If you're not Hex or Flamarestii and don't want spoilers on our story, please don't read this thread!

Anyway, we can plan and discuss more here!

OK, so here's my current concept for Shora-Makra ("Water Again;" the brought-back darker version of Water/Shora) as an avatar, so you all have an idea of what I'm imagining.

Okay, I've been slowly piecing together more of the language, and even came up with an early prototype script (which definitely needs improvement), but I think I'm gonna need some more world details to flesh it out more...

So, basically I'm gonna move a little more into the surrounding territories and thier histories, in addition to our Central Sands Civilization. No civilization exists in a void after all. (Think of it kinda like how English has a bunch of bits contributed from other languages, like Greek, Latin, French, German, Old English, etc., and how the history in particular effected those results.) Anyway, so that'll most likely mean more maps, and someone who's free some time soon can take over the actual world-building stuff if they want to.

I don't mind who, or even if several people step into the role, but we've got a lot of the rest of stuff figured out, so we should probably start looking into everyday culture and historical bits around now to ground everything. Flamie or Eclipse are prime candidates right now, but everyone feel free to do whatever when you have the time. :)

Hmm, the vowels are kinda bothering me... Do you think we should go like Egyptian, which only wrote the consants, or modern Hebrew, where the vowels are denoted with little add-on symbols, but the main writing still only uses consonates? Or just come up with a more reasonable method?

Also, originally I thought that the common wrtiting system should be more phonetic, and the more scholarly script was to be more symbolic... However, I think it would be more reasonable if it was the other way around; like, common people use writing to keep track of trades / debts and the like, and would not necessarily need anything more. On the other hand, stories or more advanced literature may need to rely more on the words themselves instead of what they represent on a surface-level, as they're a bit more nebulous. What do you all think?

I'll post some of the vocab from last week as well as some of my prototypes for the script later today! Lemme know your thoughts on them! :)

Here's the most recently updated list of vocab so far! As always, any questions or suggestions are welcome; nothing is absolutely final yet!

OK, noted: pdfs do not show up on here. Here's an expanded handwritten version then.

And here's the phonetic script! (I have a bunch more previous drafts, but for the sake of avoiding unnecessary confusion, I'll just show this prototype for now.)

Also, do try the challenge, using the key (top) and appropriate hints! Bonus points if you can provide the translation from latin-ized (changed to 'English' letters) word(s)! ;)

Might take a little break with the language, since I'm realising that I really don't know too much about building languages, other than vocabulary and script/sounds...

That paired with reconsidering the larger world-building stuff may take a while, so now's a perfect time to brainstorm, k? :)

*slumps back into a puddle of research and thought*

Just letting you know that I'm alive!

It's summer so I probably won't check this very often, but I'm still out here somewhere.

Hm, just had a thought about fireflies.

Fireflies have a greenish glow, right? And they represent summer and life, whereas the stars are an empty white, since they're 'dead.' Like bones are often white, so when things die, they become stars. Maybe fireflies could even be understood as the purest for of life, or perhaps rather as an in-between that lead the dead to the living, or the other way around...

Just some potential lore / mythology, probably not for the CSC, since I'm pretty sure the desert is not the most hospitable environment for fireflies. :/

I like that! They seem like an in-between death thingy that leads you to death's door or something. Like little spirits.

Maybe magic fireflies in the desert? idk

It's a cool idea though.

Hey guys, I'm back from vacation and stuff at the moment! The language script is beautiful, Jaybells, and I love that firefly idea that they could lead the dead to the afterlife. I'll try to keep checking in.
