Letters From Brooklyn

Do you like role playing in a very weird, possibly-not-a-roleplay-at-all kind of way? Do you enjoy writing letters? Does the idea of writing to made up characters sound appealing to you?

Join this thread!

It's, um, a weird idea. It's based off a book I started writing, though I really didn't get very far. Basically, I've made up some characters, and you guys can, uh, well, write letters to them. Like imaginary pen pals.

Gosh, I really hope someone does this...

Here's a summary:

One day, you get a very strange letter in the mail. It's from your new pen pal. It's your homework assignment to spend a whole month writing to them, with at least 3 letters sent and 3 received. But something's wrong with this letter. It's supposed to be from a school in France, but it's from Brooklyn, New York. And the kid writing to you is a little strange. The talk about things that don't make sense, like the sounds inanimate objects make.

One day, you realize that the person you're writing to has no record of ever exsisting. As the end of the month draws near, more questions reveal themselves. Where are these letters coming from? What are the sounds? And, most importantly, who is the person writing the letters?

Here are the "pen pals" you can select:

Viola, the first of the last (not to be confused with the CBer Viola?)

Eliza (AKA Eli), of Volume 86 (not related to Hamilton, sorry)

Mya, the youngest (no seriously she's 6)

Theo, a vague writer (he writes short, mysterious letters that leave you with more questions than answers)

That's all the characters I have right now, I got rid of one of the ones from my story. To join, fill out this quick form:

Pen Pal (you can pick one that someone else has if you want to):

Also, I'm using a fake name. I don't really know anything about Narnia XD You can guess me if you want to.

You don't have to, but you can! If you would rather receive the first letter than write it, let me know. Whatever works for you :D

Thank you all for signing up! I'm going to start now, but if you haven't joined yet and want to, just let me know. I'm not going to be writing a story, mostly just your letters, but if you ever need explanation on something, I can try to explain some! Remember it is supposed to be a little confusing. You can find the letter addressed to you by the way the names are written in bold at the top.

Hi Star,

I'm your pen pal, Theo.

I like your name. It reminds me of stars, because, well, you know. Sometimes, on clear nights, I can see stars from my window. They sound like wind chimes.

Anyway, I have to go, but I look forward to your letter.

-- Theo.

Dear MoonKitten,

Hi! My name's Mya! I'm six. I am not very good at spelling yet, so my friend Eli's writing this for me. What's your favorite color? Mine's purple. I like drawing and reading picture books. Do you like watching movies? I love them! My favorite's Mary Poppins.

Bye now!

Mya シ

Dear Ed,

Hi, my name's Mya! My friend Theo's helping me write this letter. Theo is always sleepy. He just said "no I am not!" But he is wrong because he slept in until 11:00!

What is your favorite game? My favorite is hide and seek! I live in a big building, so there are lots of good hiding spots. I always win.

I'll write to you soon!

Mya シ

Hey Milly,

I'm Theo. Sorry if my handwriting's a little messy, my hand's getting tired, I just wrote a letter for Mya.

Mya's funny. She's so little, I don't think she really understands why she's here or that she's different like all of us.

But maybe it's easier that way.

-- Theo.

Dear Stranger,

Hi, I'm Viola, the first of the last. I won't bother explaining what that means, I barely understand it myself.

I'm a normal girl, mostly. I like eating chocolate and chasing Mya, my friend, down hallways. But my favorite thing to do is dance to the moon.

I hope to read your letter soon!

Hello Lupine,

I'm Eliza, but call me Eli.

I don't know if you'll write back to me... I am part of Volume 86, so I guess maybe you won't.

I hate it here. I don't want to live here. I want to go to London when I grow up and play piano.

But then again, if I left now, there's so much I'd have to leave behind.

Any advice?

Sorry. I didn't mean to make it about myself. I like your name.

I can't wait for your letter.

Dear Eli,

Thanks for your letter! What does Volume 86 mean? I think you could play piano where you are, even if it isn't as exciting as London. Do you have a piano? I play the violin.

Dear Mya,

Hi! I'm MoonKitten, as you can tell. My favorite color is purple, too, and blue. What's your favorite thing to draw? I love movies. I'm not sure which one is my favorite, though. Mary Poppins is good.

Which letter is for me? I don't see any of them addressed to me.

Viola is a little dramatic, so she addressed her letter as "Dear Stranger" rather than your name--sorry, I should've been more clear on that. After this letter, it will say your name. Sorry it was really weird that I did that and didn't even explain >-<

Thats fine that you did it that way. And, here is my letter.

Dear Viola,

Thank you for the letter. I am a 12 year old girl with brown hair and blue eyes. I love choclate and ice cream. My favorite things to do is read and draw. If you dont mind me asking, How do you dance to the moon?

Your Pen Pal,

Lightning Girl

Hey Theo,

thanks! I like your name too.

I can't say I've ever heard stars. I wonder, what kind of windchimes do they sound like? And- the other question, how do you hear inanimate objects? I mean- you can always hear the rustling of leaves, and things like that, but just out of curiosity, how do you hear stars? And what do other things sound like?

thanks for writing! I'm looking forward to your letter!
