 Role Playing Story

Heya, I'm going to try something new in the Inkwell, (Hoping it isn't breaking any rules.) It's called fourm role-playing. Bassically, it's like a story with many different authors. Everyone makes a character in the world, and we take turns posting the story out. There are just a few rules, otherwish you can just jump in.

1. No taking control of other people's characters.

This is common sense, please make sure you stick to controlling your charrie and your charrie only.

2. No making an all powerful charrie.

No making any charries who can destroy an entire city with a clap of their hands, kay? Again, common sense.

3. Have fun!

Self explanitory. ^-^

Let's get this thing started!

Xelix yawned, as he put his feet up on his desk. Another boring day at the Mage's Guild. Another day of deskwork. It was tedious work, having to sit at the desk, day after day, answering all questions applicants had. He had been promised adventure, not a desk job when he applied. He suspected it had to do with his age- 15, in the bigwig's opinion, was too young to go out and defeat the beasts that prowl the land at night. After all, they were only kids, right? Well, this 'kid' was very proficiant in all kinds of water magic, and could easilly knock out an un-prepared foe with a simple swipe of hardened water, which also doubled as a shield against attacks. Still, the pay was decent, and three rectangular meals a day and a place to sleep weren't anything to complain about, so life was pretty good.

He heard a small 'mew' as something brushed against his legs. He smiled at his small calico cat, Ala, who jumped on his lap and began purring cheerfully. "Well, at least one of us is happy....." Xelix yawned, stroking Ala on her head. He glanced upstairs. It was still morning, so most of the mages were still asleep in their rooms, and no one was sitting in front of the fire, (It was mid-winter) and studying some new latest spell. It was quiet, and Xelix liked it that way.

I'm making a new board. This one takes FOREVER to load. I'll summarize what we've done already. *nod*

((I'm sorry to everyone for my unexplained long absence. I've had this horrible writer's block, and couldn't think of anything. Starfire's most recent, however, gave me an idea. Phoenix, I hope this is something like what you wanted. And Mary w., thanks for the discription of Larco, something I'd neglected to do.))

Larco looked around furiously. It was the morning of their third day on the run, and Xelix had dissapeared. Larco searched the entire area, but soon decided it was no use. Cursing Xelix under his breath, he swept his sandy hair out of his eyes and trudged to the city. He still had to warn the Archmage, no mtter what had transpired.  Walking in Faerhoven and being unnoticed took patience. Every few blocks, he ducked into an alley to evaluate his situation. It was in an alley that he sighted something unearthly and bizzare. A glowing, pulsing orb hung in the air. It had an eye in it, and the eye was looking streight at Larco. Larco, understandably, was a bit freaked out. The orb was clearly magic. Xelix would have recognized it right away, but it took Larco a few minutes. Someone was spying on him. Larco ran for his life but, shockingly, the orb followed. However, when Larco drew close to the Archmage's tower, the orb dissapeared. Releved, Larco sunk to his knees on the curb. He was tired and leaned his head back. The Archmage was looking down on him.

((OK, commander kip. Now you decide what to do with Larco.))

((Thanks, Reuben. I'll be nice to him, lol.))

Larco shot to his feet, despite his weariness. "Oh! So sorry, sir, you startled me - but I must warn you -"

The Archmage held up a hand, smiling a tired sort of smile. "It's quite all right, dear boy; Larco, isn't it? I am aware of the Vicemage's plot to do away with me. Fortunately, I may have the element of surprise in my favor."

Larco was speechless for a moment, taking it all in. "But sir, how did you know... I was coming to tell you..."

A spark of mirth found its way into the Archmage's eyes. "I am a Mage, after all. Many things that are thought by others to be secret are known to me. Now," he clapped his hands in a business-like fashion, "I believe you and your friend Xeilex might be of some help to me. Speaking of Xeilex: where is he? The last I saw of him, he was with you."

"Lost him," mumbled Larco, abashed. "Sorry. I got up this morning and he was just gone. Didn't even leave a note."

"That's quite all right," said the Archmage, laying a hand on the boy's shoulders and steering him back inside the Mage's Guild. "Let's go have a peek in the Telling Orb and see where he's gone off to, shall we?"

((Ah, Luanna! Thank you thank you, Mary Liz. Mexic's name used to be Luanna. Oh, who did Mexic belong to originally, by the way? Kipin seems to have lost track.))

((Lena, you are most certainly NOT pathetic or wimpy. I'm glad to hear you don't think I'm evil, since other people seem to think the contrary... uh, my teacher... my siblings at times... :)

Reuben, does "12.75" mean you're three months away from being thirteen? I'm not so good with math but I've never seen an age written in decimals.))

After lunch with the mysterious girl, Jinni flew through her afternoon chores and returned to the maids' dormitories. The girls usually spent a little time in what could not respectably be called a common room or parlor- desolate den might cut it but the others would be the over statement of the year.

The gray room had some meager tables and chairs, a threadbare carpet, and a fireplace that was more of a hazard than a comforting source of warmth- mainly because there was very little warmth.

Some girls were huddled around the dismal excuse for a hearth when Jinni entered. They all looked up with a start, and then, seeing Jinni, looked dismayed and their shoulders slumped.

"Hi, guys, what's up?" asked Jinni, trying to be sociable. She was still technically a newvbie and was trying to make friends with some of the other girls.

"Sara's gone," said an older, taller girl that Jinni recognized as Mable. Alessandra and Ellessa nodded anxiously.

"Sara?" said Jinni. "I saw her just today."

"And no one else has since," replied Anara gravely.

**************

"Hello, Sara," said Lucifer Eggwald silkily. "You may call me Uncle Egg."

Sara raised an eyebrow, a daring thing to do under the circumstances.

"All right, that's it!" exploded Lucifer. "I'm tired of being nice. I gave you your chance!" This outburst was certainly unprovoked, seeing as Lucufer had tried being nice for about thirty seconds, if that.

Sara was terrified, but managed to speak. "Sir," she piped up, "why did you... uh... rather, how, um, did you- that is, how and why am I here?"

"No need for hows and whys now," Lucifer said nastily. "You are far too deep in for that." Pausing for effect, he continued, "You see, you are going to murder Luanna Bricyi, assist in the killing of the Archmage, and help me out with a few other things before you die a painful death yourself."

Sara's reaction was natural. "No."

"It is not your choice," laughed Lucifer unpleasantly. "You're going to be hypnotized."

Annaliese peered down the long shelves of books in the library and sighed. No Sara here, either. Where WAS she? Annaliese had already checked every room that she could get into without being seen and had seen no sign of life anywhere, save two nibbling rats and a servant polishing the armory floor. She needed to talk to Sara. Now.     Just then, she heard a shout behind her, "Annaliese! Hey, Annaliese!" It was Sara, skirts hiked up and sprinting towards Annaliese, dragging a panting Anara behind her. And what was that little grayish thing flitting about Sara's head?   Sara skidded to a halt and bent over for a minute with her hands on her knees, breathing hard. Annaliese stared in disbelief at the gray thing, which appeared to be a little clay dragon. It wasn't the actual object that was surprising, merely the fact that it was a statue - yet still flapping it's little clay wings to suspend itself in midair. As Annaliese watched, it opened it's tiny mouth and a thin stream of silver vapor shot out.   Distracting Annaliese from the statue (which had begun to fly in loop-de-loops), Sara exclaimed, "Annaliese! We've....we've..."   "Been discovered," Anara said quietly, finishing Sara's sentence.   Annaliese looked in horror from Anara, to Sara, and then frantically between both. Everything was ruined. Everything. And yet her two partners were sitting there without a hint of a frown on their faces. In fact, Sara was.....was that smiling?    Sara rushed to explain. "You see, the Archmage found out with this crystal ball thingymajig" Annaliese gasped "but he's not mad because he used to secretly study magic and he wants to teach us magic for really and truly! Us!" She beamed.

Annaliese stood rigid for a moment, slowly letting the meaning of Sara's words wash over her. Then, as they hit home, she began giggling histerically from sheer happiness. "Well, what are we doing just standing around? Let's GO!" With a shout of wild elation, she took off down the corridor, Anara and Sara racing to catch up, and the mysterious dragon figurine floating happily above all their heads.

((Oh, and there are a lot of different plot thingies going on. Can anybody possibly explain to me the various aspects of the story in not a lot of detail? Thanks.))

((Okay, Commander Kip, Mexic belonged to Phoenix, who unfortunately has semi-disappeared. Nobody's seen her for a while.

And Allison, I'd be glad to. The Vicemage is plotting to take over the Archmage's job. The Archmage is trying to train some maids in magic. This secretary, Xeliex, is on the lam, and has ditched his accomplice, Larco, who met up with the Archmage and is possibly about to help him with something. The one maid not involved in the whole magic-learning thing is Jinni, who is responsible for Xeliex's arrest in the first place. Mexic, actually Luanna, who is the Archmage's neice, is in danger of being killed by the Vicemage, along with her uncle. And we seemed to have a tiny bit of conflicting posts (as in, yours was posted three minutes after mine), so let me go back in time to explain precisely how and why Miss Sara will not be joining you for your first officially taught magic-learning social group class thing.))

The little stone dragon followed Sara as she raced along in joy. It opened its mouth to reveal a tiny, tiny man who hopped out and immediately unshrunk into a full-grown and fully-terrifying villainous-looking man. He grabbed Sara, a wicked gleam in his eyes, and waved a hand. She fainted and he stuffed her in a sack, than disappeared back to his manor on the outskirts of Faerhoven.

((And now we're back in the present...

And by the way, Lena, tell me if you want to intervene so that Eggwald doesn't hypnotize Sara, but otherwise I'll pick up that particular part in my next post.))

We made it to 111 posts before conflict happens! WOOT! Also, according to the other thread, which we're moving to, (it vanished to the bottom of Inkwell, but it's not hard to find, just click on 'last page' and scroll down to the bottom), Flickr actually didn't get to any of the maids. So, apparently, we'll just have to ignore Alison's post, if that's all right. I hope everyone isn't too grumpy about moving, it really improves page loading time. By the way, ANARA IS NOT A MAID!!! Sorry, I thought I'd clear that up. Anara is not a maid. She has secretly infiltrated the Mage's guild, is currently in hiding, and will shortly be coming out of hiding for the Magic Study Group meeting which evidently isn't going to take place. I'll have to communicate with Kipin about her being in the room where the meeting was going to take place, before everyone discovered Sara was missing and forgot about it, when the Archmage discovered Flickr wandered and comes down himself. That'd work. *nods to self*

((Wait! My other thread thingamajic didn't post half of what I wrote! I said at the top:

So sorry, Lena and Mary, for taking so long to carry on with Annaliese! No, I'm not offended anymore, Mary. It's just that my STUPID computer system would not let me get on about ten certain threads on Chatterbox for days, including this one. I would click on them, and the screen would start to flash, then a popup would appear that said "Operation aborted. Internet Explorer cannot open node Blah Blah Blah." So I'm a lot behind on the story, I apologize if I mess anything up. Oh, and there are two conflicting situations - Lena's post suggests that Annaliese hasn't talked to Sara since Sara told her about Anara, yet the Archmage's magic ball thing sees Annaliese, Sara, and Anara studying magic. I'm going based on the Archmage's view, that Annaliese has already forgiven Sara, met Anara, liked her, and they started studying magic, 'K?

That explains why I hadn't been on here.))

((Oh, I am sooo confused!

But I'll pretend that I'm not for everyone else' benefit.

Allison, the same time happens on my computer sometimes. I just hit "back" and then it works. It's MAJORLY annoying. Bleh.

Lena, Sara is not hypnotized yet but I'm about to fix that. However, I'll spare you the pain of seeing it actually happen.))

Lucifer cackled gleefully, an unusual occurence for him. He had successfullly hypnotized the little brat, whose courage immediately snapped under strain. What a little airhead. He wouldn't be surprised if this episode permanently damaged her mind. Not that it could get much worse. ((Don't take this personally!!!!!!))

She had been deployed back to her precious little palace, and he was enjoying spying on her through his crystal ball. She brushed off her pesky little friends like irksome flies, and he was delighted to see them so miffed. This was great fun.

But there was work to be done. Luanna's demise was easily arranged, but he'd decided against quick and easy. Quick and easy meant no pain, and Lucifer liked pain. He had it all planned out. Show her her parents, and then grab them away. Let her taste her thwarted hope, and then let her die a slow and agony-filled death. It would be better than Munrab and Yeliab Circus ((read that backwards... see how creative I'm NOT?))

In the meantime, though, she'd have to be removed from the scene. Simple enough. If he had more time he'd formulate a long cock-and-bull story about lost inheritance and the like, but he didn't have that luxury. Instead, he contacted Sara through a means of communication he's devised: a small wristwatch as cover for a walkie-talkie. e spoke into it, giving Sara her instructions, and then allowed himself a long bath and a whole box of chocolate bon-bons.

The Evil Vicemage likes BONBONS!!*stares incruduosly with jaw hanging open until starts to pass out from oxygen deprivation*  well every villian has to have a soft spot.  Btw.  We should start transferring everything over to the Thread Role Playing Cont.  By Starfire.  Ok?  Lots of people have already started writing in that thread.  So hopefully, this should be one of the last posts made in this thread. *crosses fingers*
