Interactive Solo Write

Interactive Solo Write

you open your eyes. darkness stretches out in front of you, broken by the occasional, brief spatter of your favorite color. all is quiet, and it's rather peaceful.

you try to walk around, but you can't. neither can you blink. it's like a cutscene, you think. a frustratingly unskippable one.

some kind of light piano-type music starts up. you turn around, and there's a shining figure, also your favorite color. the figure is wearing a cloak, the hood pulled down over their face. they also seem to be levitating.

"you are confused, aren't you?" they ask, but instead of speaking, words appear in front of the figure.

"this is an Interactive Solo Write. and you are invited to join... hurry, for only four people may come... it will be a dangerous adventure, but glorious nonetheless."

"will you join?"

(A) yes!

(B) sorry, but no thanks.

which button will you press?

~~~~~~~~
this is kind of a fantasy video-game Solo Write. when you see the button choices (as seen above) post and say which one you choose.
spots will be closed after four people join.
please join if you can respond to the choices reasonably quickly. if you don't respond in, say, a week, I will unfortunately have to choose for you.
there are four elements that will be assigned to each CBer who joins. I won't say what they are or who will get which one until it is revealed.
I'm so sorry this took so long, my life has been a little... crazy.
Hawkstar, part 2
Hawkstar starts walking along the left side of the path, the forest growing thick and shade-filled. Occasionally, she has to scramble over a fallen log or duck under a low-hanging branch. Mosquitos swarm in great numbers from the underbrush, and Hawkstar swats away the horrible little blood-suckers.
Soon, Hawkstar hears a different sound coming from the trail ahead. It’s... running water?
Hawkstar emerges into a beautiful, sunlit clearing. Birds sing in the trees, and a crystal-clear jet of water spurts from the mouth of a dejected-looking gargoyle, its fangs bared as if to ward off the moss and lichen that had almost entirely encased it.
The water coming from the gargoyle, instead of sinking into the dirt, falls onto a curving stone channel snaking across the ground, forming a small stream. The water glitters in the noon sun, and somehow seems to keep that sparkle as it winds into the shady woods.
(A) inspect the gargoyle
(B) follow the stream
WiLdSoNg, part 2
Wildsong looks around for a spot where she could get a good view of this place, eventually settling on a high outcropping. It’s reasonably close, and overlooks the whole valley. The way to it looks rather easy, apart from a small section where Wildsong would have to climb. She starts off for it, keeping up the pace when the ground slopes up. She hops onto a ledge, then turns and runs up the rocky, forbidding incline, because running up something like that is far faster and much more fun.
Suddenly, her foot slips. Wildsong gasps in surprise and scrabbles at the rock. Somehow, she manages to grab onto the ledge and hauls herself back up.
Wildsong takes a moment to catch her breath, then starts off again at a far more reasonable pace. When she gets to the climbing part, she scales it very carefully, as it’s getting dark.
Finally, she’s reached the overlook. Wildsong stomps on it with one foot to test the weight, and steps forward when it holds. The view would probably be rather dramatic during a sunrise, but in this light it’s mostly just nerve-wracking.
(A) stay a bit
(B) explore more
Reuby, part 2
As Reuby approaches the open castle gates, she waits for someone to do something, as is expected when approaching a rather large castle perched on a cliff. To the contrary, the castle seems to still have no idea Reuby was there.
As she walks through the gates unopposed, Reuby wonders where all the usual castle inhabitants were. It seems to be deserted.
As Reuby wanders deeper into the empty castle, the dark air seems to take on an eerie, menacing tone. Not that it bothered Reuby at all, because it didn’t.
Something echoes with a resounding clang behind Reuby, and she turns to discover the gate has closed.
(A) try to open the gate
(B) keep going into the castle
~~~~~~~~

Luna, part 2

Luna makes her way over to the steep mountainside and begins to climb. The journey to the top is exhausting, but immensely satisfying once she stands up on the top.

The view from up here is even more stunning, and Luna wonders briefly if, because this is a game, there is fall damage. She doesn't test to see if there is, though.

Suddenly, a shining light appears in front of Luna. it seems to glow as bright as the sun, and Luna steps backwards, blinking the afterimage away.

The light seems to twist, and grows into the form of a mythical beast, specifically a griffin. It glows less brightly now, enough that Luna can look at it.

(A) run

(B) stay

Hawkstar, part 3

Hawkstar approaches the gargoyle, noting that it seems to be somewhat in the shape of a snake, but with legs and wings.

As Hawkstar walks around to inspect the other side of the gargoyle, she steps on a chunk of rock or something, not a pleasant experience for one who is barefoot. After she finishes hopping on one leg for a few moments (as one does), Hawkstar searches for the rock that committed such an atrocity to her foot. After a second or two, she figures out that it seemed to be another gargoyle’s wing, the pointed stone feathers making it evident what caused such Lego-esque pain.

Quickly, she realizes that there used to be three other gargoyles to accompany the water-gushing one, their shattered pieces now strewn across the ground. There was the feathery-winged one (maybe a griffin), a unicorn-ish one, and one that greatly confused Hawkstar for a moment, as it seemed to be parts from lion, goat, and dragon gargoyles. She then realized it must have been a chimera.

As Hawkstar bent over to pick up the chimera’s worn-down, moss-and-dirt-covered lion head, she felt something not unlike a static shock as her fingers touched the stone. She leapt back, shaking her hand.

(A) try to reassemble the statues

(B) follow the stream

~~~~~~~~
WiLdSoNg, part 3
Wildsong takes a last look around before carefully climbing back down the rock cliff, a treacherous journey in the approaching darkness. When she finally reaches the bottom, the first stars are peeking out behind slate blue clouds, glittering brilliant silver.
Revealed by the indigo veil of dusk, a golden orange light catches Wildsong’s eye. The light flickers like fire some way down the valley, the exact distance hard to tell in the shadowy embrace of the coming night.
Curious, Wildsong begins to walk towards where the light is, stepping carefully around the large boulders and avoiding overhangs.
More stars have appeared by the time Wildsong grows close enough to the light to see what it is. Now, it is so bright that Wildsong has to squint.
All at once, the brilliant orange light dims to a faint haze. Wildsong opens her eyes.
Resting on top of a simple stone pedestal is a simple-looking sword.
The hilt is made of copper, reflecting the red light like fire. The grip is wrapped in leather, and the blade is made of copper as well, but slightly more polished and glowy than the hilt. It seems like a rather normal sword, apart from the flickering glow.
Words are engraved in the pedestal and inlaid with copper, the same color as the blade.
(A) take the sword
(B) read the pedestal
~~~~~~~~

Reuby, part 3

Reuby’s golden eyes narrow as she looks at the gate. Then, she turns and walks deeper into the castle.

Something seems to whisper behind Reuby. She looks back, but there’s nothing. Most likely just wind, Reuby thinks. And if it isn’t, who cares? Not me.

Reuby keeps going, despite the ongoing whispers that seem to follow her through the castle.

Soon, she comes to a dead end. The darkness here is so thick, Reuby can almost touch it.

Suddenly, the air in front of Reuby begins to swirl. It starts to shimmer a shade of unearthly violet, the color of the cosmos.

The space-colored swirl spins a few times, then morphs into the shape of an old-fashioned, elaborate gate with a row of spikes at the top. The gate still glitters with that violet light, and sparkles with silver stars.

In the center of the gate rests a large black padlock. The lock looks to have rusted through, enough to break off easily.

Beyond the star-covered gate lies beckoning darkness. The whispers have gone.

(A) open the gate

(B) try to figure out what is going on

~~~~~~~~
Luna, part 3
Luna gazes at the shining white griffin, and it seems to gaze back, although it could be gazing at anything or nothing at all with its blank blue eyes, the kind of blue you only get on a hot, cloudless summer day, where all you want to do is run through a sprinkler, drink lemonade, and read a good book.
Just looking at the griffin’s eyes has a calming effect, despite the griffin’s ferocious claws and huge fangs.
“Hello, Luna Silvermoon,” the griffin says, words appearing in front of it.
“I am Shalikon, the Spirit of the Sky.”
(A) what do you want?
(B) pleasure to meet you, bye!
