Urban Fantasy RP! (for the CB reunion!)

It's Valentine's Day, 2019. Everything is normal- there's a new magical animal reserve being built, the nation of dragons is getting along well with the humans, the sirens and harpies are fighting in the streets again (three sailors have died in the past week, and humans are advised not to stay out after dark.) There's a fairy exchange student coming to town, confusing that one kid who still mixes up pixies- a type of insect- with fairies.

It's not perfect, but life is going on like normal. That is until the sea starts to churn...

Alani~~

I wake up with a blinding beam of sunlight shining into my eyes. I groan sleepily and roll over. I sigh heavily, then grudgingly pick up my phone, which was lying on my bedside table, and check the time. There's still a few hours until my shift. Guess I could get ready for the day.

Half an hour later, I scurry out the door, phone in one hand and purse in the other, wings stiffly concealed under my shirt. The sounds of the big city fill my ears like a chorus of life surrounding me. I stop at a cute, cheery cafe for breakfast. Once I open the door, leaving a small bell ringing in my wake, I spot a friend of mine, Alex, sitting in a corner by the window, her legs crossed and coolness factor pumped to the max. I wave. She spot me and waves back, motioning me to join her.

"Happy Valentine's Day [are we pretending it's still Valentine's Day?]!" I greet. She grins.

"You too! Have any plans?" she asks.

"Nah, just sit around, eat chocolate alone in my apartment, and hate my ex," I reply with a smirk. My phone rings with a call from my mom. I press answer, flip my wavy hair away from my ear, and spit out a greeting through a huge yawn.

Mom's voice is paniced and high-pitched, and she's talking way too fast. "Slow down!" I instuct. "What's wrong?"  She takes a few deep, stuttering breaths before repeating her message. I listen intently.

"Alani, Miriam is missing. No note, nothing gone, no clue whatsoever of where or why she left. She's- she's just gone!" She stutters through terrified sobs. My heart drops down to my stomach- Miriam? Gone? She's the most modest, kind-hearted kid you'll ever know- there's no way she'd go voluntarily.

"Oh, Mom! Do you think- was- was she kidnapped?" I breathe. "What should we do?"

"Oh, I don't know, I don't know!" She moans. "Call the police?"

"No, police are busy taking care of the gangs," I remind her. Then a lightbulb goes off in my head- the gangs.

"I think I know someone who can help us," I say slowly. "Can you and Melanie sit tight? I'll tell you if something happens. I look up at Alex, who looks utterly shcoked and confused. I mouth I gotta go! to her. She closes her jaw and gives me a thumbs-up. I scramle out of my seat.

"O-okay. Yes. We'll be alright," Mom says.

"Okay, thanks. Bye," I say, hanging up.

Time to visit my Faerie friends...

@Soren Infinity: sure they can be friends! sounds great!

@Blue moon: yes, that sounds good, Wade could defenitly be kidnapped, in fact...

~~~Brina~~~
It had taken a while, but I had finally talked Wade out of letting lose a case of pixies in Marina's room. My second in command would have probably retailated, and I couldn't deal with another one of their wars.
By now, the soft glow of the sun out my window had dwindled to a ghost of what it used to be, the sky turning shades of pink and orange. I sat down on my bed, taking in the room around me. The stool sitting by the old oak desk. Papers sat a top it; plans, for things ranging between different amounts of importance. An old ceiling fan slowing spun around giving a nice breeze in my stuffy room. The walls were a sliver grey with abstract lavender designs I painted myself. It felt like home.
Wade had decided to turn in early tonight, and that had left Marina, Peter and I alone at our typical table. well, I suppose it wasn't exactly alone, but it was quieter without him there.
Marina and Peter had decided to walk me back to my apartment, Marina constantly pestering me about Wade's next attack plan on her.
"Mare, I completely and honestly don't know!" I laughed as she wondered if he would try and set her bed aflout like they did in the old movie Parent Trap. Considering her lilac wings could easily carry her and her mattress out of the water, I didn't see what she had to fear, beside of course, if the sirens decided to show up.
sirens. They were utterly the worst. always seemed to think they could control everyone and everything. Not exactly something I could fix though, so I was stuck complaining about them to anyone in my gang who would listen.
"you're thinking about them, aren't you?" Peter said, giving me a mock roll of his eyes. "Brina you've got to let it go. it's not like their hurting anyone right?"
"I mean you're right, but they're just really annoying, a lot like you," I joked, Peter threw his hand against his chest and gave a prolonged gasp.
"how dare you!" he choked out. it was my turn to roll my eyes.
"well this is my stop guys, I've got some stuff to take care of before I sleep. I'm thinking about a treaty with the elves? but I have no idea how to even initiate that, so we'll see how that goes." I give them a mock salute as I dissapear into my room.
~~~

I woke up to something slamming against my window. I quickly got up. slightly flutting with large feathered wings was a winged. his face looking like it was crafted from an app and then programmed because there wasn't a flaw in sight. excpet for the sour expression lining his mouth. "Brina Willows, leader of the Faeries, you need to come with me." with that he took my wrist and begun flying away. I had no choice but to follow, his grip like iron.

I shivered in my teeshirt and sweatpants, it was much warmer in my room.

the winged flew us over the town, the sky darkening the longer we flew, after so long I could barely make out the eagle feathers in front of me. and then he dove downwards. I felt like I was falling. it was one thing to drop like this during the day, and when you were actually in control of where you were flying, but when a stranger from a gang you despise decided to fall throught the air like dead weight with a clasp on you, you tend to worry for your life just a little.

and then we were on solid ground again. I had never been so thankful of solid ground. I assumed this was the Winged gang's place.

the Winged pushed me inside a set of door, then to an elevater which we took down to the bottom floor. I was pushed out and left alone, as the winged left.

the room was okay, much more fancy than the Faeries but it was too much, limestone collums and marble floors. a bit over the top.

The unforgetable face of Celeano appeared from behind a corner, he seemed to be bickering with another girl, I guessed she was Corrin the infamouse second in command.

"what in the world of Morphlings could you two want?" I snarled, taking a step back as they advanced toward me.

"we could ask you the same thing, Brina," Corrin shot back, her wings giving an agressive fwap behind her.

"oh really? I'm not the one that dragged a someone who could ingage war, down into a gang's headquarters."

"I doubt you'd do that," Celeano piped in, a malice grin spreading across his face, "you must be concerend with what we're doing down here." I stared at him blankly. He seemed to sense my confusion. "We caught you're boyfriend down here."

"My boy-I'm sorry, what?" I said shaking my head and trying to make sense of what he said.

"you know, the annoying boy who was muttering about how he would make a fine ruler."

relization hit me like a truck. "Oh my gosh, you have Wade."

Corrin~

Time to visit the Sirens, see how they're doing. Since Eris is missing, they'll need me to cover for her. At least I'm appreciated among the Sirens. Familiar winding alleys and hidden pathways pass as I make my way carefully to the Siren camp. I musn't be followed, so I try to keep off the ground and out of the air. It's pretty easy when there's a lot of wooden pallettes strewn about from previous scraps. Honestly, I thought these gangs would be a little more organized, but I found the Sirens are defensive and the Harpies are just... Utterly pathetic. There's nothing impressive about them. Especially not Celeano, the hypocrite. I must replace him, and soon, or the Harpies will fall. Maybe then we can change from a brutish club to a sophisticated gang with especially good fighters, bent on preservation, not reckless destruction. I smile at the thought. Celeano would scowl, but he's a fool. Eris may have liked the idea... She's smarter than her brother. I miss her. She's like the sister I've never had. Soon, I start passing Siren entrance-guards. Shock fills their faces and they rush to me.

"Where have you been, Lieutenant? Captain has gone missing!" That's another one of my favorite things about the Sirens. They call me 'Lieutanant', sand Eris 'Captain', as though we were on a ship. They're very respectful of their leaders here, something lacking in the Harpies, most likely of Celeano's idiocy.

I'm so sorry, I haven't posted in ages! Also @Annabeth C., nice reference, heh. You had Celaeno a lot out of character, though, and I had a plan for what he was going to do, so I'm going to change the events of what happened a little! (I meant being captured by the Mysterious Force, btw, not by Celaeno.) Also, I replaced Corrin with Anna, since she’s at the Sirens. And the city is called Daya now because I said so. And italics are with asteriks because my computer is acting up.

***

Celaeno got up early, changing and making sure he had a good supply of weapons on his belt. *Okay. I'm going to go find Eris.* He briefly considered brushing his hair, before giving up that idea when his brush got stuck in his curls.

He’s tense and nervous, still shaken from his exchange with Corrin, so when he sees a flash of ebony-black wing, he reached out and for his knife and in a second he’s holding a dark-haired faerie by the collar of his shirt, knife across his neck.

The faerie boy yelped and gasped for air as Celaeno backed him up against a wall. *See, Watcher?* he couldn’t help thinking. *I’m powerful.*

*Beating the crap out of some random faerie is not being powerful,* mind-Corrin responded, though she sounded more like his sister Eris.

Celaeno sighed and lessened his grip just a little. “Wade, isn’t it? What are you doing here?”

Wade shrugged, though it was awkward with Celaeno still gripping onto his shirt. “Spying?”

“*Wrong answer,*” Celaeno hissed and called over a nearby Harpie- Jarax. One of his best fighters, but terrible at strategy and not one of Celaeno’s real friends. He was really hot, though, with his perfect skin and long dark braids woven with gold strings, and huge wings like an eagle.

“Fetch Brina. Tell her we have her boyfriend. I’ll meet her when you have her here.”

Jarax nodded and took off through the nearest opening to the sky.

Wade looked weirdly pleased. “Boyfriend?”

“I’m holding you at knifepoint,” Celaeno told him. “You’re in trouble with one of the biggest gangs in Daya and the rest of the US. And you’re excited because I think you and Brina are cute together.”

He shrugged again. “I try to appreciate the smaller things in life. By the way, doesn’t a ruler’s significant other get to be second in command?”

Celaeno frowned. “What if you break up with them? And besides, my old boyfriend would be a terrible second in command. Our base would be in flames in half a second.”

“I feel like your ex and I would get along,” Wade commented, “Brina always tells me that.”

“If you’re finished talking about your old flames to our hostage,” Anna said, leaning on a doorway- how did she even get there without him noticing?- “Brina’s going to be here any minute.”

True to her word, Jarax appeared a minute later, dragging the leader of the Faeries behind him. Celaeno couldn’t help but wish their visitors hall looked a bit nicer- it was just a simple rooftop structure like the rest, albeit with some nice windows and prettily painted walls, plus fancy locks on the doors.

He left Wade with Jackson and advances on Brina. They talked for a short while, then Celaeno made an offer he’d been thinking about for a while.

“I’ll let you off this once. If…”

“If what?” Brina asked.

“If you help me find my sister Eris.”

first off sorry about portraying celaeno really badly he’s a very particular type of character isn’t he :p

you on the other hand captured Wade perfectly! That was such an amazing protayal! Anyway I don’t really know why I said first off cause that was pretty much the only thing I wanted to say. But anyway I’ll get working on writing my piece soon

@Annabeth- Thanks so much!! I really like Wade's character, so I'm glad I got him right haha

Sorry if I'm being a bit controlling over Celaeno, but he is my character and I have a lot of ideas about him...

@Rogue- That might be fun, but Celaeno is really only open to shipping with a guy. Honestly, I've kind of been shipping Corrin and Eris... what do you think? (I probably should have put that on the character sheet...)

~~~
Bri wouldn't let me let lose Pixie's in Marina's room, and that was a big mistake on her part, because it would have been hilarious. Top notch humor. I know at least one other person that would laugh. I think.
I told Peter, Marina and Bri that I was gonna lock up early, and in all honesty, I really was going to. I was laying on my bed staring up at the ceiling, thinking about what Bri had said about me being a second in command. I wouldn't be that terrible, I couldn't have been. I think she forgets sometimes that she joined the gang after me. Not that I'm saying she isn't deserving of the role, because as long as I've been with the Faeries, Bri's no doubt the best leader we've had. But she hadn't always been like that.
I remember when she first showed up on our metephoric front porch. she was drenched in rain water, and her pants' leg was a darkned color. From the multicolored bruise peppered on her cheek I could assume she had gotten into a fight recently. I later learned she used to get into them often.
I was the one who found her, I was stuck on patrolling under my eldest's brother's watch, he was teaching me how to contribute to the gang, how to keep our head quarters safe. as he always did when he was with me, John chose the safest a large abandoned lot. the only action I had ever seen there was a rabbit.
Before John decided to be flee the whole Gang wars, we were pretty close, and he was the person who had the most faith in me, so he left me to scout on my own on the left side while he took the right side. the right was much closer to civilization so there was lesslikely a chance of my seeing anyone, but he still let me off on my own, and that was more than what our mother had done.
I remember the day pretty well actually, it wasn't too warm, but not cold enough for a jacket. the ground squashed beneath my feet because of the rain from yesterday night. I was wandering around because eleven year old me had no purpose in the old lot.
I heard a noise from one of the dilapidated buildings, the kind that people regulated. I was supposed to report anything remotly interesting to John, but he was on the other side of the lot, and I was curious.
I pushed aside fallen rubble from an opening and looked around, it was an old lobby for an apartment building. there was another noise and I crept along the wall trying not to scare whoever, or whatever was there.
once I rounded a corner, I saw her. Honey hair littered with little branches and dirt, mud and bruises paintied onto her face. I was about to back away and get John and report an intruder, until I saw her large  saphire blue wings jut out from behind her. she could sense I was here.
she had whirled around, meeting my eyes with her own forrest green ones. Despite her gaze filled with exhaustion, she still had one of the most bone chilling stares I had ever seen. I wasn't sure if she was going to attack me or not, and it looked like she didn't know either.
Finally, she had let her gaze drop, and tried to push herself off the ground stumbling slightly, but still standing. her entire body shook, but when she spoke her voice was steady, "why are you?"
"I'm Wade," I had said stupidly, John had always told me not answer questions from anyone I didn't know.
it had taken some persuading but I had gotten her to come with me to John. He seemed a little less than happy when I brought back an an under the radar Faeire. He said we should bring her to head quarters, and throughout the way back he was uncharacterestically cold. I tried to make it up to Bri by joking, and asking her questions about herself, most of which she dodged but spinning them onto me.
I remember the first time she came came clean about her past, her family, it was the one and only time I had ever seen her cry. It was longer after John and I had brought her back, and she was forced to answer to the current gang leader. who immedeatly took a liking to her. Caroline assingened me to show her around.
it was a thursday and it was long after Caroline had passed and Bri had  taken over, beating everyone in the fight that was permitted to take place once the ruler had died. Bri had won. somehow.
we had been sitting in her room, the leader's room. and we were talking about simple things, we had grown close over the past few years. I still remember the conversation word for word.
"you know, I really don't think you're brother ever like me," she laughed. we had just finished talking about how he left the gang with my mother.
"What? noo, he was your biggest fan surely."
"well at least that makes someone."
"what?"
she looked at the picture above her bed, it was a couple one woman and a man.
"you look at that a lot, are those your parents?"
"oh, uh, yeah they were."
"were?"
"yeah as in not anymore."
"Can I, uhh, ask why? did you run away?"
"kinda the other way around actually, but when I ran it was never from them."
"C'mon Bri, stop talking all cryptic."
"My mom, well she died after me, I guess my dad didn't want me after that. It was hard  I guess, when I thought nobody wanted me, that they though...that they....that I was just something that had caused so much destruction, so much pain, that I was the reason I was alone." Tears slipped down her pale cheeks.
"oh, uh, wait, no it's okay," I hugged her awkwardly.
I sat up in my bed looking around. I needed to get out of this room. I really didn't need to think about a sad Bri right now, and thinking about bri made me think of leaders, and thinking about leaders making me thing about Celeano. and thinking about him makes me want to know what's going on with him and his sister and his gang.
so I leave. I sneak out my window, and I try not to make a sound as I fly down into the Winged head quarters.
Celeano was whispering to someone and I couldn't hear.
and then I found myself against the wall, with a knife against my throat. great.
he seemed to be thinking before he spoke, "Wade, isn't it? what are you doing here?" huh, I guess I was as famous here as I was with the Faeries, who knew?
"spying?" I tried, Celeano seemed to be the type of person who would dectect a lie before I even spoke.
"wrong answer," he hissed he called over one of his minions, "Fetch Brina," he said, "tell her we have her boyfriend I'll meet with her when you have her here," the minion was off in a flash. I couldn't help but notice the word he used, boyfriend. I smiled.
"Boyfriend? I said aloud.
Celeano looked as if I had said the answer to 2 +2 was -9.
“I’m holding you at knifepoint,” Celaeno told me. “You’re in trouble with one of the biggest gangs in Daya and the rest of the US. And you’re excited because I think you and Brina are cute together.”
I shrugged, then thought of something, “I try to appreciate the smaller things in life. By the way, doesn’t a ruler’s significant other get to be second in command?”
“What if you break up with them? And besides, my old boyfriend would be a terrible second in command. Our base would be in flames in half a second.” Celeano didn't seem pleased with my question.
I thought back to what Bri had said ealier about me setting a flame our gang “I feel like your ex and I would get along,” Wade commented, “Brina always tells me that.”
a girl inturpts us and tells Celeano that Bri is here. I try to swivil around the knife still pressed to my neck to see if I can find Bri. I did. and then I was wishing I didn't, she looked pretty angry.
Celeano took her aside and I could barely make out the exchange.
"I'll let you go this once, If..."
"if what Celeano," Bri retorted stealing a glance back at me, she glared.
"If you help me find my sister Eris."
"You promise not to kill me, my idiot over there, or ANY of my people, and you have yourself a deal." she didn't wait for Celeano to answer, instead she pushed past him and made her way to me.
"hey, so-"
she cut me off by wrapping her arms around me. I was surprised but followed suite. my hands just barely grazing her large wings. "you scared me," she finally said sincerity dripping in her voice. she broke free to look at me.
"I'm sorry-"
"I told you you'd be caught, you should just be glad I'm here."
"I am, I really, really am."
Alani~
The bell tinkles in an annoyingly cheery manner behind me as I leave the cafe. Evereything sounds too loud- cars honking, phones ringing, people talking, oblivious to the fact that my sister has just been kidnapped. Dad already left- I can't stand to think wnat would happen if someone else left my mom. Unfortunately, I haven't a clue where to start. And that's why I'm going to see Brina, leader of the Faeries.
Once the main street is behind me, I spread my grey, feathery, angel-like wings wide and take for the sky. The air smacks my face and rushes under the feathers on my wings. I streak past a flock of jet-black birds. But none of these thoughts register in my mind- I'm only focused on helping Miriam. I look down and see what I know to be the sercet entrance to the Faerie gang's headquarters. I lean foward and begin to descend.
Once I get inside, I have to travel down a long, echo-y hallways made of slick grey stone before I come to the real entrance to the depths of headquarters. Two Faeries stand gaurd, a man with bold, dark brown eyes and freckles, and a tall girl with short red hair (who's actually kinda cute).
"Hi there, I'm Brina's friend. I need her help. Maybe ya let me in?" I state sweetly, head cocked slightly. The two gaurds look at each other inquisitively, eyebrows raised.
"Terribly sorry, but Captain Brina's gone missing," deadpans the guy. My jaw drops. How bad can this day get?
"Where's she gone?" I ask urgently.
"No-one knows. She just left last night," says the girl. I let a frustrated breath escape from my lips.
"Any clues as to where she might've gone?" I ask, not even attempting to keep the impatience from biting into my words.
"She was annoyed with the Sirens last night, complainin' about 'em to me. Maybe... maybe she went to talk with them," theorizes the brown-eyed guy.
Great. usually I don't get mixed up with the Haries and Sirens, but it looks like I have to now. I sigh and swollow.
"Guess I'll go to the Sirens too," I say reluctantly.
