Fallen Age RP

The age of technology has come and gone, and with it, most of the human race. After the Great Plague, only a fraction of the humans who once populated the earth are left, and those who remain are faced with the oldest struggle of all time - survival. Survival is everything. Survival is doing whatever it takes to make sure that you make it, even if someone else doesn’t. Because if you die, then so do the memories of every friend and loved one you ever knew who woke up on the last morning of their life to find that they too, had gotten sick. And so began the Fallen Age.

~~~
That was 79 years ago. The smart ones and the strong ones survived. They banded together, because it was the only way, and after a few decades or so, for grit, or resourcefulness, or for sheer force of will, a few came out on top and formed five clans:
Ebony.
Korranth.
The Vali Nation.
X-85.
Incendium.
Some are enemies. Some are allies. They coexist, they fight, they survive. Friendship is something that everyone needs but no one believes in - or dares to trust. But one day, something changes. Scouts bring news of Kzaldaran, an empire devoted to eliminating those who refuse to bend to their will. And they’re coming their way. No one yet has survived their wrath, and the clans won’t either, unless they unite. But will they be able to put aside their differences, their politics and disagreements, or will they fall into a war that will eventually destroy them?
These are the clans:
Ebony - The Ebonese people are unique from the other clans because their ancestors all had one thing in common - their dark, black-brown eyes. These eyes indicated an incredibly rare gene that granted immunity from the Plague. While everyone else around them got sick, the Ebonies stayed healthy. In the first few years after the Plague struck, they travelled from group to group with all the other survivors, but over time they gradually stuck with others with the same ebony eyes, until eventually the clan was formed. As a result, many bits and pieces of other clans cultures have worked their way into Ebonese culture. Ebonies value healing and self sacrifice to help others. Ebony and Incendium have always had a very strained relationship.
Korranth - When the Plague struck, Korranth was one of the last cities infected. It’s leaders, and a selection of the city’s healthiest people between the ages 15 and 25, quarantined themselves and the city’s supplies in the capitol building, and stationed guards around the city to prevent the infected from entering. It didn’t work. One by one, the guards got sick, and soon all of Korranth but those inside the building were wiped out. They did not do the noble thing. They did not do the right thing. But there they were, alive, while those who had were not. Repulsed by what their leaders had done, the young drove out the old and had them make sure it was safe to go outside, and from then on they took charge. Korranthians prize youth and morality above everything else, and will always own up to their mistakes. The Korranth and the Incendi are allies.
The Vali Nation - After the Great Plague, those who survived travelled in small groups from abandoned town to abandoned town, scavenging for supplies. The Vali Nation is built upon scraps and determination, and was pieced together over a long period of time by stragglers and salvaging. They are named after Vali, the Norse god and son of Odin, and one of the few who survived Ragnarok - the end of the world, in Norse Mythology. They are generally more focused on peace and cooperation, and are the only clan to have an alliance with X-85 Teraldi, due to their non-combative nature. Their culture is a mix of any Pre-Fallen Age information they could scrounge up, and customs from the different groups that joined to form the Vali.
X-85 - Also known as Teraldi. Named for the origin of their survival, an isolated, abandoned warehouse in the sector X-85, of the Teraldi forest, that somehow managed to shelter them from the Great Plague. They avoided getting sick only by turning away everyone seeking shelter, and thus they prize hardness of heart and isolation as the most effective means of survival. They accept new members only after intense scrutiny, and are extremely proud and loyal. Their only alliance is the Vali Nation.
Incendium - The most brutal of the clans, named after how they burned an entire village to the ground to wipe out the risk of disease after the Plague, and then built their base from its ashes. The Incendi are warriors through and through, and choose fire as their symbol, seeing themselves as its master. The Incendi and the Teraldi have always fought, the Incendi seeing the Teraldi as cowards and the Teraldi seeing the Incendi as idiots - neither of which is true. The Incendi have always liked to encroach just a little to far on to X-84’s well protected land, which grates against the Teraldi custom of isolation.
My charrie:
Name: Kye Ghidaki
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Clan: X-85
Position/role (leader, second, fighter, hunter, etc.): Leader
Appearance: Around 5’6, with thick, frizzy/curly red brown hair usually in a braid reaching halfway down her back or loose with smaller braids woven in. Light freckles and grey-green eyes.
Personality: Strong and cold. Will do anything to keep her people safe, even if they don’t like it. Respected by her people, and proud. Most people think her emotionless, but this is only because her emotions are so strong she has learned to suppress them and pretend they don’t exist. She believes that they interfere with her ability to lead and make the right choice. Determined, but somewhat close minded.
Background/history: Kye grew up in Teraldi and was elected leader after proving herself worthy through a series of tests administered to her generation, assessing fighting ability and the Teraldi qualities of quick thinking and intelligence. Like all who live during the Fallen Age, she has seen death firsthand. Kye was mentored by X-85’s strict previous leader, Rowan Taliq. She’s had to make it impossible, difficult choices for her people, and though they can’t see it, it’s taken a real toll on her.
Other: It would be cool if she had a second who was her complete opposite, in order to challenge her views
A couple more things:
1. Please try and post regularly. I’d like to keep this rp going and not have it die off. I will probably only be able to post on weekends because school is hard, but I’ll do my best and we’ll see how this goes.
2. This world is yours to explore - feel free to add in any details or develop what you’d like, as long as it’s consistent with what has already been established. I may even change things that I’ve already written in order for things to make more sense or to fix any mistakes.
 Kestrel, Jaedon is my character not Leeli's, but they can definitely be friend! :)
Jaedon~
I watch, troubled, as the gathering descends into chaos. Then, the
Vali second steps up and subdues everyone. Something about her
manner, or her self-assuredness, annoys me, but her words have
merit, and I roll my eyes at Kael’s hotheaded challenge. I debate
going over to try and temper Kael’s anger, but seeing that Sasha
seems to have it under control, I quietly slip out of the tent, unable to
take any more of the irritating bickering.
I linger on the outskirts of the clearing, listening to the rise and fall of
the voices in the tent, and pondering this new threat. Who are these
“Kzaldrans”? Why do they now come after us? If this is a threat, how
great a threat is it? Deep in my thoughts, I don’t register Sasha
calling my name, and start as she reaches me. “Kimbr. Where did
you go?”
"Volchenok.” I reply, with a nod of greeting. “Their bickering was
irritating, and you seemed to have Kael in hand, so I decided to clear
my head and wait out here.” She gives a small smirk, and takes a
seat on som crates beside me.
“So what was decided?” I ask. “Will we be sending out a ‘heavily
armed scout group’ as the Vali second suggested?”
“Yes, I believe so,” she nods. “In the meantime, we will prepare
ourselves here, in case… “ she trails off. “We are to reconvene at
midday tomorrow to discuss further details.”
I nod thoughtfully, standing up. “Well, I am going to go check on Kael,
see if he wants me for anything.”
“Yes, I had better come with you.” She agrees. “Kael looked pretty
angered when the meeting ended.”
I give her my hand up, and we head towards Kael’s tent. Lifting the
flap to enter the tent, we find Kael pacing, deep in thought. He turns
towards us as we enter, with a slight sigh of relief. “Sasha. Jaedon.”
We nod a greeting to him, before he asks, “What is your opinion,
Jaedon? Is this scout group a good idea? I don’t like the idea of
sending away some of our best people with the other clans.”
I sigh. “This probably isn’t a good idea, and you know I will support
you in whatever you choose to do, Kael, but I do believe it is the best
idea we have right now.”
He exhales, closing his eyes. “Fine.” After a moment, he turns
towards me. “Jaedon, if we go through with this, I want you on the
scout group.”
“I’m not a scout.”
“No, but it will be a heavily armed scout group, which means they will
need a few fighters, and I can count on you to keep your head.
Besides, there’s no one I trust more than you and Sasha.” He looked
directly at me when he said this, and I met his gaze, nodding my
thanks for his trust. Beside me, I could sense Sasha doing the same.
“So? Will you?”
“Of course.”
Okay, so we really need another Ebony character, but I already have two, so I don't really want to make another... So, in this post, I am referencing a scout named Ashet, who will be Ebony's participant in the group of scouts. If anyone wants to RP as Ashet, you can; otherwise, he can just remain a sort of NPC. If that makes sense?
-- Jasmine --
The pen scratches against the paper as I scribble my hasty thoughts. Journaling has always been an outlet for me, so this notebook (and its predecessors) has been through everything.
So here I am at another season's gathering! All the discussion thus far has been about Kzaldaran and whatever that is, but-
My writing is interrupted by the mock knocking of a person at the "doorway" to my tent. I look up to see my sister, Mags.
"Come on in! What's up?"
"I was just thinking about this scout group we're supposed to contribute to."
"Yes... what about it?"
"Um, who are we going to send?"
"I was thinking Ashet."
"Ashet?"
"Yes, Ashet. He's not our absolute best, but I'd rather keep the best with us and safe."
"Hm, okay. Makes sense."
--
(switching to my other charrie here)
-- Taston --
I stand at the periphery of the gathering, listening to the discussion with one half of my brain while watching for threats with the other. I catch the words 'destroy us all' and immediately switch to just the discussion. A group called Kzaldaran who want to destroy us? We seriously need to do something about this. They seem to be proposing a group of scouts to go out and investigate - no, wait, highly armed scouts. Of course.
The discussion continues for the rest of the day, in which I can barely resist strolling in there and sharing my insights. Of course, however, I cannot, for my duty is to guard, not to talk.
That evening, my leader, Ka'naid, calls me to her tent.
"Did you hear the discussion today?" she asks.
"Yes, of course."
"Any thoughts?"
"Well, see, this party that you're discussing to go and investigate needs more people in it than just some highly armed scouts. It'll need fighters, probably a healer, some people more experienced in combat. Plus, you'll need some diplomats to make sure it doesn't break apart into individual clans. The worst possible thing you can do when faced with an attack is to divide."
"Of course, I see, that makes sense, and yes, I hadn't thought about that."
"Um, okay. Anything else?"
"No, that's all. You can go."
Hi Xavier-
My breathing slightly ebbs as I hear the news and the room erupts. Had there really been a third party of attacking scouts? Or is this another lie, created to weave more distrust and turmoil between the clans? By the sound of the young scout he was definitely telling the truth... but you never know. But there is slight chance that this scout isn’t lying and that sends a cold shiver down my spine. My other present clan mates have both skeptical and wary looks. Our leader Skyfyar isn’t as easy to descend. They always have an intelligently quaint approach to these matters, but they are very aware of the gravity. After a drawn out reaction, Varia stands up with a loud clatter and shouts,
“Enough!”
—————
Ahhh I have to cut this short! I hope I can post tomorrow. I’m really sorry! It didn’t build the story at all... again, my apologies!
Varia~
I walked out of my tent and went to check on our clan's sentry. Night was falling fast, but I had no trouble picking my way through the confused mass of tents that surrounded the meeting place. Reaching the sentry, I found him fast asleep. Leaning over, I spoke into his ear: "Wake up." The sentry jumped up, a startled look on his face. "You were on the night watch all night yesterday," I said. "You haven't slept for at least 48 hours. A tired sentry is useless. I'll take over your post tonight." "B-But..." "You heard me. Get some sleep." "Y-Yes, ma'am." I sat down by the fire as the sentry picked his way back to his tent. I never understood why other people need to sleep so frequently. In my five years with Vali, I had only slept once, when dark clouds had covered the sky and sun for weeks on end. Then, I had slept for two weeks and, according to Archi, no one had been able to wake me. Just one more thing that made me different. Noticing the fire had died out, I took a nearby piece of flint and set it on some unused wood. I then sent a small discharge from my hand to the flint, causing sparks that lit the wood. Moving over to the new fire, I thought over everything that had happened today. The scout's report, my suggestion, and the decision to wait until tomorrow. Somethign was still bothering me, though. I didn't want to show it in front of everyone, but I had heard the name Kzaldaran before. Somewhere, I had heard of them...
Welcome to Kzaldaran. We've been waiting for you, Varia.
Jumping up, I looked across the dark plain. No moon shone onto the land, but my infrared sight wasn't hindered by that. I wonder why other people act as though they can't see infrared? As I looked around, I saw nothing, no life across the barren plain. But I couldn't shake the feeling I just had. That someone was calling my name. That feeling stayed with me during my entire vigil, all the way until the rising dawn, when I turned over the watch to the day guard and went to talk with Archi before the metting resumed.
Ooh, sorry i haven't posted yet. Also, I'm increasing Ka'naid's age to 19
~Ka'naid
My scout, Dev, seems scared, and I wonder why he escaped, so I ask him after the meeting ends. "So, these 'Kzalderans'..."
"Y-yes..." this normally courageous scout has been reduced to someone scared of his own shadow. I will destroy these "Kzalderans" for what they did...None of those scouts had been on more than one mission before, none of them were over seventeen...
"How did you escape, Dev?"
"Er, well..." he seems rather embarassed. "I was sorta... Relieving myself behind a bush. Once I saw them kill Sar and Denna, I jumped- er, well, more like fell- off the cliff into a sand dune, which covered me enough for me to be hidden." he absentmindedly scrapes sand out of his ear."
"Dumb luck, then?"
"Er, yes, Ka'naid."
"Well, your luck is better than my grandparents, which is saying something.
"What?"
"My grandparents accidentally got locked in a storage closet in the Capitol building for the entirety of the Plague."
"I'm... Not going t-to ask why they were in there in the first place."
"Yeah, you don't want to."
I walk off, apparently satisfied, but Dev's story doesn't add up... They weren't patrolling near the cliff.
~the next day
I'm still troubled by Dev's story in the morning, but I push it out of my head as I head for the meeting tent. Dev comes in with me as well, being the only witness to a Kzalderan attack. All the leaders are already here, and I have Dev recount his story, and we take turns interogating hime about the armor and weapons of the Kzalderans. I ask him to leave and tell the other leaders that his story doesn't add up completely.
"Why?"
"Because they weren't anywhere near the cliff yesterday. And plus, why would he be relieving himself near the cliff... Though he always has been a bit of a thickskull."
this elicits a few laughs, and I tell them who I'm sending on the mission. "I'm sending a guard and a fighter, Taston Amrashu, Aaran Mansfield... And myself."
