Chatterbox: Inkwell

ZODIAC KEYS- A SOLO WRITE BY LYNXIE_ AKA AISLYNNLYNX

Coronation night. Gosh, why’s everyone making such a big deal out of it? I hope I get Constellatio. North’s Chinese, so I think she’ll get Seres.

Cass is in her room, picking out her coronation dress. 

12 hours until the Coronation Night begins. 

North Star is in her room, polishing her jewlery. 

10 hours until the Coronation Night begins. 

Virgo, Capricorn, and Taurus are in their room. Taurus and Virgo are arguing about which necklace would look better on Capricorn, whilst Capricorn is desperately trying to stop them. 

8 hours until the Coronation Night begins. 

Pisces, Cancer, and Scorpio are in the ballroom. It’s eerily quiet. Nobody is saying anything. They’re setting out the refreshments and dishes and other miscellaneous objects. 

6 hours until the Coronation Night begins. 

Aquarius, Gemini, and Libra are in the library. The only source of light is a flickering candle. They’re reading books- almost like the Coronation Night will never happen. 

4 hours until the Coronation Night begins. 

Leo, Sagittarius, and Aries are in the training room. They’re fighting with each other- both verbally and physically. Well, it’s Leo and Aries fighting. Sagittarius is holding the camera and shouting, “FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!” 

2 hours until the Coronation Night begins. 

The guests are arriving. The smaller children who are part of the Aountu Kingdom’s education program are peering out the windows, shoving and laughing, trying to get a better look at the gilded carriages. 

The Coronation Night has begun. 

“Welcome to the Coronation, ladies, gentlemen, and others!” says a figure clad with midnight blue robes. 

There is a cheering, as everyone raises their glass. Some are filled with champagne, others filled with cider, but most are filled with mixes of drinks. 

The figure raises their own glass, half-filled with champagne. 

“To a new generation!” 

“To a new generation!” the crowd echoes enthusiastically. 

They all take a drink. 

There is the sound of a clock chiming. It sounds exactly 12 times. 

It’s time for the crowning. 

The figure snaps their fingers, and two sapphire crowns form themselves. 

North Star and Cassiopeia are standing nearby. 

The Zodiacs are standing on the other side, waiting patiently. Or, at least, trying to. 

The figure guides the crowns gently to North Star and Cassiopeia’s heads. 

“THE NEW QUEENS!” The figure shouts. 

There is a loud cheer from the crowd. 

It doesn’t last long, though. 

Gray-blue smoke begins seeping in through the doors. 

The crowd shrieks. 

Is this some kind of performance?

Whispers spread throughout the crowd, slivers of conversation being heard here and there. 

The doors are engulfed in smoke- there is a slight shattering sound, and a Malfia floats in. 

The crowd gasps. Many chuckling red faces turn grim and pale. 

The Malfia cackles. 

“Hmm, ooh, pretty birdies! New queens! Let’s cause some chaos!” 

There are several gasps of fright. The Malfias were known for causing “chaos”, also known as creating a big problem at the beginning of a queen’s rule.

The Malfias thought of it as testing a ruler. If the Kingdom fell, the Queen or King was not trustable. If the Kingdom survived, the Queen or King would be respected by the Malfias. 

The citizens and rulers of the Kingdoms thought of it as unnecessary. They were frightened that the Malfias would someday destroy the world as a test. 

The Malfia snaps their fingers, and says a lot of gibberish, before a lime green smoke arrow shoots from their fingers and explodes in midair. 

The Twelve Zodiacs disappear. 

The Malfia cackles again. “New questie! Hooray! Let’s test the stamina of these poor little queensies!” 

The Malfia disappears. 

The guests, pale faced, hurry back into their carriages, making up all sorts of excuses for leaving. 

North Star and Cassiopeia are panicking. 

 

This has never happened before.
