Forest Role Play: Part Two

~~~
"In the middle of a huge sea of trees lies a tiny town.
The forest used to be called Silva Vivus Umbrare, which, translated from the old language, means the Forest of Living Shadows, but the people just called it the Woods. Still, the forest lived up to its old name.
The trees moved during the night, uprooting themselves and gliding across the earth to a new spot. Sometimes the guards on duty at night would catch a glimpse of an elk or a deer gliding through the trees with a tall, graceful figure on its back. Occasionally, a larger creature slipped past the guards and stole away a cow or pig or goat.
But even with all the dangers which surrounded them, the people of the town were proud to say that through the half-decade of the existence of the town, they had never lost a person to the woods or to any creature living in the woods.
Until now.
This year, during the Cilana festival, a time in the spring when the people cut down all the trees which have grown at or moved to the edge of town, three young children disappeared.
Alana, an eight-year-old girl with frizzy red hair and a quick smile, Jakob, a serious five-year-old boy with sunburned skin from too many naps in the open, and Zena, a talkative seven-year-old girl with intense blue eyes. Their disappearance stopped the Cilana festival and threw the town into chaos.
The townspeople knew that the three would never have gone off into the Woods by themselves, for the fear of the forest was too deep set in everyone, so the townspeople could only think that they had been kidnapped or stolen. Although the townspeople were frightened and scared and the parents of the children were frantic, only a few people dared to go out into the woods.
You, along with a small group, have decided to venture into the forest to see if the children can still be found. Your bravery has given the town new hope, and the townspeople have provided you with weapons, tools, and horses. You will leave on the new moon.”
Here it is, the long-awaited sequel to the Forest Role Play! For those of you who don’t know, the original thread was created by Hummingbird, who unfortunately left the CB soon after. We kept the thread alive, and ended up finishing Part One in April of 2021. We left several loose ends to be tied up in Part Two--this thread!
I’ll summarize the plot so far, and if you’d like to read the original thread, I’ll link it here: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/inkwell/node/446255
~~~

The characters gather their supplies and leave the village, soon setting up camp for the night. They encounter their first creature, an Ibrix whom Azi keeps and names Ben. The next night, after an argument, their camp is attacked by Hollowfaces, Shadowbeasts, and Murkbeings, dangerous creatures of the forest who can sense and track hatred. They fight off the creatures and make it to a nearby village, where they spend the night. The next day they continue and find a hair ribbon belonging to Zena, one of the missing children. At camp that night, their fire spreads, growing out of control and burning the clearing. Azi, Iyara, and Demi run back into the flames to save Ben and Spirit, Iyara’s dog. They make it out, badly burned, and the group puts out the fire with river water. After searching the forest for a few more days, the characters find a dead eight-year-old boy, though not one of the kids they’re searching for. They hold a funeral, and an upset Demi wanders into the woods and is kidnapped. She wakes up next to Jakob, one of the missing children. Back at camp, the characters realize Demi is missing, and birds (whom Jeannie can speak to) lead them to Demi and Jakob. There’s a fight, and everyone but Demi, Jakob, and Ash are captured. To escape, they jump out of a moving wagon, then follow the wagon after meeting up with Demi, Jakob, and Ash. Bradley breaks his arm and it starts to rain, so they set up a shelter. Zabder wakes up with amnesia, and the other two missing children, Alana and Zena, show up out of the forest. Meanwhile, Ash wanders into the woods and meets an elf-like creature, a Fynchnox, who has another Zena. Demi finds them and gets hit by an arrow, and the others run away while Macey offers to trade herself for Zena. Caston and Azi remember the Fynchnox’s weakness is cold, and they all go back to help while Demi stays with the kids. They defeat the Fynchnox, but then realize that there are two Zenas. Sebastian figures out who is the real Zena because on is missing the hair ribbon that they’d found earlier. They decide to return to the village, but realize they’re lost. Just as they think they’ve found their way, they’re attacked again by Shadowbeasts and mysterious figures throwing knives. They retreat, heading back to the village, but when they arrive they find it empty.

~~~
That’s Part One in a nutshell. Our plan for Part Two is that the characters will leave the children at the village and venture back out to discover who kidnapped them in the first place, and why. Any inactive characters from Part One will stay back to take care of the kids, and any new characters that join will be survivors found in the village. As Hummingbird originally said, don’t be afraid to move the story forward! Create new creatures, add plot twists, make things happen! Hopefully everyone grows to love this story as much as we do.
Name: Anneriverie Laefdaghter (her name is sometimes shortened to 'riverie)
Age:17
Gender/Pronouns: Female, she/her/hers
Appearance: Very small, 4'8", and thin to the point of looking fragile and easily breakable.  Her muted red-gold hair is wavy and braided tightly into two stiff plaits that end a little below her shoulder blades tied by pieces of green thread.  Short curling locks of hair escape her braids and curl around her neck.  Her elfin face is small and pointed, but looks even smaller because of her large green eyes framed by pale lashes that change shades in different lights.  Her eyebrows are also pale but show clearly against her even paler skin.  They are delicately arched and extremely expressive.  Her nose is slightly upturned and so are her thin lips.  She often breaks into a sudden smile and can't smile ungenuinly to save her life.  Her skin is porcelain perfect and dotted with light brown freckles across her face.  She prefers wearing thin brown pants and loose shirts in natural shades of blue and green.  She is very picky about her shoes and only has one pair of worn, leather, ankle height walking shoes.  Everything about her is delicate, even her voice, and she appears almost wren like in how fragile she looks.
Personality: Mature and childlike at the same time.  It's hard to explain, she acts truely older that she is but hasn't forgotten what what being a child is like.  Hence, those who don't know her age think she is years older than 17; while she feels both older and younger than 17, but mostly younger.  She is kind, thoughtful, and empathetic to the point of almost seeming to read peoples' minds.  She is motherly without being bossy, picky, or nosy.  She has an innate sense of when to help/comfort someone and when to let them be alone.  She is quiet, definitely not a leader, but very strong and resiliant.  Someone to trust and lean against.  Optimistic but realistic.  Very nimble, both mentaly and physically.  You can't offend or hurt her, to do so you must offend or hurt someone she cares for and then she becomes extremely angry and will lash out.  She has a special affinity to children and loves them as they love her.  She would do anything for them (unless they were asking for something they were better without; she can be stern/firm).
Quirks:  Her fingers always have a need to move, whether it's lighting a fire, or braiding hair, or weaving a tiny basket from grass.  She also tends to quietly sing songs as her fingers work, mostly folk songs or strange wandering, tuneless songs she makes up as she sings.
Flaws: She has a hard time keeping still and a hard time doing any strenous athletic exercises as she isn't very physically strong.  (This list may grow as I write her and get to know her better).
Shipping: Not open.
Other: She knows her plants extremely well and has a strong green thumb.
Hello! Wyyiz, my AE, has a question:
Can I submit a character? -Wyyiz
(October 13, 2021 - 3:37 pm)
Name: Rowan Song
Age (12-20): 15
Gender/Pronouns: Female, she/her
Appearance: She’s on the taller side of average, long limbed, tanned skin, reddish auburn mid-length hair, dark brown eyes, strong though she doesn't look it, wears black pants and a black shirt, and leather boots.
Personality: Usually pretty calm and mild but if needed she can be pretty bold and fierce. For the most part, she keeps in the background and rarely speaks unless it’s a necessity. However, if she gets to know someone, she’s open and will make jokes. She’s also very loyal, and protective of her friends. Tends to act first and then think about it later.
Quirks: She’s very accurate about predicting the weather. She’ll be able to predict that it’s going to rain or whatever even if there’s no visible signs.
Flaws: She isn’t the best at planning, and will charge headfirst into situations and make reckless decisions.
Shipping: Preferably boys but anyone around her age
Other: I usually develop my characters more as the story evolves so I might make some changes to my character as the RP progresses.
do you want to age our characters 1 year or no?
submitted by @pt.1RPers, it's Lumi, she/her
(October 13, 2021 - 7:49 pm)
Hmm, I think no, only because Part 2 picks up right after Part 1 finishes (I think) and if no one had a birthday during Part 1, then keep the same age.
I do think it would be cool to have a birthday (or a few!) during Part 2 because it could bring some joy to a heavy situation, or it might be a sad thing because it's their birthday and everyone is on a life-or-death mission.
k good points all around thanks :) I'm going to make Jeannie's birthday be right at the beginning of this RP so I won't change her age from 13 back to 12 but it'll still make sense
Name: Zander Sionnach Glic
Age: 16 (Almost 17 at this point)
Gender: Male
Appearence: Dark brown messy hair, emerald green eyes, Tan-ish white skin color. Average height, muscular.
Personality: Intelligent, kind, responsible, and cares deeply about the people around him. He can be demanding, and likes being in charge.
Quirks: He had amnesia that one time. He also talks extremely fast when he's excited, usually making it sound like he's speaking gibberish.
Flaws: He’s too trusting, and determined that he and his friends can do anything, which tends to put pressure on them.
Shipping: Probably not, I believe he's with Macy.
Other: He loves animals and reading. He’s the oldest of his 13 siblings. His mother died two years ago, and his father disappeared shortly after when he went to look for a better job. He looks after his siblings with his twin sister, Zaida.
Here's Caston's updated sheet! I ended up making a few changes.
Name: Caston Lark
Age (12-20): 17
Gender/Pronouns: Male, he/him
Appearance: He has light brown hair that falls in his eyes a lot, and tan skin with some freckles on his face and arms. His eyes are hazel, and he’s shorter than average. He tends to wear neutral-toned tunics and trousers, along with sturdy leather boots for walking.
Personality: He likes to stay out of the limelight and fly under the radar. He’s not at all confrontational and often stays quiet, especially in busy or chaotic environments. The more time he spends with people, the more he comes out of his shell, but he still often won’t voice his opinion unless prompted. He’s not good under pressure, but he tries his best and puts his heart and soul into anything he cares about.
Quirks: He can identify most magical creatures from their tracks, and he always runs his hands through his hair when he’s thinking.
Flaws: He almost never stands up for himself and can't work well under pressure.
Shipping: Open to boys!
Other: He volunteered to look for the missing kids because he knew them, and he thinks his knowledge of creatures and the woods could be of use. One of the children, Jakob, is a family friend whom he cares about deeply.
Welp we haven't even started roleplaying but I already wanna redo my character.
Name: Sky Oak
Age (12-20): 14
Gender/Pronouns: she/her
Appearance: Earthy brown, longish thick hair and large forest-green eyes, somewhat tall, skinny but sturdily built.  Freckly.
Personality: Carefree, likes to dance and sing, loves hiking, loves telling stories by the fire, a true nature girl, likes birds
Quirks: Sometimes she seems to speak complete nonsense, but it could have some deep meaning.  She's forgetful- and I mean forgetful.
Flaws: Cannot remember simple things, has a habit of going off on her own without telling anybody and freaking them out.
Shipping: Nope!
Other: She was found in the village after it was deserted, but no one had ever seen her before.
