I walk to the door of the hut, careful not to step on any of the felich leaves that litter the ground. From inside the hut, a strange noise filters out. It's like a conversation, but with noises that are beastly, animal-like. The only animals I know are oxen, goats, and the stray cats that howl outside Juki's shack. I peer in, and see a congregation of strange monsters: a fluffy, mutated cottony creature....a monster with huge eyes and armored talons...an enormous insect, like the bjulli at home, but larger...I turn away, only to find myself staring at a slithering mass of scales, like the Patrolmen's armor. I leap back, running. Demons, there were demons! 

I arrive back at B.I.G. Labs by dawn. I immediately inform Monitor Cloi about the congregation of demons. As I describe them, her chiseled, dark features fall flat, and I sense a smile coming on.

"Good job, Kor," she says, her accent rolling my name like the wheel of a cart. But her next words stop me cold.

"We may have some use for you after all."

Am I promoted?
