Gryphon Encounters

Gryphon Encounters

I am compiling an account of our interrogations of the Gryphon to pass on one day to my successor. I am also collecting detailed descriptions of previous sightings of Gryphon activities--or those that it will admit to. I'm starting with a story of what happened to one of our allies as he questioned the Gryphon. I'm sorry, I didn't catch our ally's name, and he fainted before I got the whole story. But if you think you know what happened next, add your ideas in the comments and help me complete the story. Hopefully together we can learn more about what the Gryphon does and what goes through its head.

Partial Account of a Gryphon Encounter: "Our ally moved slowly as he entered the cave area cautiously, trying to be brave. But I could tell he was terrified just beneath the surface. He held the cypher in his hands, knowing this was the only way to communicate with the beast. He'd only used it a few times, so he fumbled around at first, sliding his fingers on the different buttons, trying to come up with the perfect first question. Should he ask something easy, like where it came from? Or should he ask the question he most wanted to ask--the question with the answer that terrified him most? He took a deep breath. Then breathed out. He looked the creature straight in the eye. And said...

Icy....Icy....Yes! I remember you! My father would talk about you quite often. Well, not so much as you as your mother, really. I would ask about many people of your family, as my father talked about them a lot. He never cared to mention your father. He said your father was an evil man.

Here is what happened, Icicle, in case you didn't know.

One day, I was up late. I couldn't sleep, because my sister was snoring too loudly. I went to the main den to see if my parents were still up when I heard whispers. I only heard bits and pieces, such as, "He destroyed our Gryphon clan," and "Evil man, he was." Then I heard, "Beautiful and kind wife," and "Beautiful daughter, interesting name."

I do not know if this pertains to you, but if it does, I am glad to be of help. I would like to join the journey to rescue those captured unfairly by B.I.G., the Unknown Big Owls, or anybody else.

I will avenge.

Right now, I am resting my wings at the Bog & Burrow Inn. It is a very nice place. I recommend it. It has pillows made out of cotton (pillows made out of feathers would be TERRIBLE) and it has silk blankets.

But this is irrelevant. My main concern is the number of owls here. Many of them have been staring at me since I have arrived. I shrugged it off, however. Maybe they just didn't like Gryphons. I headed towards the main area of the inn to get something to eat. I chose mice and clover. I walked over to the table with my cup in my talon and sat down. But I am bigger than I thought. When I sat, I thumped the table, and the cup spilled and rolled off the table. I went on the floor trying to catch it, when I found my eyes looking at owl talons. I slowly looked up, only to find myself eye to eye with an owl.

"Another one," it whispered.

What did it mean by that?

(JUST TO LET EVERYONE KNOW. I also apologize for writing so much. Icy, you are not the only one writing a lot. But it is so much fun! I could use a character for this owl, if anyone would like to help out or join this part of the story. I will eventually figure out how to intertwine this story with the others, so it all fits together. Thanl you so much, guys!!!! Smile

I must have fainted. I feel a wet nose on my face, so I jerk my eyes open. I find myself face to face with a wolf the size of my mother, maybe a bit smaller.

“Who are you?” I ask.

Just then, I see another figure beside her. It is a human.

“We are here to rescue you,” the human replies. “Rescue you from certain death.”

“Oh, Amata, don’t scare the poor pup!” the wolf exclaims.

“Who are you?” I ask again.

“I am Amata, a human. This is my mother, Lupa. She is a rare kind of wolf that can speak the human language.”

“Oh. Well….” I mumbled. “Why do you need to rescue me, exactly?”

Lupa looks around. “This is not the place to talk.”

“Okay,” I reply. “But where else can we go?”

“The Hearth Hotel,” Amata says. “That is the safest and warmest place. The birds are flying south. Winter is falling upon us. Let’s get somewhere warm. Are you hungry?” she asks as she looks at me.

“Starving!” I reply. “All I have had are mice and clover, and I haven’t even eaten much of that!”

“Then let’s be off!” Lupa says.

We softly pad through the forest, not wanting to disturb it. Suddenly, Lupa snarls and ducks beneath a bush.

“Get down!” she growls.

We dart down with her, breathing heavily.

“What is it, Lupa?” Amata asks.

“Alpha,” Lupa whispers back.

My heart sinks. An Alpha Wolf. Around this part of the forest, Alpha Wolves don’t care who is with you. You are food to them. No matter what.

“What do we do?” I whimper.

“We wait it out and they won’t smell us. Right?” Amata asks as she glanced hopefully at Lupa.

“I don’t know. This wolf is strange. The way it is trotting around the forest is odd. Unless….” Lupa says. “Unless it is a scout. It is scanning and seeing to the area. This wolf…. It’s a spy.”

I gasp a little too loudly. The wolf jerks its head around and stares into the air. We hold our breaths, fearing our discovery. It then shakes its head and starts pacing back towards where it came from. Once it is clear out of sight, Lupa commands us to stand once again and continue our path to the Hearth Hotel.

“That was close,” Amata shudders. “Too close.”

Lightening shattered the sky as thunder poured down from the heavens.  But I didn't hear any of it. All I heard was a faint buzzing and my heart throbbing in my chest.  I should have gone back. I should have saved her.  I should have,  but I hadnt.  Why did the wind save me?  I had no importance whatsoever.  My mother, she was the one who deserved a second chance.  She was gone.  Forever.  She had loved us, taught us,  forgiven us.  And she was gone.  I tucked my head under my wing hoping for sleep, hoping to forget.

The wind howled, screaming yelling pushing.  I looked back only to see the place I had called home engulfed in fire and smoke.  My mother's eyes flickered through the red yellow wall of flames.  I understood though she had said no words.  I must leave.  I must start again.  I must hope.......

The fire was not ordinary.  It could not be called fire really it had looked and felt like flames.  But I knew  it was not fire.  It was something darker something far more sinister.  And it was following me.  At first I flew in ragged shifty flight.  My feathers were fringed and burned, yet were bitterly cold to the touch. "Pull them out" the wind had been following me, these were the first words I had made out since the fire.  I touched down opon a clearing, and pulled out the feathers one by one.  I heaped them on to a pile and set it on fire.  Afterword I washed myself in a spring nearby letting the currents carry away my worries and the thoughts that overwhelmed me.  That night was spent in a hollow oak that had probably been felled many years ago.

The next morning I woke ate and was on my way.  Something was watching me though.  I looked down scanning the trees, watching for movement.  Nothing.  The next few days were spent flying and watching.  Sometimes I spoke with the wind.  Sometimes I didn't.  Then I saw it a town or what had been a town reduced to rubble.  Humans crowded around each other crying silent tears.  I counted six, all of whom were badly wounded.  I landed and watched them.  I had never learned to hate humans nor to love them.  I started when I noticed a young human was watching me her eyes were blood red from crying.  "He took everything," she whispered and buried her face in her mother's legs.  "Everything."

I flew. I had to get as far away as possible from the town.  It was following me.  It was getting closer.  That night I drifted in and out of sleep.  Awaking from nightmares of monsters bathed in yellow light.  It was a small noise just loud enough to hear. I awoke my heart beating.  Click. Everything went black.

The next morning I woke to see I was surrounded by tiny humans.  With wings. No. It couldn't be. "Good-morning, daughter of wind,  descendent of the noble gryphon."

I stare at the creatures.  Their beautiful with glossy skin and  hair lush and full.  But their wings...... It was like staring into a glass mirror, ribbons of light weaved throughout their wings. "Your your fairies.". My voice is weak and dips through the words..." Yes, we are fairies" says a fairy with white hair tipped with green"my name is trillium," "my thoughts whiz through my head stopping and starting over and over again.  "I can't be a daughter of the wind and a descendent of of a gryphon!" Its its impossible!"  "No it isn't," says Trillium. "There are others like you, though they may not all be owl.  But let's get you to bed we will talk more at supper" and that was it.

I split off from the group. I leave Amata and Lupa. I must continue this journey on my own. It is too dangerous. I might find them later on, but for now.... I must go.

I walk where the path leads. There really is no path. Just where my heart tells me to go. It must have been a day walking and finding nothing when I hearing little chittereing. I automatically scrunch down and scoot foward, trying to figure out what made the sound.

I narrow my eyes.

It's an owl.

I find myself growling. I haven't growled before. Nor have I snarled. Something is stirring up in me. Is it hate? I have felt it once, but not this strongly. I have to retain myself.

Good, nice owl I think to myself.

I take a deep breath.

"You there!"

The owl looks startled and turns around.

The owls looks at me. "Yes?"

"Who are you talking to?" I ask.

The owl lifts up its head and looks down. "Well that's just none of your business."

I eye it suspiciously. "Okayyyy...."

"What's a Gryphon doing in these parts anyway?" it asks.

"Well that's none of your business either then, is it?" I reply, snarkily.

"Fine!" it huffs.

I start to walk again when it says something else.

"Wait!" it exlaims. "You're a Gryphon!"

I nod my head slowly.

"You better leave. I have seen B.I.G. spies around here lately," it tells me.

"Okay," I reply. "Thanks for the warning."

It nods its head. "Oh, and by the way!"

I turn around.

"Your sister. She was captured by B.I.G."

I gasp. "How do you know that?"

It smiles evily.

"Because I am one of them."

Ever since the fairies took me in I have lived close to luxury.  Except till the night I heard a blood chilling hoot.  I went out of my hollow to inspect the noise.  Settling behind a pine I peered throughout the wood, my heart racing.  Then I saw it.  An owl.  A huge owl.  The creature stares in the other direction,  every once in a while letting out a tremendous howl.  Then through the trees comes a soft rustling.  A small owl with a shifty look in his eyes peeks through the underbrush.  "Come on out," booms the great owl's voice. "We must discuss the happenings around here."  The small owl flies out of the brush.  I stiffle a gasp.  His body is only partly covered in feathers.   The rest is scales.  "You shouldn't have been so loud!" hisses the smaller owl. "You should have come earlier."   "Hmph"  Any news on the owl?". "No sir, but the message we sent in her name has taken root."  "How was it supposed to help us?"  "The creatures will stop trusting the owls throughout kyndom,  therefore as time wears on the animals of kyndom will start to scorn the owls, the birds having no one else to turn to, will join us." "Hmmmmmm."   "Then we will bring the birds to BIG; BIG will make them stronger. Then we will have all the power we need to capture." "The gryphon and the others." "Genius isn't it?" I turn around and fly as fast as I can.  I need to warn the others. Before it's too late.

I have been watching the owl for weeks now and from my speculations her name is Windswift.  Hmmm owls always seem to come up with long and advanced names.  Why not something simple like lizard? Ever since BIG blessed me with such power I have had no rest.  I do not need rest.  I am powerful and I shall make the others of my kind powerful too.  But for now I must resume my mission. I must make the owls scornful scum so that they may rise and be kings of this land.

Aahh the creatures are falling into my trap.  Only a few more deceptions and I will be able to relax and wait.  Already a young owlet has found me. I shall rename him tomorrow.  Then we will bring him to BIG.

Hey all, sorry to steal your thunder, but please post theses stories on one of the RPs, like the shall we start? and the animals one. They are great in all, but this is for the Gryphon, the Power of Wing Gryphon.

Sorry

I agree with Claaws. Shouldn't this go in Kasumi's "The Animals' Side" RP? Admin, what do you think?

I have my second fight with an owl. A B.I.G. owl, in fact. It eventually turns and flies away, sloppily because it is injured. I limp my way through the path in the forest. Then, I catch a whiff of something. It is roasted clover. I love roasted clover. I follow my nose, and I find a cottage. I am starving, tired, and thirsty, so I knock on the door. After a bit of clattering, a creature comes to respond. It opens the door. It's a fox.

"Yes?" it whispers.

"Um, hello. I was wondering if, um... well, this is quite embarrassing, but could I have a bite to eat? I smell roasted clover."

The fox looks at me strangly. It tilts its head and asks, "What are you?"

"I am a Gryphon," I reply.

The fox gasps and backs away. "You should not be here."

"W-why?" I stumble.

"There is a search party looking for you!" it exclaims.

"A search party? What? Who? Wh-"

It cuts me off. "Leave! Leave now! While you still have the chance!"

"But, but, what should I do?" I frantically say.

"Run, run as fast as you can away from here!"

But it is already too late. I hear rustling very close, only to see big humans and mutts in uniforms.

"Get him!" one of them shouts.

They try to reach for me, but I dodge them. The fox jumps in front of me and growls. It lunges at the humans. My eyes and ears are blurred. I only hear the sound of the fox's voice telling me to flee. What will happen to the fox? But there is not time to think. I have to escape, for I hear more of the humans coming. I spread my wings and leap into the sky. Before I depart, out of the corner of my eye, I see the fox stuggling to get out of a net. The humans seem angry that they lost me, but then they look relieved, for they have caught the fox. Should I go back there and get the fox? But I am already in the air. The fox wanted me to leave. This had to have been the act of B.I.G.

I fly. I fly for hours, not knowing where I am going. I feel a sense of guilt and fear. What is left for me now? Yes! Yes! I must find Caelani! She is one of the only known Gryphons left that I had contacted before. I must find her. I can only work in the company of another Gryphon. This unfortunately, is because no one can be trusted anymore.
