver in her satchel, she jumped off the rock she was crouching on and looked around. This is as good a place as any to test this thing, she thought, putting the scouter's modified ear strap around her ear. Chyla tapped the side of the scouter and its display flickered to life in front of her eye. "Cool!" she said, looking around. "Hydrozen levels ... lifesigns ... I was going to trade this, but its just so cool. I think I'll keep it. Speaking of trading ... (Chyla looked around with her scouter) Looks like a settlement over there, to the ... north? I can probably get a new hammer there. Okay then, nothward!" Chyla shouted excitedly, sprinting eastward torwards the settlement.
---------------------
Three dark shapes detached themselves from the shadow of a large rock.
"Detection source removed. Stealth mode deactivated."
"Target acquired. Moving eastward."
"Begin pursut with caution. Power level estimated at 6000."
"Acknowledged."
The three black androids moved stealthily and cautiously after Chyla, their sword hilts momentarily glinting in the sun.
Merry Christmas or what ever holiday you celebrate.
V.A.S-531~
"Now now, I-I am su-re there's a more peace-ful solu-tion to this. So just put the gun down and and and let's talk." As a gesture of peace, I drop the EAR-45 and the sciz blades. EM7 is concealed however...
Gamma growls as Ki tilts his head a bit. Seeming disappointed.
"I-I-I mean, af-ter all. You could have just ask profe-ssor."
Gamma growls at me. "I trust you....why?"
"Did I tell you to speak?!" I scowl. I turn back to the scientist. "I mean after all. You are part of the ASRI corre-ct? That is thier top grade haz-mat suit."
"Why yes, YES! Thank you for recognising that."
I grin.
"But of cours-e, I can't just hand this specim-en over to you. I do need to resto-ck on su-pplies. I need curre-ncy."
"Why yes of course! 2,500 tabs sound nice right?" I'm guessing Tabs is the currency of this new world. Or at least this town.
"Af-firmative. Looks like we have a-a deal." I hold out my hand.
And he foolishly shakes it.
I quickly pull him in, put him in a choke hold, and pull out the EM7. Pointing it at his head.
"Now if I see you so much as go within 30 feet of Gamma. The "Demon-wolf" you des-ire. I. Will. Kill. You. She is in the protection of the U.S./Japa-nese allied forces. Both me and you know that-know that you are not part of a gro-up that ende-d back in the 2600s. Nor is that their suit. Or should I end this now to avoid tr-ouble later?"
"You...can't....break... The...rules...of....robotics..."
"My codi-ng does not follow some com-mandm-ents made by a sc-ience fic-tion writer. My ex-istence breaks those rules." I drop him. "Leave while I still grant you mercy." The crowd disperces.
I turn around and face Gamma. "Sorry, but I felt I wo-uldn't get my point ac-ross if I just shot him."
"...So you lie to scientist to protect Gamma?"
"Yes, I had no inten-tion of selling you."
"You know...." Ki leaps down from his post "You should have made him give you the tabs first."
"I don't want his filthy mone-y."
"Still, I was more expecting a "pew pew pew" and "bang bang" and a "ackarggah""
I understood none of that.
Suddenly, a knife plunges into my back as a cyan liquid leaks from my chest.
"I don't like liars. You should have just given me the mutt."
"You sh-should have stabbed a little more to the left."
EM7 that close to the frontal lobe has a 0.0000000003% chance of survival.
He falls limply and without response.
"You alright?" Gamma brushes against me as Ki looks at my back.
"That does not look good."
"It's just coolant. Within a few week-s I'll heal on my own but let's find that mec-hanic, you want to go to Eden right?"
Ki~
"Come on, there's a tech bar by the waterfront. They'll have guys there who'd geek out at a chance to even see a V.A.S, let alone patch one up. One of them is named Sprungle." A small snort escapes my nostrils. "That's not an important detail, I just thought it was funny."
Sel squints. "And you said you've on-ly been in this to-own for a single d-day?"
"Oh, yes. Photographic memory. A blessing sometimes, a curse others."
We walk down the street to the edge of the large body of water, Sel clutching the side of his blue-stained shirt and Gamma looking only slightly less uncomfortable. Fortunately, although we still get passing glances, no one tries to attack us again.
Eventually, we stop in front of the entrance to a big rusted ship that is very much like a beached whale, resting on ground that is slightly spongier and more barren than usual. This suggests that the sea level has receded in this area, and ships that once bobbed proudly on the water now squat uselessly in the muddy sand.
Above a makeshift set of metal doors I can make out in faded letters: USS Annihilator. Added clumsily to the side of it in more recent red lettering: Inn and Engineering Emporium.
When we enter, it's too crowded for anyone to notice us. We're on the lowest deck, in a concourse area that give us a view of all the other interior decks up to the top and the crowds on each one. In one corner, next to what looks like a boiler, people are feverishly busy tinkering with various bionic and cybernetic parts. I smile. They were right about this town loving robots. I hope Sel isn't shy.
"We're lucky there's a lot of nice bright lights in here. I'll be able to keep at least most of my dignity once night falls."
"What happen at night?" Gamma says curiously.
"Let's just say it's the closest thing to a hangover someone like me can experience. It's not so bad when there's a big beautiful moon out, but it's going to be overcast tonight. I'm sure you can relate, huh Sel? Ever get low batteries?" I laugh a little to hide that I know absolutely nothing about robotics.
"Mm." Sel is focused on another corner of the ship, looking even more distracted than before.
I clap. "Well, you do what you need to do, 531. I'm gonna look around for a bit." I wish I had more time to socialize, but there's no time to waste. I've found my team. And first thing in the morning, we're heading to Eden.
---
I put us in a large open area so it'll be easier for the remaining charries to meet up with us. And happy holidays to you too, Writer!
I'm having way too much fun with this.
Gamma~
Heads turn as soon as we near the tinkering group of men. One lifts his huge glasses, thick and obviously designed to help him see exactly what's going on in one square centimeter of space. Most hands go to their respective mouths when they see 531's cyan "blood" seeping out of his chest, and two important-looking ones rush to support the V.A.S. I notice that my friend's eyes are dilating and contracting wildly and he sways. I catch him with my side, 531 disappearing halfway in my thick fur. These men don't seem to have malicious intent, so I allow them to take 531 and gently slide him onto the operating table. Saudering torches, industrial tweezers, and bundles of wires and plates of metal appear, slowly making their way onto and into 531's robotic body, fixing him until he looks as good as new. Suddenly, he opens his eyes from the trance he fell into when he flopped into my side. Ki lets out the breath he was holding, and I hum contentedly.
"It worked...!" Breathe a few engineers. 531 smiles up at us from the operating table. suddenly, something moves on the floor. Long, black, and covered in scales, that 'something' heads directly for the leg of the man who did the most to help 531. Something snaps inside of my soul. That snake, obviously poisonous judging from the fangs flashing into and out of sight whenever the snake opens its mouth, must die. Like a bolt of shadowy lightening and without touching anything but the ground, I dart forward, jaws open and ready to kill. The engineer, not having seen the snake, screams when he does see me, wild and ferocious, heading straight for him. Perfect.
So, can we talk about what’s happening? I was going to post, but now I need a little help. So, this place (the tinker shop) is where the characters are going to meet. But what if part of it is a pub? Like it’s an inn, correct? So I’m guessing they would have some sort of make shift food/drink bar. Because I think that just a tinker shop is directed toward a narrow crowd. I was thinking it would be crowded, and Carson could meet Ki, who’s separate from 531 and Gamma...
Just thought that we could share our thoughts!
Chyla skipped across one of the ship's upper balconies. I knew this settlement had some good trades, she thought, looking happily at her new hammer. I just wish that those gate guards had calmed down sooner. Then I wouldn't have a chunk blown off my arm. That's going to take a day to regen ... hold on. Chyla turns her scouter on and off a couple times. "Hey!" She shouted at Ki, who was standing a short distance away. "Are you like a plant or something? Oh! Or an android that doesn't run on Hydrozen or ..." "Excuse me?" Ki said, walking over to Chyla. "Oh, sorry. My name's Chyla. You're not showing up on my Hydrozen and lifesign detection 'scouter'. That's pretty interesting. Maybe we could talk, be friends? I'll probably be here a couple more days ..." "I can't." Ki replied, walking away. "I'm heading for Eden tomorrow." "You're going to Eden?" Chyla jumped over to Ki, knocking over a table in the process. "I going there too! Could we go together? If we travel as a group, we have a better chance of getting there. So, can I join you? Please?"
I've been waiting for a good time to come in, thanks J.B.E!  If i get anything wrong just tell me what it was and act as if it never happened, I don't want to slow things down.
~~~

Through the doorway in the tinker area, a large trading hub that may have been a ballroom at one time was buzzing with activity.  A man so large and muscular that he almost certainly had a mutation of some kind was holding a huge cluster of canteens and arguing avidly with a little girl, who was about and eighth of his size.  They were standing directly in the doorway, and they kept getting cut off as people came through.

"65 tabs," he said firmly.

"But sir, if you'll pardon me, I've bought water many times and it's never be-" she was cut off as a young woman and an anrdoid pushed in between them, "-well, it's never been over 25-!"

"65 tabs.  This water is clean.  You pay for the assurance.  That's how it works." He said shortly.

"Ye-yes sir, I understand.  Perhaps 35?" she said timidly.  Lucy was to nervous to press the point, and he knew it.

"65."

"Forty-seven?"

"55," he relented.  She clearly had money and he wouldn't want to lose a possible repeat customer.  Besides, the water wasn't even worth 15.

"Okay.  Thank you." Lucy placed a handful of tabs in his enormous outstreched palm.  He slung a large canteen off his back and dropped it into her arms.  The little girl buckled under the weight, and by the time she regained her balance he had disappeared into the crowd.

She stood there, getting bumped and jostled by the passing crowd.  Snippets of conversation reachced her ears and the flew away again.

"The whole town, burnt-"

"Get over here, look at this price!-"

"Oh geez where's my wallet-"

"I'm heading for Eden tomorrow."

"You're going to Eden?"

Eden? Lucy perked up and glanced around frantically for the speakers.  They caught her eyes almost immediately, as the one girl was very noticeable.  She had two fox tails and skin that looked like it was made of pure crystal.   Slipping her way between people's legs and tripping under the weight of the water, Lucy dodged the falling table and darted up to them. She reached the pair just as Chya was asking to come along.

"May I come too, please?" Lucy asked quickly before Ki could answer. She knew the offer was terribly unsolicited, but she was so lonely after weeks of solo travel that she hardly cared.

Ki~

They certainly weren't kidding when they said I'd be able to meet a lot of people here.

The crystal mutant, Chyla, is by far one of the most interesting life forms I've met. The way her body melodically resonates when she speaks... it's pretty neat. But I'm not sure if telling her that would come off as insulting or not. So I don't.

And now... a kid?

I've never really spent any time around kids. Big crazy wolves I can handle, but kids?

I guess anything really can happen out in the wastelands.

Think, Ki. How do you talk to kids.

"Uh... hi there. Are you here by yourself, or...?"

"She wants to go with us!" Chyla looks at me.  "Isn't this exciting? We'll make a thing out of it! Imagine, a band of ragtag travelers searching for the legendary Eden..." he arm sweeps the room, as if to lay out a map only she can see. She accidentally smacks a passerby in the jaw with her forearm.

"Hey!" I exclaim with a grin. "Watch what you say or you'll get this entire ship on board too!"

"I promise I won't get in anyone's way," the girl pleads. "It's just been so long since I had any company."

I glance down at her. "Look, if it were just me, I'd say the more the merrier. But I really don't know how my current traveling companions would take this."

"And who are they?" Chyla asks.

"A Vessel Assault Scout named Sel, and Gamma, this big, spooky, wolf-thing... Oh, gosh. She'd likely tear me to shreds if she heard me call her that."

"Wow! You're traveling with a V.A.S?" the girl cries excitedly, seemingly oblivious to that last part. "I've only read about those. Does he have an EAR-45? Oh, or an EM7?"

"What."

Looks like I know even less about kids than I thought. When did they all become android aficionados?

"Your friends sound very interesting," Chyla says, crossing her arms. "I'd like to meet them soon."

I sigh. "Alright, alright. I'm sure they'd be fine with this. But in any case... let's get out of the middle of the walkway. There's a pub on this deck where we can sit down and discuss this. Plus I'm thirsty."

"A kid joins our party and your first impulse is to go drink?" Chyla says dubiously.

"Uh, yeah. Water." I waggle my hand in front of her face, showing her my slightly wilted fingertips. I've been so busy lately I haven't had time for a good watering.

"Oh. I suppose that makes sense. Lead the way, then."

"I'm right here, by the way," the small girl pipes, struggling to keep up with us while lugging her big canteen around. "And my name's Lucy."

When we reach the pub, almost all of the circular tables are completely full with people of the large and threatening variety, many giving us the stink eye to reinforce that people like us don't belong in a place like this. Only one table has open seats, its lone occupant a man with short brown hair and blue veins on his face.

"Hello," I say to him as we approach. "Mind if we sit here?"

I brought Carson in! Hopefully this is more or less what you had in mind, Tux.
