Chatterbox: Inkwell

6 am
Kierke, HR 289

The sun rose. It was the same brilliant gold it had been the day before, but it had since shrunk.

It was a tired sort of brilliance.

Qusent opened the front door and looked out into the morning. Despite the sunrise, the sky was still a dark blue, and the street lamps had yet to burn out. There had been no snow for years, but a thick layer of sparkling frost rested on the roofs of the village.

Silver, purple, gold.

Colors of royalty, Qusent thought. Dead royalty.

The sun rose slowly- nervously- into the dark sky.

[no idea if this is going anywhere, but the sunrise outside my house looked super cool this morning and I felt like writing something slightly weird lol]

Ooh. I have been intrigued! *retreats into the shadows and watches, curious to see where this goes*

8:30 pm
Derme, 1200

The sky was completely covered with clouds and smoke. A dimly lit circle shone through the haze.

Tallin sighed. The smog- as she liked to call it- was interfering with the radio signals again. It'd probably be another day before she could communicate with other cities.

She stuck her head out the the window of her room in a high-rise building and looked down at the dark, quiet streets. A familiar old woman wearing a shabby orange dress walked into Tallin's building.

Tallin threw on her hat and rushed down the stairs into the lobby. She was met by the sight of a small dog bounding around and an old woman in a shabby orange dress looking on in amusement.

"Leaburn!" she cried.

The woman looked up and grinned. "Good evening, Tallin! How long has it been?"

"Too long," Tallin smiled. "Are the signals open yet?"

"No, but I have mail from Kierke."

"Praise the dawn! We haven't-" Tallin cut herself short. Leaburn seemed too somber for it to be any sort of good news. "What was in the letter?"

"News of assassination."

A siren wailed somewhere in the distance.
