The girl lived

The girl lived in a cottage in the woods, at the end of a narrow path. The villagers traded whispers saying she was a witch, a demon, a changeling. At first when she went into the village to get supplies, children shoved her, threw mud on her. But when all she did in response was smirk at them, they ceased, scared though they would never admit it.
The girl lived alone in a cottage at the end of a knobby little footpath. She was an outsider in the village, mocked and feared.
Sigourney in a red tunic walked a footpath to the village where she was heralded by flurrying whispers and glares. She smiled sweet with a tinge of mockery and bought her cloth and parchment. They left her alone, mostly. She enjoyed the solitude. Good thing too because her only companion was a ginger cat Enola, even though she was only fourteen and 'much too young to live by herself,' according to village gossip ladies. Well she fared fine-last century, she was the only survivor of a vicious attack by a rival clan.
Leave me alone, I'm fine. Thank you very much.
