RP! Anyone want

RP! Anyone want to join me?

Rhi slumped down against the cold, stone, dungeon wall, after yet another futile attempt to wriggle her legs out of the shackles. It was hopeless to try to do anything. She was stuck here, for good or until someone came down here to get her. And bring her up to her excecution, most likely. Once again she cursed her stupidity. Why had she tried to create a magic fire? The alley had been cold and dark, but not nearly as cold and dark as a dungeon. She had known she would get caught. She had known magic was against the law. And it wasn't as if she was a real witch, one who could turn attackers into toads or whatever. And now she was stuck here. May as well give up, she thought. Can't do anything.

Then a sound jolted her out of her thoughts -- a loud, long creak as the door swung open, and light came down into the dungeon. "Anyone down there?" a voice shouted.

((*claps*

Is Aalton the Rhombus insider? It would sort of make sense.))

//Ven//

"Ven."

The quiet voice startled Ven. She raised her head from her fetal position on the floor, her face tearstained. She'd been curled in a ball on the floor of the room for over an hour now, whimpering in a rather pathetic way.

Now, though, she stood up quickly, her face composed, the picture of intimidation. "Allen. What are you doing here?"

He ignored her, striding in confidently in the way that was all too typical of those presumptuous royals. "Where's Mentira?" he demanded. "Isn't this her lodge?"

"I, ah, incinerated her," muttered Ven, glancing a little guiltily at the pile of ashes at the opposite end of the room. "What happened? Why are you here?"

"Authorities are going to be after you in n---"

"I don't care, you wretched boy!" she shrieked, stamping a foot. "Either answer my questions or die!"

He looked disconcerted and spoke. "We were ambushed by guards outside of the Rift. They took Temperance and Rhi. My, um, aunt and I..." Aalton squirmed a little bit, "sort of... had a word... and then she more or less disowned me, but let me go... or she knocked me out, anyway... She's very assertive," he finished brightly.

"Assertive, mm?" said Ven blandly. "And they took the Wickler girl?"

He hung his head. "Yes."

"You're none too happy with that, I'd imagine?"

Aalton grimaced. "I don't see how I can get her back, though, my aunt will be sure to--- to recruit her..."

"Well, Adam, it seems to be your lucky day," Ven said quietly. "We both appear to be after the same thing, and neither of our societies, as it were, are too eager to get us back..." She looked at him intently, her lip curling. "How do you feel about teamwork?"

Wow.  You know, I hadn't intended the insider to be Aalton, but wow.  I'm sold.  Excellent job, Mary.  Love the new twist.  *returns applause*

I stare at him in shock. What on earth does he mean?

He sighs. "Look at it this way," he says, getting up and walking over to a shelf on the wall. "There's magic in the air, right? Just about everywhere, except for places like the Rift or the Cliffs of Despair."

I nod. It makes sense.

"Right, and magic users work by taking magic out of the air and shaping it, using it to do things. Most people either use an incantation to shape it, or a wand or staff to pull  it out, or both." He takes a bottle off the shelf and examines the label. He shakes his head and puts it back up.

"Mother never used a wand or a staff, and she hardly ever used any incantations either. She said that with magic users being burnt right and left having magic supplies around the house was just asking for trouble."

"She was right. But most people don't dare to take the magic directly into them and shape it simply mentally. It's dangerous, painful, and very, very dangerous." He takes another bottle down.

"What are you saying?"

He turns to face me. "I'm saying that your magic is amazingly powerful, but you haven't had time to develop it."

"You mean ... that's why I can't use many spells?" It's not what I mean to ask first, but it's what comes out.

"Precisely."

"So I'd do better if I used a wand or something?"

He shrugs. "Maybe. I'm not really interesting. I don't have any reason to help you."

I think I see what he's getting at. "You want me to do something for you. Are you with some rebellion? The Triangle or something?"

He stares, and then he laughs, an oddly nasal sound. "The Triangle. You've been with the Rhombus, haven't you?"

I nod.

"What did you think?"

"Well ..." I decide to answer honestly.  "Ven frightened me a little."

He smiles. "Yes. She can be frightening. But no, I am not with the Rhombus. Or any other rebellions. It's useless to rebel. Useless."

"Then what is it that you want me to do?"

He sits back down and leans forward. "What can you tell me about your friend Temperance?"

//Trompeur//

I was trotting on the trail to the Rift when I felt a strange buzzing sensation. It was Beulah.

I closed my eyes and concentrated on what she was saying, "Rhi and Temp...Are with the Queen...Ven is...Master's calling...Got to go..."

You see, Beulah and I have a telepathic connection, so I had to tell Beulah to give me tabs on what was happening at the castle. Anyways...

I gasped, breaking the connection. "We have to get to the castle!" I cried to no one in particular. I turned Luna around abruptly, then remembered something that I had been taught.

"Please work." I muttered. I concentrated on the inside of the castle walls, then I pictured myself and Luna in it. I concentrated and chanted, "Volo ut vade illic." (I wish to go there)

Suddenly, I felt a burst of energy and a strange feeling of being pulled apart, then I landed and hit something very hard. It was grass. The grass behind the gate.

"We made it Luna." I whispered, "We're behind the castle gate. Now to find Rhi and Temperance."

I got up, tied Luna to a bush and hid her behind it, then set off.

I looked carefully for an opening, but didn't find one, then I noticed the sky darkening.

"Oh well." I said to myself, "There's always tomorrow." I lay down at that very spot and fell asleep. Unaware of the figure standing above me.

(I hope you guys don't mind my cheating. And as you can tell, Trompeur is a bit lazy.)

APC says AZUR. Azure? Is that your favourite colour?

@Olive-  *jokes* I was actually "waiting for my Muse", but as I hear they are immortal, I'd best get started anyway.

I was thinking I would create an assassin for my charrie (one of the magical assassins mentioned earlier?) but I'm debating on who to be sent after.  Just to get the plot moving while Temp and Rhi are trapped.  Any volunteers?  *rubs hands eagerly*  (Note:  I will not succeed with the assassination, just nudge characters in the right direction to *cough* rescue or action.  As far as I see, I can have Master send one after Ven or Trompeur (or Aalton, I suppose), or the Queen send one after anyone except Temp or Rhi.  It might be interesting to target Aalton or the Master.  Opinions?

((This is so awesome! I'm trying to post more regularly, sorry I went so long without posting. @Temp: Thank you! @Megan: You could be working with Lester, the wizard. His group's going to need an assassin. More details on what they're doing in this post.))

//Rhi//

"Temperance? Why do you want to know? And," I add, before he has a chance to answer, "how do you even know about her?"

"I know all things. All that happens, no matter where and when. I know-- Oh, fine," he says, seeing my expression, "I knew you wouldn't believe that one. How about: I am a shapeshifter. I can take the form of any creature. It happens that on this day I decided to disguise myself as a fly, and -- Oh, all right. I was scrying." He points at a silver bowl of water on a small table.

"It seems to me that scrying is impressive enough, without having to invent stories."

"We-ell -- you can never be too careful. It always pays to make people think you're better than you really are. Keeps me from getting burnt at the stake." He looks around nervously, then turns back to me. "Anyhoo, the queen's been telling me to scry her dear nephew and companions. Every single day." He shakes his head. "She was getting a bit obsessive. I knew that her dear nephew was after some witch named Temperance. And I knew you were with her because the last few times I've seen you with them. So I recognised you when I saw you and knew that you had been with her."

I nod. It makes sense. "But why do you want to know about her? For the Queen?"

"No."

I wait for him to elaborate.

"I'm with the Circle."

"What is it with magic and geometry? Anyway, I thought you said you weren't with a rebellion."

He laughs. The sound grates on my nerves. "The Circle isn't a rebellion, child. We agree with the royals that magic should be kept from most people. We believe that the Queen is the wrong person to decide that, though. The Circle is a group of the true magicians."

"And you want to know about Temp why?"

He leans forward again. "I'll tell you once you tell me what you know."

"Why won't you tell me?" I am suspicious of this strange man. Why does he want to know this?

"I'd like to to remember that I can help you. You could have very powerful magic, you know. I can see it. But I don't want to help you if you'll be unwilling to help me." He smiles. "If you're good at this, you know, you could start working directly for the Circle. There aren't many things a young and common born witch can do. We accept people regardless of age and birth."

I know I'm being manipulated, but at this point I don't care. "Well, I guess you know that she's Captain Wickler's daughter. And she said her mother was a powerful witch, one of the very best ones."

Lester listens without a word.

"Um. She really hates Guv'ner Tipton's daughter, I dunno why. Um. Aalton likes her a lot, it doesn't seem like she feels the same way about him. She thinks he's a bit of an idiot." I'm spilling out with every fact I ever knew about Temp -- not that there were ever many. "She knows a lot of magic. She can make this green fire, Lymefyre I think she called it, and make herself invisible. She cast a confusion spell that even fooled Ven. And Spec -- one of Ven's friends -- said that when they were trying to capture her she destroyed half an acre of forest with her Lymefyre, and she melted a helicopter. She killed Spec's whole team. When we were in the helicopter she made all these zombies, one of them killed Spec. She knows all about curses and stuff. I think she likes horses, too."

"Horses?"

"She had this horse with her, she forced Spec to take it on the helicopter. It died in the crash, and she was really upset. She really doesn't want to join the Rhombus, though, she keeps running away from Ven." I trail off. "That's ... all I know. I'm sorry it's not much."

"It might be very useful to us. You will not find the Circle to be ungrateful." He shakes his head. "She does sound a powerful witch. It is a pity to have to kill her."

Oh heck, girl, surprise us!  You could ostensibly (love that word) be the Master... although I'd check with Mary since Ven kinda has a past with him.  You could be one of the Rhomberites (hehehe), one of the Queen's magicians, a stableboy in the royal stables... another member of the Royal family (Aalton's the Heir Apparent... so not the sole option for the Queen).  The possibilities are endless!  I like the idea of someone trying to kill Temperance or Rhi... maybe working with Lestor which is why he wants to know more about Temperance?  Or your idea about the Queen trying to kill the Master is a good one too.  Like i say, I'm excited to see what you pick!

Oh and perhaps I should wish you luck with sticking to your plans... I had originally planned for Temperance to do a WHOLE BUNCH of other things early on, but the story changes every time someone writes.  I can safely say that only one of my plans has actually  worked (getting Temp to the castle and caught by the Queen).  The others have... died horrible deaths.  Laughing  So goooooooood luck!

I'll write something later... I'm at the library now and need to find some good books to read!  (Oh, and ZNZ, thanks for your support in the other thread... I really didn't want to do a shifting RP!)

((@Megan: Like Temp said, surprise us! I'm okay with you being the Master if you want. I sort of plagiarized off of my own NaNovel for 09 and gave Ven a thing for him... Also, at one point, we gave him a name, I think it was Jedrik or something? Umm, that aside, anything Temp suggested would work too, like Lester. Or you could be Aalton, because no one really "owns" him. And assassins are always luverly too. Your choice. :)

@ZNZ: Lol. The Circle. XD

@Temp: I know what you mean about planning things for characters. Sadly, I've realized that it basically never works in RPs. :) It's something different, though, because it makes you need to adjust to other peoples' writing and consider alternate endings.

I'll post later, when Megan decides who to be... Plus we're having dinner.))

@Temp: I'm only just seeing your post -- how did you know what I was planning to do (I mean have Lester try to kill Temp.)?

@ZNZ: My jaw dropped open when I read what Lester (that's how you spell his name right?) said at the end. PERFECT twist. Two thumbs up.

@Megan: An assassin would be cool. And it would make the story seem, um, more, um, I don't know. But it would be cool. And the queen trying to kill the Master would be nice. But of course the assassin could always be trying to kill Temp. (erance)

@ML: Love that twist also. ;-) I feel so jealous. I haven't added a twist. I've just added a pony. Maybe I can turn Trompeur to the dark side... *breaths like Darth Vader* I can't wait to see your post.

@Temp: *twiddles fingers nervously* When will you post what Temp(erance) does?
