Part 1

Rey Call was living in the town of Golsagte. He is 16 and can drive. He is adventurous and cheerful! He was not the least bit normal!

He sat outside and listened to the wind. He pretended that the wind told him stories. As he listened, the wind blew his dyed lue bangs into his face covering his blue eyes. He laughed and pushed his bangs back. He went inside and called Cody, his best friend. They talked for a bit and then Rey made lunch. His lunches were strange. They usually consisted of flour, rice, and sugar. Sometimes water. After he ate, he went outside. Someone walked past his yard. The wind blew her short blonde hair out of her face. Her hair was wavy as well and it reminded Rey of the wind. she turned and waved. He could see her pale skin and violet eyes. He felt like he should talk to her.

You continue it!

Just as Rey was about to approach the person, she held her hand out to him and said, “Don’t move, if you’re fond of your pretty little face.”

Rey was not in the habit of complying with other people, especially strangers, so he moved anyway and was promptly attacked by a squirrel. He couldn’t even see the darn little thing. It was just a bundle of fur and claws, streaking around his head like a tornado.

The girl lunged forward with a net and caught the squirrel, grinning. Then she tossed it in a cage and shut the door with her heavy leather boot. “That ought to teach him a lesson,” she said, a cheeky smile playing across her features like the flicker of a candle flame.

Rey was mesmerized by her impressive squirrel performance and could hardly speak, but managed to get out a choked “I’m Rey.”

“Audrey,” the girl said, popping her gum. “You new here?”

“N-no…?” Rey stammered. He’d lived in boring, sleepy Golsagte for his whole life.

“Oh,” Audrey said. “Never seen you around before.”

This, of all things, struck Rey as odd, and it was somewhat indignantly that he responded, “Well, it’s not as if I’m a ghost.”

Audrey grew cold at his response and hitched the squirrel cage into her purple tote bag. “Well, gotta go,” she said, avoiding his gaze. “I’m late for my shift.” As if she expected his confusion, Audrey added, “at Animal Control. Got a job with my uncle.”

Rey felt insulted, but he couldn’t deny that Audrey was the best thing that had ever happened to him. He called after her retreating frame, “See you tomorrow?”

“Mhm,” she replied vaguely, and floated away. Was it just the Golsagte heat waves that made her seem to flicker in and out of existence, just like her expression? Was it just Rey’s imagination that her feet hardly seemed to touch the cracked sidewalk before taking another stride? At any rate, it was certainly Rey’s tendency to lose himself to thought that prevented him from hearing the loud bang, smelling the acrid smoke, and seeing Audrey scream and run towards the sound in a panicked frenzy. Rey could be a little thick headed sometimes.
