Ask my D&D

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Ask my D&D

Ask my D&D characters and racoon questions!

This was inspired by Sammy E.'s ask my OCs thread. Since I love roleplaying my D&D characters, plus made an awesome racoon yesterday for an RPG I decided to do something like that.

So, just ask questions to them. List of characters:

Hiro

Althaea Sianodel

Cora Bree Underbough

Hamlet (a racoon)

Okay, time to introduce yourselves. I formatted them differently for you.

*Hamlet pushes in front of everyone else*

I am Hamlet and I joined the Los Angelos car race so that I could finally have glory! No more will my father brag about the ziplining, my mother about rock climbing, my older sister about motercycling, my older brother about skydiving, my other older sister about wrestling, even my baby brother about riding on paper airplanes without my joining in!

*Cora rolls her eyes*

-Nice monolougue. And why is a racoon talking to me and me talking back? and participating in car races?

Why are you so short?

-I'm a halfling! And your one to speak.

*Hiro interrupts*

Don't insults each other.

*Hiro starts writing on his arm with magical ink*

-Anyway . . . Hi, my name is Cora. I aspire to be a hero and I'm, like, the coolest person in the world. And I made Blyx happen! Not Rowala, though.

*Cora sighs*

I am Hiro, and I seek to do good in the world. And Saffron is amazing. You can't lie around her.

*Hiro pats the deer standing next to him and you also notice that there are ten cats around his feet. I interupt.*

Okay, Althaea, how about you?

*Althaea raises an eyebrow*

Why do you think you deserve to know that information?

-Well, someones rude.

Oh well. Anyways, you can ask them questions!

*high five* I play D&D too! Hey, maybe we could use this as a character cafe type thing...? It's your thread, of course, but that might be a fun idea. My characters could certainly use some development.

~*kicks down door* YAAAAAH!

+Be reasonable and use your words, Gash.

-Pfft, good luck reasoning with an orc, Brynnis.

~ I'M A HALF-ORC!

-Whatever.

~Aw, shut it, Lithoniel, you're not even in a campaign yet!

-The operating word in that sentence is YET, orc.

~HALF-ORC!

+Guys, you're embarrassing us in front of the cool heroes. *turns to FF's characters* It's nice to meet some people who actually know which end of a Greataxe you cut with, haha!

-HEY!

+*ignoring Gash* It seems you've all been in a few battles, eh? What's the most difficult creature you've fought?

Hey, my Zone of Truth deer, Saffron is here, and so are (Feline Fantasy has to look up character sheet) Mossy, Papaya, Cinnamon, Mistletoe, Vannila, Cacoa, Mandarin, Aloe Vera, and Mint. We're all in range, so make a wisdom save.

*I roll some dice*

-Mwahahahaha! 18! I can still lie *grins*

Ugh. 7. plus my wisdom save bonus, that's . . . 11. DC 15.

Hey- what's a wisdom save?

*Hiro looks at Hamlet's Crash Pandas stats (Alacracrity 1, Chutzpah 4, Feircness 2, Rotundity 3)

Uh . . . nevermind.

Anyways, the hardest battle I have been in is probably one against four assasins (Hiro is level nine, Cora and Altheae three, Hamlet doesn't have a level). One of our players was knocked unconcsious in the first round, so I healed him. Those nasty assasins -- I had to add several things onto my list because if them

-I have never been in a hard battle! Well, there was that nasty half orc dude. I hate him. He claimed plus, he claimed that Rowan and Kiala weren't dating when they TOTALLY were! (yes, Cora is that annoying fandom member who ships literally everyone)

The DM only through pointless battles at us which I coiuld literally just walk past.

-But -- you can't do that! I wouldve fought, and looked cool doing it.

*Hiro begins scribbling something on his arm*

I haven't yet been in a battle, ecxpt for metaphorical ones with mhy family bragging and me not getting to join in. But no longer, for I shall win the Los Angelos car race!

*Clears throat* So, anyways, Agent Winter, it's cool that you play too. It would be fun if our characters could meet eachother and we could make a little roleplay wih them hanging out but we should start by just describing how they look because that's the most obvious thing about them.  What are the strangest things your characters have done or the strangest scenarkos they have been in? Due to the long amount of time that I have played him, Hiro has been through . . .  quite a few.

I INSPIRED SOMEONE!?!?! (*^ワ^*)

Who's most likely to light their house on fire while trying to make tea?

*Hiro scribbles on arm with ink: "DO not light houses on fire when making tea, or any other time.*

Probably Cora.

-What do you mean? I am way too cool!

Yah, right. I wouldn't. Even more might die.

- Okay, Ms.creepy.

How do I make tea?

Ooh, can I bring my D&D characters? (None of them are actually in campaigns, but I enjoy making  characters anyway.)

I suppose I should introduce myself? My name is Tess of Llira. I'm human (clearly) and an aspiring monk.

My name is... Amber Torrun. I'm a dwarf and a musician. Would you care to come closer and listen to my music? It's not like I'll steal your money or anything.

(This character is actually a changeling named Fie. Amber Torrun is one of their identities. :D)

Hey! No spoiling my fun!

*Sigh* Anyway, I'm Leshanna Sorennodel, a wood elf ranger. If you need any help, feel free to ask! Althaea, are you an elf as well? Your name is very pretty!

submitted by Kitten, Daydreaming
(August 5, 2020 - 1:37 pm)

Sure, you can bring them in!

-Hey, I'm a monk too. Monks are cool!

What's a changeling? (I actually don't know either)

Yes. I am an elf. Thank you.

Okay, if we want to roleplay, Agent Winter or Kitten, here:

Your wandering with your party through a dense forest, trying to find a place to camp. You stumble into a sudden clearing. In the center, there is a campfire which a young halfling with light-ish brown skin, bright green eyes and blue and yellow robes is stoking. Her straight, dark hair is pulled back in a ponytail and she doesn't seem at all nervous around the frlaims almost licking her wrist. A middle-aged man clad in heavy armor who looks almost Dumbledore-ish appears to be scolding her. He has a deer next to him and ten cats swarming around his feet. A bit farther away, just within reach of the fires warmth with the glowing embers casting dramatic lighting on her long, elven face is a woman clad with expensive-looking cloaks and scarfs, several of which were a dark, deep purple. She seemed aspart from the rest of the group, colder, less naive.

I think I'm gonna leave Hamlet out of this roleplay because he's not a D&D character but you can still ask him questions.

(August 5, 2020 - 2:12 pm)

Haha, I have so many different characters. Who do I pick to ask questions? Well, I'll start with these two, at least. *snaps fingers* These are-

*singing* Alexander Hamilton! My name is Alexander Hamilton!

No, it's not. Be quiet.

*singing louder* I don't caaaare what they're going to say!

Shut your beak, or I swear I'll-

Song and Mayhem. An excellent example of why two good charisma scores do not necessarily make two good friends.

Hello there! If you don't mind, I'd like to join in. I have a few questions!

/So do I!/

These two are Kalara Ilphelkiir and her son, Aymar. They aren't really D&D characters so much as OCs that were built using D&D mechanics. So, do you guys want to ask some questions?

Nope. Not really.

Tell me why! Sing a song!

Hmm, if I'm not mistaken, Song wants to know if any of you are musicians. She's a kenku, you see, and can only communicate by repeating what she's heard before.

/I have a question! Do you guys think schools should give homework over the weekends? I don't but my teachers seem to./

(August 6, 2020 - 1:08 pm)

*Looks over group* nope. I don't think we've got any musicians here.

-What's homework?

Yes.

Probably, because it helps educate them

-Probably not, sounds boring.

(Quick request before I let my characters back in-- I know I'm going to forget which character is which, so could you guys put a little reminder in your posts, like this? Tess of Llira, Fie, Leshanna Sorennodel; Thanks!!)

I'm not a changeling! How dare you accuse me of such a thing?

*Sighs* A changeling is a kind of shapechanger, like a doppelganger. They can change their appearance at will.

Hi Song! I'm a musician, too. I don't have any instruments, though, since I'm so poor. Could you share yours with me?

Just warning you, last time someone shared their instrument with Fie, they stole it and sold it to buy drinks.

If you keep spoiling their scams, they're not going to get anywhere, you know.

If I *don't* keep spoiling their scams, they'll probably end up doing something that harms someone, intentionally or not. I'm not about to let that happen.

I suppose that's understandable.

Do you guys want to answer Aymar's question? Should teachers assign homework over the weekend?

Of course. At my monastery, we had classes seven days a week. I think it's silly to give students the weekends off at all.

Wow, that sounds awful! I think teachers should give students as much freedom as possible, so absolutely NOT.

Whatever the teachers think best for the students' safety and well-being.

(Before I submit- I saw Feline Fantasy's CB D&D thread, and Darkling's D&D discussion thread, and I thought I might as well respond while I already had a comment about D&D. People have definitely tried to do D&D on the CB before, and at least while I was here, they haven't gotten very far- the logistics of posting character sheets and explaining the rules to people who are new to D&D and, of course, the logistics of actually playing were kind of difficult. I think something more reasonable would maybe be doing a D&D-based RP... not that I'm guaranteeing that I'd be able to commit to something like that.)

(August 6, 2020 - 3:44 pm)

Huh. I suppose.  I didn't know that. I was thinking that someone who didn't know how to play probably wouldn't, not to be ecxlusive but because it would be too hard to explain all the rules without the books (I read the players handbook to learn) and it would be best if they started in a different campagin anyway. I was thinking if maybe we organized it enough . . . oh well.

I'm not saying we couldn't try, it just might be difficult, in combat or other turn-based situations especially.

One way to make it faster would be to roll for future initiative during other turns so that the DM woulkdn't have to say to roll for initiatave and then wait for everyone to do it.
