It's a regular

Chatterbox: Inkwell

It's a regular

It's a regular summer evening. You have your window open, and a faint but cool breeze blows in. Suddenly, the wind blows harder and colder, and a number of dried leaves and a white envelope blows in. You bend down to pick up the envelope and find, to your surprise, that it is closed with a medieval-looking wax seal. The seal bears an emblem of a dragon, curved around a tree. Inside is a letter.

Greetings, CBer:

If you are reading this letter, you have been invited to an exclusive trip. Our organization has found disturbances in an unknown mountain range. We mean to seek out this disturbance and study it; it appears to be a living species. Your assistance is crucial to this project. Though it is entirely at your discretion, we hope you choose to come. If you do so, please fill out the form attatched and leave it on your windowsill with this invitation. Regards,

Lady Saga Tremayne

As you open the envelope to look for the form, you find two pieces of paper. One is folded neatly and seems to be the same cream-colored paper that the invitation was written on. The other is slightlly crumpled and is made of a different paper. It's darker, and bears a water-stain in one corner. Of course, you open the crumpled one. It appears to be completely blank, but as you turn it this way and that, you notice faint and hastily scribbled lettering, reading: Help, CBer! You and the others must go to Lady Tremayne's "expedition," but you must only pretend to follow her orders. What she intends to trap and train is a wild beast, and one that must be protected. I am disguised, but I will give you a message when the time comes.

As soon as you finish reading the note, it crumbles away to dust in your hands. The other paper is a the form:

Okay that's it. Sorry it was long! I'll post my character a little later. The first, oh, 12 or 13 posts will get in (the number might change)

*Disclaimer: this is my first rp, so I'm probably going to make mistakes. I have literally no idea what I'm doing (I don't even know if this rp is going to succeed), so correct me if necessary.*

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry.  I said I would post soon and that didn’t happen.  I got busy and never got the chance.  I’ll try and post a section tomorrow.  Thank you for being patient with me.

~ Trillium ~

Trillium looked at the wall, “Pass Me Eneo” she read.  That made no sense she thought.  She was sure it was something important, why would someone go to the bother of carving the words on the wall if it wasn’t?  She searched for an answer.  What was it, a different language?  A puzzle?  Trillium stepped forward and traced her fingers along the elaborate lettering.

Suddenly Belle asked “where’s Megumi?”, her voice was worried.  Her question was met with silence. Faces’ were searched.  Megumi was not there.

”She’s probably outside the door” Fiona said and strode towards the door through which they had come.  She grabbed the handle and twisted, nothing happend.  She rattled it, nothing.  Fiona turned the group, “we’re locked in” she said, fear in her voice.

There was stunned silence.  Locked in, Megumi gone, strange words on a wall.  What had they got in to?

“Hang on” said Trillium, sounding startled, “there’s something here.”  Everyone looked at Trillium, she was still feeling the letters.  “This letter — it’s loose”,  Trillium wiggled the O.  “It’s not moving!”, she wiggled harder and pulled.  “Uhg!”, she pushed — and the letter sank into the wall.  Trilllium jerked back from the wall, shocked.

Sorry again about the delay.  I hope this fits the story, Evergreen.  If it doesn’t we can ignore it.

Okay, this is going to be long. I didn't have time to edit but wanted to post it so it's probably going to be pretty bad.

Megumi-

A lot can happen in one second, as Megumi found out. She lay crumpled againt the bottom of the stairs, breathing heavily and fighting the tears that trickled down her face, for in this one there had been a catastrophe.

Perhaps that was a bit of an overstatement. But it certainly wasn't a good thing that the moment that the others went through the door and left the stairs pitch-black, she had fallen and crashed into the wall at the bottom of the stairs. Her right arm and leg had not fared well.

For the most part, her arm was okay. But her leg... Whenever she tried to move it to stand up, an overwhelming pain shot through it. She tried again, jostling it as litle as possible, and managed to stand on her left leg and lean against the wall. Something was under her foot.

A trapdoor. How big was this place? Megumi reached down clumsily to open it. There was the faint light of a torch gone to ember illuminating a ladder. Megumi knew she couldn't climb the ladder, which was a pity, but she grabbed the torch and blew on it until it ignited. An orangish light filled the room. Something glinted in the corner.

Hopping over and wincing, Megumi found a scuffed paper clip. Perfect.

She  lit her lanten and unbent the paper clip. There were two doors. Hadn't htere just been one? It didn't matter. Megumi didn't know how much longer she could stand with her leg throbbing. She heard voices. Some must have been the others, and one was so cold that it had to be Lady Tremayne's . She chose the door on the left, not wanting to be with the woman capturing animals for any longer than necessary. The doorknob rattled. "We're trapped!" Trapped? Well, have patience, Megumi thought. I'm almost done.

She stopped just as the lock gave in. If she opened the door, even if she slipped in, it would be noticeable. She thought she had heard her name mentioned, and wondered if they had noticed she wasn't there. They would ask how she got in. She would have to explain. She couldn't stand much longer. Go in... stay out. Go in... Stay out. Go in.... Stay out.

They'd probably come searching for her soon.  If they were trapped, surely they'd try the door again.I'll let them find out on their own, she decided. By then I'll be far away. But at that moment, pain jolted through her leg again. She collapsed.

Everything is fine! @Peregrine your post fits just perfectly. Except I was maybe thinking they had to say "Open Sesame" out loud before the letter unlocked? If you don't mind. I hope this post is ok. @Blackfooted Bobcat if you'd rather something else happen to Megumi, just disregard this post and I'll rewrite it. possible long post alert.

BELLE ~

There was a loud grinding creak as the letter O sank into the wall, and the whole wall slid sideways to open the passageway. Holding up her lantern, Belle could see a door at the other end. "Woah..."

"What now?" She said, turning to the others, her voice cracking slightly. There was an awkward pause. "We can't just leave Megumi."

"The door's locked from the outside, though," Fiona said logically. "We can't get out, but she should be able to get in..."

"Or we could split up?" Belle suggested. "Some of us wait to see if Megumi gets through, and the others go to the door?" She immediately rethought that. "Actually, no, because whenever they do that in a movie something bad happens..."

She gritted her teeth. "Maybe we should move on. But I feel really bad about it." She thought for a moment. "Wait, does anyone have a piece of paper and a pen?"

A few moments later they went down the passage, having left a note behind for Megumi.  Bright light spilled through the crack between the stone floor and the edge of the door. To Belle's surprise, it was unlocked.

There was a collective gasp of awe. The door opened into a huge decagonal room, the ceiling a deep blue dome speckled with painted stars. A section of the roof slid away, forming a gap through which a giant viewing scope emerged. A projector sat on a wooden table near one end of the room. Several bookshelves leaned against the far walls, and velvet armchairs were clustered around a coffee table in the center of the room.

In one of the chairs sat Lady Tremayne. Antony stood behind her, an unmistakable smirk on his face as he watched the group enter the room.

Lady Tremayne clapped her hands. "Excellent! I knew such an intelligent collection as you would pass my test."

"Test?" Belle said, disgusted. "You mean you had Megumi separated from us just as a test?"

"Separated?" for a split second Lady Tremayne looked startled, then looked at Antony. "Note that down." She turned back at the group with a simpering smile. "Oh, don't you worry about that. Antony will see that your friend is all right. Now, come sit. We must talk."

Lady Tremayne clicked on the projector, casting an image of a magnificent black stallion, its mane and tail dripping water, onto the wall.

"So, children," she said. "What do you know about the kelpie?"

~

ok, survey question: should there be more codes/ciphers/puzzles in this rp?

so, I was thinking Lady Tremayne & co should be trying to capture some mythological creature? And they need children for some reason... (forgive me if this rp isn't completely planned out xD) I was thinking it should be a kelpie, because a) they're very cool b) slightly lesser-known creatures c) potentially very powerful, so Lady Tremayne would probably want it. But if you have any other ideas let me know.

There should DEFINATELY be more cyphers and puzzles! A kelpie would be cool.

I know I just posted, but I forgot to write something. Your post works fine. I'm not completely sure Megumi will go through the door because for all she knows you're still in there and her leg might be too injured. It's probably a fracture or something because broken would take too long to heal. Anyway, she'll probably struggle against being helped, looking at the charrie sheet. And I realized that I didn't say she could pick locks... But I'll just pretend I did because I already used it!

I dont exactly know if i got in, so ignore this if i didnt.

~Moon~

They slipped through a hidden door behind a staircase, throwing off their cloak and hiding it underneath a bucket. Then Moon straightened their uniform and crept out into the hallway, hugging the walls and staying hidden. On the way, they grabbed a mop and bucket from another hidden closet and hurried toward the Lady's secret chamber-which wasnt a secret to Moon. They opened the servant's door and hurried inside, already starting to mop. the Lady glanced at them quickly, then turned back to the group of children sitting at the table. "Now, children, tell me what you know about the Kelpie." Moon froze, and then started to mop again. thank GOODNESS they had decided to come 'clean' here. A Kelpie... Moon had only heard of them. One of the most powerful mystical animals... Moon wanted it. So badly... if the Lady had it, who knew what she would do? Moon, on the other hand... well, they didnt exactly know what to do with it either. Moon swept the mop across the floor, tilting their head, listening in to the conversation. After just 15 minutes, they knew everything they had wanted to know about the mysterious kelpie... they continued to mop, moving closer to the table. Their mind drifted away from the circular room. With each rythmatic swipe of the mop, their head rang with one question: What do you do with a powerful, mystical creature?

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

yesh, i skipped the actual conversation since i wanted you guys to make that up.

cant wait for the next post!

A kelpie sounds good.  I think they are cool mythical creatures.  Perhaps they need children because this kelpie lives at the bottom of a fairy pond and only children can enter the fairy world?  Just an idea, so you can ignore it!

Yes, we should definitely have more codes!  I apologize about missing the Open Sesame part.  I totally forgot it.  Maybe there should be several codes our characters have to solve that add up to make one final sentence/poem/song that unlocks something important?

Blackfooted Bobcat, I know Megumi is really shy and doesn’t really trust people.  But I was thinking Trillium and Megumi could gradually gain trust in eachother and become good friends.  Maybe Trillium could help Megumi wtih her leg in some way and that could start their trust in eachother? You can say no, I won’t be upset.
