Dragon Riders RP

Dragon Riders RP ~ Revival

Hello, everyone. A few of you may remember the Dragon Rider’s RP from a while ago, but most of you probably don’t, because it drifted through the pages of the Inkwell pretty inconsistently. But I missed it, so I decided we could start anew… You don’t have to have been part of the original rp to join. We’re starting from scratch this time...

~backstory~

In the land of Emarya, the citizens and dragon riders have coexisted for centuries. The Riders simply wanted peace and safety for their people and their dragons, and the kings and queens of Emarya respected that. But one day, the current queen of Emarya mysteriously disappeared and was replaced by a new king - a mysterious man known only as Azazel.

Azazel wants power over Emarya and all the surrounding areas - including Equidron, the Dragon Rider’s territory. The Dragon Riders, of course, refuse to give up their homeland, and now the Riders are on the brink of war with Azazel and his supporters.

In Equidron, the Riders are preparing a plan known as the Lunar Sun Plan. The Lunar Sun is a time when the sun and moon both hit their peak. Every dragon gains power from either sunlight or moonlight, fueling them to fly faster and work harder. When the moon and sun are both out, the dragons will be strongest - and it may offer their only chance at defeating Azazel.

The future of Equidron is at stake. The Lunar Sun is two weeks out, and six young riders will be working together to form a unit of dragons and riders. If all goes according to plan, they will be saved… but if not, it means the end for the dragon riders.

Usually I'm a very tl;dr kind of person, but i read through all of this and your character looks really cool!

@everyone, I'm writing up my first post to start the RP now. Unless I'm told otherwise, I'm going to assume that all of the charries are just acquaintances and don't know each other super well yet. Although if anyone wants to make their charrie a good friend of Lexa's, I'd be open to that :)

We'll be starting soon! Can't wait :D :D

Sorry this took me SUCH a long time, starting this RP is harder than I thought. Not much plot is moved in this section, but I just needed to introduce characters/locations/the current time. I also don't know if I've yet mentioned this, but a rider and their dragon can communicate telepathically. But enough of me talking, let's get on with the RP.

Lexi ~~

The air is laced with a hint of adventure as I take off into the morning sky.

Today, the sky is blue and the sun is bright, making Kayda stronger than ever. The constant beat of her wings pulses through me, filling me with power, a sense of energy beyond words.

“Faster,” I yell to her. “To the cliffs. We flew a 10:22 yesterday- let’s try and beat it!” The wind brushes past my face as Kayda speeds up, diving towards the ground and sweeping back up to the cloudless sky.

The cliffs come into view, growing bigger and bigger as we get closer and closer. Trees, birds, and other things whizz past us as we explode forward, our eyes locked on the cliff face. The massive wall of stone looms over our heads and I hold tight to the saddle as Kayda turns vertical and starts the climb.

It takes two and a half full minutes to reach the clifftop, but we make it and Kayda collapses onto the hard, rocky surface.

“10 minutes and 15 seconds,” I say, breathing hard. “Not bad at all.”

Spectacular, actually, Kayda’s voice says in my mind. Especially considering I could barely make it to the top when we first started this route. I can feel her exhaustion coming from everywhere, so we rest a moment, staring out at the Inanis Desert in all of its glory. More dragons begin popping up in the sky, their riders waking up with an early morning ride to start the day. I considered that I could end up in a unit with any of these riders. In two weeks, I could be fighting for my life with someone I’ve barely met yet. Two weeks and a day. Barely any time at all left to prepare for the Lunar Sun.

Kayda feels my concern. You worry, she says to me. What’s wrong?

“I’m concerned,” I answer out loud. “We get our unit assignments today. Who knows who I could end up with? My future could be in the hands of any rider, any dragon.”

Reagan will choose wisely, she assures me, but still I feel scared. Reagan Cavaleiro, the Head of Equidron, always seemed to be a nice lady. She ascends from a long line of Cavaleiros, the original founding family of Equidron, who hold large amounts of power when it comes to understanding dragons. It only seems right that she would be the one to decide our fates - to select the riders and dragons with whom we would fight for the future of Equidron.

A bell tolls in the distance, audible even from its place in the observatory miles away. The bell tells me that it’s 8 o’clock. Half an hour until classes start for the day.

Time to go, I say to Kayda. With a sigh, I mount onto her back, taking in a final moment of peace before the big day.

And with that, she spreads her wings and lifts off into the endless azure sky.

*sigh* lets post under this name, for old time's sakes....

anyways, nocturne is gonna be someone who has a close bond with luuma, not a rider. She does go with Luuma on Apollo occasionally though.

~-~

Luuma isn't too pleased about her new rider. But it's alright. Hopefully. Hopefully she won't be another disappointment.

Luuma sighs, and paws at the ground, before Nocturne comes over to Luuma, gently patting her head and leaving a few avian treats of some sort on the ground. Luuma sniffs at them, and gulps them down.

Nocturne laughs, before patting Luuma again.

"Wanna go for a quick ride? Apollo's a bit tired today."

Luuma nods, and Nocturne mounts Luuma, and they soar off into the horizon together. A couple minutes later, they fly back, landing.

Nocturne laughs again, and gives Luuma a couple more avian treats. Out of the corner of Luuma's eye, she can see her dragon rider- ivy? Ivyanne? She moderately remembered something about Ivy.

Nocturne waves to Ivy. "Hello!" she shouts, waving.

it's a weekend and i just woke up so i think i'll post and then run off to do my math homework because WHAT we have HOMEWORK on the WEEKEND?!?!?

-

ivyanne

The strangest part was the dragon. When the Riders came and assumed they were a unit, the dragon didn't say anything. She didn't push away or shake her head or use her weird telepathy powers (did dragons really have that ability? Ivyanne wasn't sure. The books they read in the Home For Lost Little Ones just said that dragons were scary.)- no, the dragon just stepped closer to Ivyanne, then tilted her head like what are you gonna do about it? This strange occurance never happened again, as the moment they reached the Dragon Riders base, the dragon disappeared.

Oh well. Ivyanne didn't like the cold, calculating look in her shimmering black eyes anyways.

~

The Dragon Riders, assuming Ivyanne is fine and not the most disoriented person ever, stride off down a long hall and disappear around a bend. Ivyanne wonders if the five of them were the only ones. After all, the Dragon Riders were "a struggling organization determined to take down the one true king", as the Azazel representative had said while his comrades had raided the orphanage, believing that the Matron was a spy for the Riders.

Ivyanne will never know if they were right. The things they did to the Matron still linger in their head, along with the sharp sound of her last breath as Ivyanne scurried out the back door.

Pushing the memories away, Ivyanne hurries down the wide corridor, trying to remember where the dragon went. Perhaps she went this way- left? No, right, Ivyanne thinks, trying to follow the ghost of the past. They dart quickly down the right-hand passageway and almost slip in a pile of something brown. Ivyanne gags at the smell but smiles internally- for once they've found something!

Because this, the great chamber of a room that stretches before them, is filled with dragons.

...And filled with their Riders.

Ivyanne is so, so wrong about the Dragon Rider population. There are so many in this one room- talking to the dragons, feeding the dragons, taking the dragons out of their stalls and- Ivyanne's stomach drops into their boots. The Riders are launching the dragons into the sky, flying as one out of the great hole in the opposite wall. The mountains stretch beneath them, tinted purple-red in the light of the sunset. Fear clouds Ivyanne's mind- is that something they're required to do?

Something startles them out of their thoughts. Perhaps it is a breeze blowing against their face, or perhaps it is how the girl across from them looks just like Ivyanne's childhood best friend Saskia, who was the biggest dragon nerd ever and would be right at home here in the dragon hall.

Or maybe, they think, it's "their" dragon.

And it is.

From a stall two down and one back, piercing black eyes drift over Ivyanne. They can feel them, see them, hear them- oh. So this is my Rider.

The dragon sounds disappointed. Like the person that escaped from the burning orphanage is not the same person that stands nervously in the doorway. Ivyanne, feeling awkward, begins making their way across the room. Before long, they're standing in front of the dragon.

"Um. So. I feel like a complete idiot right now because I don't know if you can understand me and-"

A voice from behind the dragon interrupts Ivyanne.

"She can hear you, but Luuma prefers telepathy." The voice says, sounding a bit posh and a hint rude.

"O-Oh! Sorry, I- Are you her Rider? Do I not have to do this? I have a home I can go back to if you'd like, I don't want to take your spot-"

"Luuma's not my dragon. I just like riding them. And they like me, so it's all fine. You're their dragon rider, and they know it."

Ivyanne is a bit confused before realizing they've got this dragons pronouns all wrong. Resolving to fix that, they nod hurriedly and start to ask about how to talk telepathically to the dragon- Luuma, they mean. Not "the dragon", Luuma.

"So do I just- extend my thoughts? Like a tentacle? And wrap it around Luuma? If that makes any sense?"

"I suppose so."

"Okay, um- Here goes nothing?"

Prepared to make a complete fool of themself, Ivyanne stretches out their "mind tentacle" and reaches in Luuma's direction.

Hi? I guess? Can you hear me?

--

-if there's any pronoun mistakes/past tense uses, I apologise, I'm writing this on my phone and it likes correcting my every word :/

(Also I know this is a long ramble about Ivyanne being confused but it was more of an introduction to their thinking style for me. things will progress faster in the future, i promise ;D)

Luuma

Luuma recieves the message and sighs. It's a bit fuzzy, but that's okay...I guess, they think.

So they sigh, and open their mind to the tentative expanse of human that lies before them.

Hello. Yes, I can indeed hear you. So you are my rider.

Luuma observes Ivyanne for a minute or two, before realizing that this human isn't the most confident person. They do appreciate Ivyanne for actually not pretending to be confident. They remind them of Apollo.

Luuma lets out an internal laugh, and lets her tail sweep across the dusty hay, glinting in the soft morning sunlight. She's kind of tired, but she doesn't really mind. The light glints harshly off her scales, giving her an intimidating look. Add to the blood on her claws [dried and prey] from a rat that attempted to attack Nocturne, and her glistening black obsidian eyes with a slash across them that's still slightly bloody- the rat opened it again-, along with the sharpness of her claws, and if she still had blood spattered on her scales, then she would have looked like something out of a horror movie.

But she's cleaned off the blood, and she's tired. She yawns a little, and Nocturne pats her head, sending a telepathic message that Ivyanne probably could here.

There, there, Luuma. I know you're tired, but we have some training so that you can feel comfortable with your new Dragon Rider.

Luuma yawns, and telepaths back,

Alright. Go take care of Apollo now. I'm rather sure he needs it.

Andrei Lamont~~

This was the day the Riders were supposed to be meeting their new units, and Andrei was spending it in a prison. It wasn’t like he’d intended to end up here, but a very good opportunity had come up and xe wasn’t the kind of person to miss out on good opportunities. He hoped that the rest of his unit wasn’t going to mind if xe spent their “bonding time” committing a crime.

The guard’s uniform he was wearing fit loosely around his body--the guard xe’d stolen it from was notably larger than Andrei, but they were the only one by themself. So far, nobody had found the unconscious body of the guard, or noticed that Andrei wasn’t actually one of their colleagues. Xe tried to walk quicker--the cell he was looking for was just around the corner.

And there it was. The prisoner inside was about the same age as Andrei, with curly red hair, freckles, and pale skin. His head was lowered, but Andrei knew his sharp, green eyes would have a mischievous glint in them.

The prisoner stood as Andrei got closer, and revealed those green eyes. Andrei couldn’t help but grin--it had been quite some time since xe’d seen Kettu. Kettu did a double-take upon seeing Andrei’s face, then the same grin appeared on him. Andrei put a finger to his lips, reminding Kettu to not say anything. Kettu nodded in response.

Xe pulled the keys he’d stolen out of his pocket, looking for the correct number. He slipped it into the lock, and with a soft click, the door opened. Kettu rushed towards it. When he was in the hall, Andrei guided him, trying to make it look as if xe was just a guard leading him to a new cell.

They were pulling it off surprisingly well.

The other guards hardly paid attention to them as they walked through the halls. Andrei knew there was a back exit around here somewhere--they’d easily be able to escape. It was a shame that Andrei had missed the Rider ceremony, but oh well. It wasn’t like he was too terribly invested in all that war stuff, though Torbjorn would probably lecture him later.

The pair made it outside, breaking into a run as soon as they were out of view of the prison. Andrei left the guard uniform in a bush several feet away, sprinting to catch up with Kettu. The woods surrounding the prison began to turn into warehouses and shady alleyways, and the pair began to slow down.

“So, Andrei,” Kettu said when he’d regained his breath, “How’d you find me?”

“I saw you being arrested,” Andrei said. “From the sky. On a dragon.”

“You became a Rider? Impressive--how’d you do it?” Kettu had resumed walking, and Andrei followed him.

Andrei laughed. “I snuck across the border a couple years ago and ran into a group of Riders on the other side. I told them some stupid sob story about my parents getting killed by Azazel’s soldiers and they ate it right up.”

“Haha, nice.”

“So how did you get to Equidron?” Andrei asked. Kettu seemed to be leading him somewhere.

“Same as you--I snuck across the border. And then, I found a group of orphans in this city. So I taught them the ways of the Reapers,” Kettu explained.

“You rebuilt the gang?”

“That’s right. You want in?”

“Obviously.”

“Then come inside.” Kettu had stopped in front of a small warehouse. “We’ve been waiting for you.”
