'Prompt' Exchange

'Prompt' Exchange Thread!

A thread for random ideas you thought up but are probably never going to write/a place to brainstorm cool plots, whether or not you end up going any further.

Maybe you'll inspire someone else with cute, heartfelt, mysterious, angsty, or flat-out weird ideas? Maybe you have a really cool first line or interesting premise, but don't know where to use it? Maybe you're looking for something to motivate or inspire you, but don't know where to start? Or perhaps you just want to design an OC without writing a whole story, or concoct an outline for an overly-convoluted scheme? Perhaps you really want to see more post-apocalypse cyberpunk or a fresh take fantasy or pure fluff-mance stories, or something niche and oddly specific, and want to egg random people on until they finally write it for you?

Well why not try exchanging with others? Drop off ideas that you might not want to write an entire thing about, and pick up other people's ideas to test them out. Maybe you'll find a new favourite genre or writer; maybe you'll finally cure your writers' block. Challenge yourself! And of course, have fun!

"The world isn't fair, and you know it, Kasha."

The knowing silence that hung between them was more of an acknowledgment than any spoken words could be. Kashakilina let her head fall against Jenara's shoulder, who sighed softly.

"Just because it's difficult doesn't mean that you can't try, though. I'm not going to stop you. You do what you think is right and I'll back you up, no matter what you choose to do, okay? Let me be your rock, and I will not be washed away, even after a hundred tides have come and gone."

The Kasha's sky-eyes locked onto the dark abysses of her partner's and she nodded, resolute. "Thank you, Jena. Really…" She squeezed faer hand, a gesture which was reciprocated, and nothing more had to be said.

I am planning on continuing this but idk (and of course thoughts and/or constructive criticism are always greatly appreciated) :)

Random line for anyone who wants to use it:

In an ancient land, beneath an old willow tree, there lies the grave of one whose name is near forgotten.

Ooh, I like this! Nice and slightly somber, slightly hopeful, and of course plenty mysterious~

Some poetic concepts for y'all:

> Glass eyes

> Olivine (a very shatter-prone material; basically you touch it -- nay, merely breathe upon it -- and it falls apart) ...somethings (hearts, promises, surfaces, etc.)

> Blurry vision + the future

> Scars being more light than dark (they tend to shine), take that as you will

> things that mend? (idk, nature and stuff maybe)

> Beyond/behind a beautiful illusion

> a (queer) twist on a classic story (lol because why not ig)

I really like that idea about olivine! Oh, and for some reason I love the location  you used:)

Let's pretend like I didn't fall off of the face of the Earth for a long time.. (aka: I checked CB, rediscovered this thread, and conjured up some ideas.)

Anyways! Prompts! If you can do anything with these, that's great!!

- Kintsugi/Kintsukuroi—translates to golden ("kin") and repair ("tsugi")—the mending of things with gold.

- A prophecy that completely contradicts the main/established plot line.

- Something that involves marbles—I think it's a curious thing to hold up a clear glass marble to the sky and see the blue skies and whispy white clouds through it. What if the marble was clear? What if the marble was cloudy? What if the marble was tinted with color?

- Reincarnation love story, but only one person of the pairing remembers their past life.

- A reaper and a lost soul. What if it was a love story? What if they were sworn enemies?

- Someone who dabbles in such magical arts that ends up summoning a lost soul—the lost soul seems harmless in the beginning, but something ends up happening that forces the magic-user to find a way to send the lost soul back.

- A "blind" person with enhanced senses. (Take the quotation marks as you will—could they be blind? Or could it be some other form of blindness?)

Jaybells, hi hi hi! I missed you toooo!!!~

Thank you for the warm welcome!! Sadly, I don't think I'll be quite active on CB (because of my forgetfulness and life being hectic—marching band's starting up again..), but I'm at least hoping to visit this thread sometimes and maybe post something!

I've missed reading your writing! All of your shared snippets, stories, and prompts have inspired me to get back onto my feet after procrastinating so much! I'm super happy to see that you're still on here and writing!! :D <3

These prompts are all so good, I can feel stories coming out from them already!

Take it from my experience though(my most important writing project is the living incarnate of this exact prompt), reincarnation romaces are hard, not just because of the difficulties of mastering how to show subtle emotional changes occuring in each scene of the story, but mostly when you start to intertwine the scenes themselves with character deaths and long redemption arcs and jealousy and hidden backstories and a dozen misunderstandings and misapprehensions and conflicting love triangles and the other person in the pair regaining their memory... things tend to get out of hand veeeery quickly. But it doesn't change the fact that they're still very fun to write, it's just a matter of skill.
