You lie down

You lie down

You lie down on your bed, opening up your favorite book to re-read for the twentieth time, when you hear a knocking on your house outside. Curious, you go to your window to see what the matter is. You see a kingfisher with a letter tied to its back pecking on your wooden wall, then flying in fromt of you expectantly. You open the window, and the bird flies in. You untie the letter and read its contents:

What an odd invite, you think to yourself. How could something be both superstition-centered and scientific? Were these people mad? And most importantly, why send such a superstition - centered letter on Friday the thirteenth?

~Alice~

Just my luck. I happened to get the worst codename ever. Why did I have to get the black cat name?

Dusk leaned over to me and whispered, “It isn’t all that bad, Alice. It is just a name. I am sure that this won’t be the worst time ever just because you happened to quote-on-quote be a superstition. No one will even notice you after a while.”

“Easy for you to say. You are just a robin. I will get laughed at so much...” Dusk tried to reassure me some more, but now I was lost in my own thoughts. I know that having a superstition as a nickname is ok, and maybe even good. Dusk is right. Nobody will judge me for a name....hopefully...

But why do I still have a bad feeling about this?

Dusk said, “I think it is almost time to go. Isn’t this exciting? You have always wanted to go to somewhere like this?” Probably in an attempt to cheer me up. I nodded and made a soft smile. I took out my book and tried to hide my silly worries away.

Nihil~

Okay, so first I was Lady Mantle, which I assume is a play on Lady's Mantle, a long-lasting and beautiful plant. But now I'm Elder, apparently, another plant. Elder has small white flowers and intensely green leaves, a color scheme I appreciate very much.

I must admit, with every passing mention of it, I know I must never reveal my position when it comes to this 'Black Cat.' I don't want to say no, but I cannot afford to say yes... Something tells me that the Black Cat is associated with the murderer, whoever that may be. I deduce I will probably not last long here, but since when have I ever? I do dearly hope they have never heard of the Shadow  a  ker A s oci

On yet another note, I have the feeling I know who Estella O. is. Her 'Don't you know what people do on ski lodges?

People die.' line is familiar... But I can't place my finger on it. Still, I can't die, but I doubt I'll live. Oh well, such is the dicefall.

Ah, is that true that they messed that up? Very sorry for the confusion. You are Lady Mantle, not Elder. Again, I apoligize.

“I get a crow? For Poseidon’s sake, I’m a CROW?!” Naomi gave me a slight smile and said, “Well, at least they got your squawking right!” Everyone near started to laugh, and I could feel my face go hot. “Rude.”

I walked over to Kanib, shaking one over her seven tentacles. She smiled and talked to me about the superstition on CROWS. If you see two crows together, it symbolizes good luck. If you see one crow, you’re sure to get bad luck. If you see THREE crows together, someone in your family will die.

Naomi

“What’s a marsh crake?” Everyone asked me. I replied with opening a page in National Geographic. “For those of you who don’t know how to read English, it says that a Marsh Crake is a bird Native to New Zealand,” I said. Murmurs filled the air, almost accusing me of the superstition on Marsh Crakes.

If you hear a marsh crake over your left shoulder, bad fortune will come your way...

(IMPORTANT MESSAGE, MADDOX IS ACTUALLY MY CHARRIE I’M SO SO SORRY)

Maddox

“Greaaaaaat.” My superstition resembles the devil coming to drag you down to the underworld. “Avoid me if you can,” I said, walking away. “Hey, wait!” I turned to see Sparrow, hopping along behind me. “Oh, so you want to be possessed, huh?” She started to walk away, just as everyone else does.

“A bubble?” My sister laughed so hard she acually cried. I know the superstition about bubbles, AND I DON’T LIKE IT. EVER HEARD OF ROMANCE?! So, if bubbles stick to the side of a cup, romance is in the air, and each large bubble represents a kiss. “WHY DO I GET THIS ONE,” I screamed at Wren. “Chill out, dude. It’s just a keycard, right?” “Sure.” My sister thinks I’m a flirt already, because I’m already really bubbly. “THIS IS TORTURE!!!”

Atlantis

“I have a raindrop, so that means... I HAVE SOMETHING ABOUT ROMANCE?! EWWWWWWW!!!!” Let’s just say that I screamed for a while...

La’Crosse

“Yay! A white butterfly! That means good fortune!” I smiled, walking over to Fleet to thank her for all of the picturings. I opened my phone, grabbed my headphones, sat down, and turned on my 80’s music on shuffle. (I’m acually doing that in real life) “Hiya, La’Crosse!” I took out my headphones, and let Nyx listen. What a beautiful day!

After that ordeal, the two ladies led the guests inside the cabin. Right before they were all about to enter, Alice pointed out that the size of the cottage would not be nearly enough to support all of the patrons. A great deal of panic rose in the visitors, but Estella simply chuckled and opened the door. It revealed a wooden staircase leading downwards. At this sight, the visitants rushed down, eager to see what lay ahead. "What lay ahead" could be described as the most expensive, intricate lab one could ever see. The fellows gawked at their surroundings.

"Haha, look at that funny bird!" WILDCARD boomed. She was pointing to a bird that could fit in the palm of your hand, if not for the two feet tall feathers sticking out of its backside. WILDCARD bent down to pet it.

 "DON'T TOUCH IT!"

The girl's head snapped up as the bird was snatched out of her hands.

"Yeesh, you should really ask before doing that!" The lab worker who had cried held the bird close to his chest, "You could have hurt the guy! It's hard enough keeping him alive as it is."

 "Why?" WILDCARD tilted her head.

"Well, he's... a failed experiment. Specifically, a fusion between a robin and a pea-"

"An EXPERIMENT?!" WILDCARD screeched, "You're experimenting on animals? You guys are MONSTERS!"

The entire lab fell silent, save for the whirs of the machines. The lab workers froze in their steps. WILDCARD glared at them, fury writhing in her soul. Estella, sighing deeply, strutted to the girls' side and placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Don't TOUCH me, you witch!" WILDCARD whipped away from Estella, "You probably don't even feel any remorse for what you've done! Do you have any emotions, or was this all just an act-"

"Careful what you say, Miss WILDCARD," Estella instructed, "Remember, you're not only speaking to me. You're speaking to the whole vacancy, and someone here may have it out for you for those words. And that person could be ready to kill."

"I don't care," WILDCARD glared at her, "I don't care what anyone thinks. Do you think I would in this situation? Animals are being TORTURED, and you want me to care about my reputation? I should've expected such an awful response from you, you clod!"

The workers gasped. Estella's mouth straightened, and the others could see her shaking.

"I will converse with you later," She extravagantly motioned to the guests, "We do have guests, after all! Come, everyone, let us finish this tour."

The tour continued as Estella had said, but WILDCARD was too disgusted to focus. WILDCARD did manage to take in a few things. For starters, there were waaayyy too many rooms. If the elevators, moving sidewalks, and escalators weren't in full supply there, it could've taken someone multiple weeks just to get to the swimming pool. However, there was one exception that Estella stressed intensely. No transports lead to the boy's or girl's sectors, conveniently located on opposite sides of the building. Only elevators lead to the heavily guarded entrances, and only when shown a fingerprint of a patron of the corresponding gender.

After the longest time, the tour finally ended. Wren helped each of the girls find their vacancies in the girl's sector. Poor WILDCARD was saved for last. Right before she could enter her room, Wren shook the sleepy AE's shoulder.

"Oh, about this room," she informed WILDCARD, "Remember to turn off your fan-"

WILDCARD sprinted into the room and slammed the door shut without a second thought.

"-or the door won't lock." Wren put her hands on her hips, "Rude."

I will be happy to continue! I enjoy making this very much, I was simply wondering if anyone still read it. I'm glad that I portrayed you well, Miss WILDCARD!

By the way, does ayone have any guesses for who I may be?

I am still reading this with delight!

I am not a good guesser, so that’s why I didn’t try. Besides, I don’t feel much motivation to try either. I can attempt to guess you if you want me to though.
