Forest Role Play

Forest Role Play

In the middle of a huge sea of trees lies a tiny town.

The forest used to be called Silva Vivus Umbrare, which, when translated from the old language, means the Forest of Living Shadows, but the people just called it the Woods. Still, the forest lived up to its old name.

The trees moved during the night, uprooting themselves and gliding across the earth to a new spot. Sometimes the guards on duty at night would catch a glimps of an elk or deer gliding through the trees with a tall, graceful figure on its back. Occasionally, a larger creature slipped past the guards and stole away a cow or pig or goat.

But even with all of the dangers which surrounded them, the people of the town were proud to say that through the half-decade of the existance of the town, they have never lost a person to the woods or to any creature living in the woods.

Until now.

This year, during the Cilana festival, a time in the spring when the people cut down all the trees which have grown at or moved to the edge of the town, three young children disappeared.

Alana, an eight-year-old girl with frizzy red hair and a quick smile, Jakob, a serious five-year-old boy with sunburned skin from too many naps in the open, and Zena, a talkative seven-year-old girl with intense blue eyes. Their disappearence stopped the Cilana festival and threw the town into chaos.

The townspeaple knew that the three would never have gone off into the Woods by themselves, for the fear of the forest was too deep set in everyone, so the townspeople could only think that they had been kindnapped or stolen. Although the townspeaple were frightened and scared and the parents of the children were frantic, only a few people dared to go out into the woods.

You, along with a small group, have decided to venture into the forest to see if the children can still be found. Your bravery has given the town new hope, and the townspeaple have provided you with weapons, tools, and horses. You will leave on the new moon.

I'll post my character once this thread shows up, and I'll start the roleplay on Saturday, July 25.

Other notes: Don't be afraid to move the story forward! Feel free to introduce your favorite kinds of magical creatures, write memorable settings in the forest, and put the charries in danger!
If anyone decides to drop out, which I hope will not happen, consider putting up one last post to take care of your character, whether to have them return to the village or be trapped somewhere or die. (Wow, that was slightly depressing!)

Write you soon!

Demi~

When no one answered my question, I stood up to go get some more fire wood. As I bent down to grab a small twig, I heard a earsplitting, bloodcurdling scream. I straightened and ran back to the campfire. Jeannie had fainted! Oh my! I thought. Luckily Zander had caught her before she could fall to the hard ground.

"Is she ok?" Macey asked, walking over to Jeannie.

I sat down next to her and felt her pulse. "She will be fine...I think. We'll have to wait and see. I'll stay with her in ca-" I stopped. Zander had drawn his sword and was walking menacingly towards Macey. What is he doing???  I wondered. But then he walked past Macey and jabbed a little creature that was behind her.

I looked around and with horror realized that there were many of these weird creatures. I grabbed the nearest stick, and everyone execpt Jeannie started fighting off the beasts. Caston explained what they were and what they did so we somewhat knew what to expect. A Hollowface came at me with full speed and it knocked the wind out of me! I doubled over in pain from the force.

"Are you all right?" Zander shouted from several feet away.

I couldn't breath just then so I just nodded.

"Demi?" I guess he hadn't seen me nod. I used a nearby tree to stand up. After taking some time to breath deeply I shouted back.

"Yes! I'm all right thank you!" That was a lie of course. I felt very light-headed and so I sat back down. There were only a couple more monsters that I could remember seeing before I closed my eyes and either passed out or fell asleep.

Bradleys POV

"Zander." I said, walking towards him.

"Bradley, go. Be with them. And not me." Zander eeplied, still walking away from everyone.

"Zander, listen to me." I said, jogging to catch up with him.

I satrted to put my hand on his shoulder, when he grabbed my hand a turned around sharply.

"Listen to me, Bradley. Leave me alone. If you don't, you'll regret it." He said.

I was about to respond, when I was grabbed from behind by a 25 foot tall creature.

"ZANDER!!!! HELP ME!!!!!" I screamed, as I was dragged away.

"Bradley!! Zander, DO SOMETHING!!!!" Macy screamed.

I tried to fight it off, but it held me too tightly. I stopped trying as it dragged me to my doom, wherever it was.

Zander's POV:

I unsheathed my sword again, and charged toward the monster.

I sliced the hand that was holding Bradley, then tossed him a sword.

•••••A Little While Later•••••

After what seemed like an eternity, I gave the Shadowbeast one final stab.

I looked over at the rest of the group, who was just as exhausted as I was.

Apparently there were more Murkbeings hiding in the nearby creek, that attacked the rest of the group while Bradley and I were fighting the Shadowbeast.

"Okay... that's enough for one day..." Iyara huffed, picking up Jeannie and walking towards the inn.

"Goodnight!" Leilani said, picking up Demi and following Iyara.

I really hope they're okay. They'd probably regain consciousness tomorrow.

"Zander-" Macy started.

"Goodnight everyone!" I announced, with a slight snappish undertone. "See you in the morning!"

I retired to my tent, and was maybe just a little satisfied when I heard Macy storm off.

After ten minutes, I was fast asleep.

•••••The Next Morning•••••

I woke up before any of the others, and sat by the fire pit we made last night.

I couldn't help but worry about Zaida and the others. Sure, they'd most likely be fine in the village, but I couldn't help but feel a bit... uneasy.

I sighed, shaking away those thoughts as someone approached me.

I stand there shocked. That really hit me hard.

Bradley follows him but Zander keeps brushing it off. That is before something attacks and grabs Bradley.

That snaps me out of my trance, "Bradley!! Zander do something!" I shout. I don't hesitate and start running after the monster.

It's a Shadowbeast. No one knows what they do. No one has lived.

The beast ran off into the forest. Off of our path.

I grab my horse and hop on before taking off after it.

"MACEY!" Someone yells.

I ignore him. I'm not useless. I'm not dead weight. I can save people.

I hear another horse behind me, "what do you want?" I ask. It's probably Sebatian or Demi.

"I'm not letting you go after that thing alone."

I almost fall off of my horse. It's Zander.

"Why? Because I'm useless? because someones life is on the line?" I mutter not looking at him. I keep following the trail that the beast left behind.

So....... IDEA!

@Sammy Everlast shall we ship Macey and Zander? Ig could be like a "I hate you!" sort of thing and then one saves the other multiple times and then like a "I have your back" thing!!!! If not that's totally fine but I think it would be cute!

@Moonlight

Sorry! I didn't see your post because I was writing mine! But your idea is great!

Zander's shipped with Demi already, but honestly, I don't see it working out.

If Demi's CBer and Emekittycon Kitten are okay with it, I have an idea!

What if Zander has a crush on Demi, but eventually he realizes he really likes Macy.

Also, what if Bradley becomes friends with Zander and also likes Demi, but keeps it a secret because his friend likes her.

So basically in the end Macy and Zander end up together, and Demi and Bradley end up together.

It keeps things interesting, and I can't stop thinking how cute Demi and Bradley would be together.

So, what'd you guys think?

That's a great idea! I also liked @Moonlight's idea and thought Zander and Macey would be best together!

I didn't realize that he was already shipped but  That's a really good idea! As long as everyone is okay with that of course! I can alter my post to fit yours so here is that!

~Macey

I storm off. I had hoped we could talk about it but he is just being a child. BAcka t the inn I head to my room immediately, "Night" I say to the girls.

I wake up early and head out to explore the town a bit. As I walk around I notice that it is too quiet. There is literally nobody. No animals, no plants, and no people. I decide to head back to the inn, wherever that it.

I thought this was a small town but I can't find the inn. At all. I am lost. hoplessley lost.

~Leilani~

After all that drama, we finally made it to the village alive, although not all of us were awake. After Jeannie and Demi had been asleep for nearly four hours straight, we resorted to the tried-and-true trick: Cold Water!

Splash!

"AUGH COLD COLD COLD!"

Shivering, but awake; Demi and Jeannie were led to their rooms to change out of their wet clothes. The rest of us sat in the tavern below the inn, eating stew and not really talking. Every once in a while someone would try to strike up conversation, but it always faded out after a few minutes. Eventually we just sat in silence.

Soon everyone was finished with their stew, and still no one was talking. It really bothers me when there are this many people together and no one is saying anything.

"So." All eyes turned to me. "What do we do now?"

"I dunno." Zander sighed. "I guess we go back to the forest?"

"We'll have to," said Sebastian firmly. "That's where the kids are, right?"

Everyone nodded, but halfheartedly. The forest was big, and the kids...weren't.

"Maybe we can ask the peope here," I said. "Maybe they've seen something. They have to have seen something." I knew I was really trying to convince myself,  but maybe it was true. After all, we were in Silva Vivus Umbrare. With dragoncats and itrixes, what couldn't  happen?

Hey everyone, sorry I've been gone! We had this huge storm as a result of hurricane Isaias and the power's been out, but we finally got the generator working so I'm back for now.

@Dolphin, I might be open to shipping Azi with Iyara, but two things. One, I did already say that I would ship Azi with Caston, but Caston's CBer hasn't posted yet so I guess that probably isn't happening anymore, since I'm not going to ship my character with an inactive character. And two, I think Azi is like 3 years older than Iyara, so if it were going to work they might have to be a bit closer in age. I think for now maybe we could just have them be friends, but maybe it can develop into something more once we see how this RP progresses. Thanks for asking :)

Azi ~

Three hours later, and I'm still shaking. So many magical creatures, dead, and all because we couldn't understand them in time. If not for humans extradordinary capacity to hate, those creatures would have wanted nothing to do with us. It's us humans who are the monsters now.

Ben, the ibrix I picked up earlier, hisses and leaps onto my head. He glares at the others around me, but it's oddly comforting. Ben doesn't know who I am or what I've done, and he doesn't care. He may be grumpy and ill-tempered most of the time, but he's protecting me, even if he doesn't know it. He was the only one around to see the few tears that slipped down my cheek the first time I was alone after the fight we just had.

"I don't feel so good," I mutter, as chills take over me. But no one hears. The events of the past day leave me with a bad, sticky feeling, and I know now that it's time to say something about what just happened.

"None of you listened to me," I say quietly, as we finish eating our stew in the tavern under the inn.

"What do you mean, we didn't-" Macey begins, but I cut her off.

"No, you didn't listen to me, none of you, while we were fighting those creatures. I was trying to tell you. Anyone who knows anything about magical creatures knows that shadowbeasts, murkbeings, and hollowfaces can track feeling of hatred. Caston told you that. So why were you trying to fight them? The best way to fight one of those creatures is to not fight it at all. Fighting with hatred only earns you more hatred in return. Thank god no one got hurt, but with all the arguing we've been doing, it's only a matter of time. And those creature," I continue, my voice breaking a little, "did not deserve to die."

"They were attacking us," snaps Sebastian.

"I-" I break off, because it's true, because they couldn't have known, because they were only trying to defend themselves, but still. "That's the problem. When people don't see magical creatures for what they are, because they aren't so different from us. Sebastian, Macey, and Zander, if you keep fighting you will only attract more unwanted attention. We are small enough that we can make decisions as a group. We don't need a leader, at least not yet, and if we did it should be someone chosen by the group and no one else."

"You may believe that all magical creatures are just cute fuzzy little animals who don't ever want to hurt us, but I lost my leg to a manticore attack. My sister is missing and it's probably because of them. So don't tell me to trust some monster just because you like animals more than people!" Sebastion shouts.

My eyes sting and I look away, trying not to show how much that hurt. I'm quiet for a while, trying to hold back memories, but just before they dismiss me from the conversation, I speak, still shaky. "I lost my sister too. A hollowface killed her when I was seven. And no human ever stopped to try and help me or see if I was ok. I'm on this mission because I don't want that to happen to anyone else, but I also think that unless people learn to understand creatures, we'll never be able to stop this."

Before anything else goes too wrong and anyone can speak, I get up quickly from the table and head back to my room.

Wow, reading that made me feel really sad. That's such a great piece of writing, Gecko!

Jeannie~

Once she'd woken up, Jeannie's head hurt. And her arms, legs, and pretty much her entire body. "What just happened?" she asked Leilani and Demi groggily. They exchanged glances. "Um. You might want to ask someone else? Like maybe Bradley? Sebastian, Macy, and Zander should definitely be left alo-"

Demi broke off as shouting from outside grew louder. Jeannie stood up, aches gone- mostly- and curiousity overtaking her. Exiting the tent, a screaming match met her eyes. She stepped backwards in fright.

"What in the world is going on?" she asked loudly. The camp fell silent. Azi was leaning against a tree, glaring daggers at them all. Sebastian was also shooting bad vibes around. Zander and Macy both had crossed arms, but they actually didn't seem that angry.

"Hey Jeannie!" Bradley's voice wafted through a tent. "Um, you probably shouldn't..." "Well, too bad, I am," Jeannie broke him off. "Now, can you two stop yelling at each other for fun?" she demanded.

Macy and Zander exchanged confused looks. "Never mind. I mean, can you just stop yelling at each other? If you have to act like that, please go away and do it somewhere else. Thanks!" Jeannie asked sarcastically, shooing the two of them out of camp.

"And what's up with you two?" she wondered thoughtfully. "Well, Azi likes magical creatures- a lot- so he probably had a soft spot for those. Sebastian, it seems, can't resist picking a fight and so... no, that doesn't make sense. Care to explain, anyone?"

Jeannie was half talking to herself, but Azi still answered. "None. Of. Them. Listened. Caston tried to tell them that the creature can track feelings of hate but they were arguing and fighting- even with each other," he said flatly.

"Yes, but magical creatures cannot be trusted! They're probably behind the disappearances, one of which is my sister, and even Azi should know, as one of those monsters killed his sister-" Sebastian started angrily, but Jeannie stopped him with her hand, alarm in her eyes, but Azi jumped up anyhow.

"Don't you dare mention her," he said dangerously. Jeannie covered her face with her  hands. "Can we just calm down, please? Remember how they find us?" Azi and Sebastian fell silent. "And Sebastian. Stop being so nasty! You're picking a fight with Macy, picking a fight with Azi- although I understand that wasn't really your fault- and I can get it if you want to save them, but-"

"No, you don't get it. She was my sister. My sister. Do you hear me?" Sebastian stood up without noticing and got in Jeannie's face. Jeannie stepped back and stood taller, interrupting before he could continue. "Yes, I do get it. Do you know who I am? I am Jean-Elisabeth Lucas, and do you know who my best friend is? Alana Lucas. And do you know who is also missing? Alana Lucas. So yes I do understand and don't you dare say you're better than us because worse things have happened to you! Azi's sister died, you hear? Don't even try to use that against him! I'm sorry your sister's missing but you can't just use that as a tool for your arguments!"

Jeannie had also stood up, and her face was bright red. She was nearly shouting as her voice broke and she turned on heel and walked away to find Seafoam... the only one who would understand.~

Sorry if I used anyone's character's too much (Azi, Macy, Zander, Bradley, etc.), didn't mean to!

-Ash-

Ash watched Jeannie walk away. Something had snapped, no, a lot of people had snapped and lashed out back there. Ash's smile slid off his face.

"I'm going to go," Sebastian said awkwardly.

There was silence all around. Sebastian walked away slowly, Azi staring blankly at him as he left. Zander and Macy looked around, seeming to come to a silent conclusion. "We should leave them alone for now," Macy said, "let's go get something to eat."

As they left, Demi tugged on Ash's coattail. "What?" Ash asked.

"Um, I . . . um, I don't want to seem like, presumptious or anything, but you're kind of the oldest, and I don't want Jeannie to get hurt . . . could you maybe go check on her? Not if you don't want to or anything!" Demi said hurriedly.

"Of course, I'll go," Ash said, turning back to where Jeannie stood still with her horse.

Ash approached Jeannie carefully, sitting down next to her. She was so small, Ash was as tall as her sitting down. She was so strong.

She seemed strong. Ash looked at her closer. She didn't look strong now, just fragile, just twelve, with something broken. Broken because Alana was gone.

"Hey, Jeannie," Ash said gently, "Do you want a cookie?"

"No," Jeannie said, her voice cracking.

"We're going to find Alana," Ash said, not as a reassurance, but as a statement, "the woods are finite. Iyara can tell you that. We'll find her. We'll find everyone that was lost."

Including you. And Azi. And Sebastian, Ash added silently, his words hanging in the air. They were just as lost and alone as the three children.

"What if we don't," Jeannie said with a shaky voice.

"There's no if. We will find them," Ash said.

Jeannie looked at Ash for the first time. She wasn't crying. Her eyes were just empty. "Okay," she mumbled.

"Jeannie, look at me," Ash said, as Jeannie turned away again.

Jeannie looked at Ash. "It's okay to be sad," he said, "you don't have to always be so strong."

Jeannie gave something like a bitter smile.

Ash pressed a cookie into her hand. "If you want to be alone, I'll leave," he said.

And it was silent.
