Magical School RP!

Petrichor Academy sits high on a cliff somewhere in an undiscovered part of Scotland, on the border between the mediocore and the magical.  The Academy has been an institute of education and magic for ages.  Here students learn things like alchemy and rune-magic alongside math and literature.  Petrichor Academy's student body and faculty are made up of both humans and magical beings.

The school has three Houses- House Kelpie, House Leprechaun, and House Roc.  Unlike other house system such as the Hogwarts Houses, Petrichor's houses do not determine dorm arrangements, sports teams, or tight social structures, and the Houses do not compete exept during the school's annual Midsummer Festival games.  Instead, these Houses represent their students' unique pursuit of knowledge and exploration, and the path they will take after graduation.  Each House has a designated faculty leader, one or two specialized classes, and at the end of the year partakes a Crusade- a House-wide quest that may be something such as finding an ancient relic or solving a mystery plauging the land.

House Kelpie represents those who seek mystery and discovery, House Leprechaun represents those who seek innovation and imagination, and House Roc represents those who seek glory and adventure.

~Dorrie~

The next day, I go to Headmistress Finnegan's office at 8 am, because I've been sitting around biting my nails for two hours and can't anymore.
"Hello," she says when I knock. I open the door. She's sitting at her desk filing papers. A book full of yellow pen marks is sitting on the desk. I recognize it as I approach the other chair: the train-driving manual that I saw in Enoch Blank's classroom.
"Why is this here?" I ask.
"Because the kelpies need to be returned to their homes, I am not about to drive a train, the teacher who's in charge of it is on holiday, and you're in detention anyway so it would be most efficient for you to do it," she says.
"I have to drive the train to wherever it's been?" I question incredulously.
"Yes, you do," she says. "I suggest that you take that manual to the front of the train and try to learn as fast as possible and then send for me when you're ready."
"Do you want me to climb the fence again?"
"The gates were never locked, did you realize that? All they were is closed."

I take the book and leave her office, then stride across the lawn and push the gates outward. It's sprinkling lightly, so they're just a bit wet. I wonder if it will end up snowing here in the winter. Then I close the gates and walk down to the train. I press the "open" button on the car nearest to me and go in, then walk down to the driver's seat.  For the next hour, I try to learn how to drive it, but it's very confusing and made more so by the yellow pen marks. But then I realize, when I am searching for the keyhole/button/power cord/whatever makes it start being operational, that it is far easier to do it by thinking to it. I leave the train, head through the gates and back across the lawn, and then go up to Headmistress Finnegan's office.
"I'm ready," I tell her.
