'Prompt' Exchange

'Prompt' Exchange Thread!

A thread for random ideas you thought up but are probably never going to write/a place to brainstorm cool plots, whether or not you end up going any further.

Maybe you'll inspire someone else with cute, heartfelt, mysterious, angsty, or flat-out weird ideas? Maybe you have a really cool first line or interesting premise, but don't know where to use it? Maybe you're looking for something to motivate or inspire you, but don't know where to start? Or perhaps you just want to design an OC without writing a whole story, or concoct an outline for an overly-convoluted scheme? Perhaps you really want to see more post-apocalypse cyberpunk or a fresh take fantasy or pure fluff-mance stories, or something niche and oddly specific, and want to egg random people on until they finally write it for you?

Well why not try exchanging with others? Drop off ideas that you might not want to write an entire thing about, and pick up other people's ideas to test them out. Maybe you'll find a new favourite genre or writer; maybe you'll finally cure your writers' block. Challenge yourself! And of course, have fun!

The age rating is 13+ so I probably can't talk about it. But the plot was basically exactly the same, even though I've never heard of it, let alone watched it!

Cooper breathed in the soggy weight in the summer air. Electric blue eyes caught the grey waves that curled the sky, and he combed a hand through his hair, letting out a sigh. He could feel the sweat and humidity soaking into his skin already.

Never had he imagined a day like this would come.

~~~ Earlier that day ~~~
A tall teen with dirty-blonde hair darted through the front doors of the brick establishment, shielding himself from the pouring rain. He held with him a folder and seal manilla parcel. First day, and of course it's gotta rain, he thought as he rushed in, only pausing briefly to tap the water off his shoes and check the time on his watch.
Continuing on, he rounded the corner, headed up the stairs, and arrived in a room resembling a lounge. Here it was. The boy handed a batch of printed sheets from his folder to the bespectacled receptionist, and with a quick glance-over, she nodded and asked him to take a seat.
After just a moment of nervously fidgeting on one of the uncomfortable padded chairs, another lady with ginger hair opened the opposite door. "Cooper, right?" She smiled, glancing up from her clipboard. The teen nodded, and was escorted inside.
Inside he was lead through an intricate maze of corridors and closed doors until they reached a wide, white-lit room that was unlocked. "We'll be with you shortly, if you don't mind waiting for a moment." The lady left him sitting in alone again. Cooper thought it a bit odd, how similar this felt to a doctor's appointment from when he was a child. Not that real doctors were allowed anymore anyway.
Presently, stocky dark man with a shock of white hair entered with the red-haired lass from before. Sitting down across from them, the question-and-answer game began. Nothing too unexpected happened until the man cordially announced that just about everything had been covered. The lady nodded as she checked her clipboard again.
"I suppose that just leaves the official introduction, then!" She flashed another grin. "This is Clay, codename Cobalt, and I'm Bree, but you should call me Déjà." A sharp beep sounded from her electric wrist device, "Ah, hold on. It looks like you might already have a practice-mission right now. ELLA!" She shouted the last part towards the door, and Cooper sat straight up as another figure entered the room. A fashionably-dressed teen with skin so dark it was nearly black and curly black hair in a short, puffy ponytail had stepped in, snapping a bubble as she did.
Cooper glanced at Bree, who elbowed the girl. "C'mon, change back to your usual appearance." She whisper-shouted, eliciting an eyeroll from Ella. He gasped as the newcomer suddenly morphed into a slightly shorter form with straight shoulder-length golden hair and fair skin. Although looking a little different from home he remembered, Cooper still recognised this person. How could he ever forget?
Seeing the boy's stunned reactions, Déjà laughed, "Amazing, right? As you can probably tell, this is Ella, better known as Maverick." She slyly eyed Maverick, "And on that topic, we're gonna need Hecate, if you will."
With an annoyed look, Maverick's tongue clicked. Cooper stared in pure amazement as the straight gold strands elongated and darkened until they were black and waist-length with a few purple streaks. The eyes seemed to wash themselves clean of hazel with a shower of violet, and stretch until they were nearly almond-shaped. Even Maverick's height and figure began to change, being molded like silly putty until all of the visible features were sharper and thinner, and Maverick was several inches taller than just before. "So, this time 'Hecate' will be your guide and senior-partner." Déjà beamed at everyone.
The two quickly left together, with Maverick only speaking up to say that xyr pronouns were xe/xyr/xem, and to call xem Maverick unless xe was 'transformed,' in which case he should call xem by whoever xe was supposed to be, with their personal pronouns. Cooper simply nodded silently, still completely stunned by what had just happened.
This is the first snippet of a story I came up with while on a walk today.
i'm currently writing a book series about Winged Cats, they live on a different planet. i need a little help developing two characters, both Cosmic Winged Cats, and my goal is for both of them to be completely adorable together.
Name: Pitch
Appearance: very black, shiny fur, batlike black wings and dragonish scaly gold tail, one ear is bent, dark gold eyes
Pronouns: he/him
Personality (so far): reckless and bonkers but when you pick him up, he's a cute squirmy snuggle bug.
Name: Constellation (or just Stella)
Appearance: black sparkly fur, batlike gray wings and dragonish scaly sparkly gold tail, very pretty and with small paws, glowing gold eyes
Pronouns: she/her
Personality (so far): i dont know, anything that works well with Pitch.
Hmm, maybe Stella could be the perfect but naggy type, who's mature, but worries over Pitch and his recklessness. If she is like that, it could be something that Pitch both admires, but is also annoyed by, sometimes.
Good luck, the premise sounds fun so far! :)
Some gems I found searching for inspiration
"He was expensive.  Please be more considerate of my money the next time I hire an assassin to kill you."
"Stop telling me how to live my life!"
"I'm your conscience.  That is literally my one job."
"I taught you how to pick locks, and THAT is how you chose to use the skill?"
"I killed my mother.  Are you really questioning what I can do to you right now?"
How to plot twist:
-Think of all the directions in which it would make sense for the story to go.
-Get someone else to read the story up to the end of what you have so far and ask them what they think will/should happen next.
-Don't do any of your ideas or their suggestion. Pick a whole new thing to happen next.
-Of course, make sure it's still plausible. If you're writing realistic fiction, a sudden dinosaur attack will be very surprising, but it is not plausible.
Hmmmm, my captcha said orizp. Or is it?
I'd prefer if you don't use the exact wording as I do I'd you take inspiration from it, but it sounds cool, so I thought I'd leave it out here for future sparking. So, without further ado, here's the first line of my upcoming piece:
"Something Makai soon came to realise was that light was infectious."
The water ran red that day.
It had run red for many days; ever since the rebellion first began. Indeed, it was the first place to be tainted with iron and shrapnel and sinking ships, leaving the drowned souls of the innocent defenseless.
Bitterness hinged on that river, painted it as the blood and boiling-over grudges leaked into conflict, and overflowed; making the waters writhe and roughen in despair.
It was on one of those red-soaked days, on the banks of the Great River, that the hero would be born.
something i started a long time ago and never finished: a grandmother or aunt telling tall tales to neighborhood kids, but it's not set long ago or far away, it's not even set in her childhood down south. it's set right over there, at that soccer field, in that bank, and it happened only a few years ago. they can be creepy, funny, or just plain weird, but it's a mediocre idea for a colllection of short stories.
some i found while scrolling through the internet:
-someone is trying really hard to be evil, but everything they do turns out to be good. they burned down a bank? it was corrupt and stealing money. interrupted a wedding? if it weren't for them, no one would've noticed the child crawling towards the candles! etc.
-"why are you doing this? it's not what your wife would've wanted!!" "actually i'm following her orders, it's very complicated."
-meeting someone you've known for years but never seen in person
-romance that takes a while, the narrator is frantically trying to set A and B up
and that's all for now! this is a cool thread :D
