"COME BACK!!!"

Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

"COME BACK!!!"

"COME BACK!!!" You cry tearfully as the dog wrenches his leash out of your hands. "COME BACK!!!" You yell again, soon realizing it's futile to yell any longer. That was your friend's uncle's friend's daughter's dog, and she had entrusted you complete care of him. You'd better start looking for him, then. As you call through the streets, you see a brown streak cross the road and head right for you! It's Marty! Except... what's that in his mouth?! It's the neighbor's cat! No, wait, it's just a cat-shaped note. Grabbing it, you unfurl it to see that it says,

The CBers fell asleep pretty quickly after that. They were very tired, and so was Turgon's dragon. They got about seven or eight more hours of deep, relaxing sleep.
But the murderer lay awake, seething.
The Baash just had to do it the dramatic way. It couldn't just sneak in and get the job done. Now the dragon's going to turn me to marble if I try to steal it. And m--Turgon is still alive. So that plan is down the drain. Poetic Panda--Poetic Panda will get what's coming to her. She...she won't have any way to foil the plan that I have. But I'll need to take control of the household to do that. I think my army is ready...It gets bigger and bigger every day.
The murderer hopped out of bed ever so silently. She snuck to the window at the back of the Dining Room--and jumped to the ground, where two magical hybrid sheep were waiting to cushion her fall.
"Bring me to...base. I have a task for the ghosts to carry out!"
The sheep ba-a-a-d softly, and started a fast trot to the murderer's hideout.
------------------------
Day 11--
------------------------
The farmer's assistant let the CBers sleep until nine o'clock. After that, it was business, business, business.
"The meeting starts in fifteen minutes. Captains, get your reports ready and come down in five minutes for an important message. Others, be down in fifteen minutes," instructed the farmer's assistant from the outside of the CBers' doors.
Turgon had been given another palette to sleep on in the nursery, and he soon learned why the farmer's assistant wouldn't let him move back to his room. It turned out that the the Pretiosum Gem dragon eats the minerals that it creates upon hatching for the first week of its life. (Turgon had barely slept that night--all he'd heard was 'crunch crunch crunch'.)
Spyro and Moonfrost got ready as fast as they could, grabbed General Firecracker and Jack, and hurried down the stairs. They found the farmer and his assistant discussing something quietly at the dining room table. The farmer looked up. "Spyro, Moonfrost, good morning. As you know, the murderer and her army, as a whole, is growing by the minute. My assistant and I have been thinking, and we've come up with many ideas that may have play an advantage over the murderer." The farmer shuffled a few stacks of blank paper that were laying beside him. "I thought I would explain to you our plans before the meeting began to go over any questions you may have.
"We are going to need bases all throughout the important places of this farm. We're going to send out a fort crew today to find and collect materials to build forts by the barn, by the gate, and in the woods. We are also going to send out a squad to check on the status of the animals in the barn. We have yet to conclude a strategy to collect our armor that the dragons have been making for us. Spyro, I need you to put together three groups of animals to be travel teams. They need to be strong and fairly smart, and well-trained, for their purpose will be to escort these groups throughout the farm. I've had the workers secretly transporting any animals they could find into the cellar through its secret entrance. They are all at your disposal. Today you need to work on choosing the three travel teams and five separate fighting squads. I know you can do it, though it may be hard. You need to form the ATU today. Three or four animal-oriented CBers will be plenty. I reccommend Turgon to be one of them, as he has the dragon's touch now. Animals will be more likely to respond to his words that way.
"Moonfrost, I will be sending groups of Chatterboxers to you at random parts of the day to go through training. While you aren't training Chatterboxers, I need you for the fort mission. Spyro, we will be needing an escort group of animals for that job, as well as the journey to the barn. Please choose them as soon as you can.
"You won't be alone in your captain positions for long. I intend to nominate more Chatterboxers to Captain position in the upcoming meeting."
Spyro and Moonfrost took a few moments to process the orders they had just been given. They looked at each other, and then looked at the farmer again. "Okay," they both said.
Just then, the first stream of CBers began to arrive for the meeting.
"How are you doing this morning," Puck yawned tiredly when she entered the dining room.
"Great," answered the four, who had already seated themselves in their chairs.
The rest of the CBers arrived, and the meeting began without hesitation.
"Good morning, Chatterboxers," greeted the farmer. "I hope you slept well last night."
Crunch, crunch, crunch. "Uh--sorry," Turgon apologized. "This dragon won't stop eating." He petted his dragon's head, which was barely visible over the edge of the table. She looked up from her snack of amethyst and squeaked at him happily.
"Well, today, lots of things will be happening. First, reports."
Spyro and Moonfrost took their cue, and Spyro began.
"The ATU is growing, sir. We have 25 fully trained animals already, and 20 more under training sessions. Those include animals from all species, from reptile to mammal to bird to the occasional amphibian."
"I've been thinking," Moonfrost began as soon as Spyro had finished, "I've decided that we need a team to go on patrols. For those of you who read Redwall, this is going to be like the Long Patrol." She looked at the farmer to see what he had to say about her idea.
"That's a wonderful idea, Moonfrost. I think we should definitely do that. You and I can talk about who will join it later. Any other reports?"
Poetic Panda and Shadow Dragon stood up. "At the party yesterday, Shadow discovered that she has a secret power. Watch this."
Shadow looked nervous as Panda went to turn off the lights. The dragon CBer closed her eyes, and, to everyone's amazement, she fizzled out of view! A few seconds later, she appeared by the light switch and flicked the lights back on.
"Wow, Shadow!" exclaimed the farmer's assistant. "That's amazing!" She looked at the farmer, who nodded and raised his eyebrows, impressed.
"My, my, Shadow, that's amazing!" he exclaimed. "And this brings us to the next promotion ceremony!" he announced as Shadow returned to her seat. The CBers looked around excitedly. "Puck, Shadow Dragon, Rosemary, please stand up. Puck, we need someone to work on crafting nets, glue grenades, and whatever creative helpful things you can think of. I won't call the spot blacksmith, but you are now our official crafter of weapons and projectiles. Your job is to create things that we can use against the enemy, as well as help in the construction of sturdy forts. You've shown extreme handiness engineering, and you deserve this promotion. Excellent job, Puck.
"Rosemary, we all know about your readiness to help others, and you are a great nurse. You are being promoted to Medic! You have shown that, although you sometimes worry, you are ready to spring into action and help a fellow Chatterboxer if the need arises. Great job, Rosemary.
"Shadow Dragon, you have always been excellent at sneaking. You were always the quietest in the training sessions, and this newfound power will help you spy and sneak immensely. You are now our Stealth Master. You, along with Spyro, Moonfrost and Puck, are now part of the Strategists. Your jobs are to plan--to plan strategies, battles, forts, and whatnot. Your contributions in this war will be indespensible. Congratulations, everyone."
The cheers were once again deafening as the CBers congratulated their friends. Shadow, Rosemary, and Puck were smiling and blushing profusely as they got slapped on the back, hugged, and wished luck by their friends.
The farmer raised his hand for silence. "Before we continue, I have another thing to adress. I have been thinking, and I now know how we are going to communicate with our fallen CBers. If--and I sincerely hope this does not happen ever again to any of you--but if the murderer strikes and you are the victim, you must bring the other ghosts up to date on what's happening. I certainly do not intend on letting you die for the mere purpose of giving our ghost friends peace of mind. But this is something you must remember for the future.
"Today's mission? The captains will meet with me after this gathering is dismissed. The rest of you will follow my assistant to the backyard to train a bit more. You will be chosen to either join a squad that will go to the barn, join Spyro in the ATU, join the Long Patrol, or join one of two groups that will begin the construction of forts and bases around the farm."
The murderer seethed inwardly. Doesn't intend to let us die for the mere purpose of giving our ghost friends peace of mind??? Mhm. Likely story.
"Turgon, are you still willing to allow your dragon to join the battle?"
The AE nodded determinedly, letting the little Pretiosum Gem suck on his finger.
"Okay, if you're sure. Now, my assistant will now lead you outside for an advanced lesson on the topic of construction."
The CBers who weren't captains followed the farmer's assistant outside. Shadow, Spyro, Moonfrost, Puck, and Rosemary stayed seated.
"I have already given Moonfrost and Spyro instructions," he began, and recounted what he and the two captains had gone over earlier that morning.
"Now, Moonfrost, who were you considering adding to the Long Patrol?"
Moonfrost looked pleased that the farmer had used the name she had picked out for her patrol. "I think it should be Over the Rainbow, since she's got great aim with her bow, Shadow Dragon, me, a few animals for protection, Princess Icicle, who's really good with that slingshot, and Poetic Panda."
The farmer nodded. "Good choices. We'll call them in momentarily. Spyro, who do you want to be part of the ATU?"
"Turgon, Joss, and...Well, how about...Booksy Owly."
"Excellent." The farmer arose and exited the room.
The captains sat, thinking silently. The farmer returned quickly with Turgon, Joss, Booksy, OtR, Icicle, and Poetic Panda. The captains noticed the excited looks on their new recruits' faces and knew that the farmer had already explained to them their missions.
"Turgon, Joss, Booksy, you'll be in the ATU. The Long Patrol will include the rest of you. Here are the things you need to do today."
The farmer was all buisness: He dismissed Spyro and the ATU to the cellar and gave him two hours to work out the eight groups of animals--three for defense, five for offense. He gave the Long Patrol their instructions; they would first go to the barn (once they had their animals, of course) and note the status of the barn and its newfound prisoners. The Strategists; Moonfrost, Spyro, and Shadow Dragon, would collectively take that information and form a plan as to how we can get the armor, which was with no doubt finished by now, from the baby dragons in the mine. They would then split up and join with two groups of other CBers to find fort locations.
"Long Patrol, while you wait for Spyro to get the animals, I need you, except for Moonfrost, to go help him. It's a lot of work to do in two hours for just four people. Moonfrost, you will come with me to asess the other Chatterboxers on their skills, and I will send those who need extra help to you to train one at a time. Puck, start designing forts we can build."
The CBers scattered off, each on their own mission.

WOO HOO! I just realized that I'm almost done typing this story! So my challenge to myself is to finish writing it BEFORE its birthday, and post the last installment that day, too! If that's even possible...I might not make it, but it's like my own NaNoWriMo--finish it before the last day of November!

So here's the next installment! (Coming up in the next post; I have to see where we left off.)

Spyro sighed as he heard the footsteps of four more people joining him in the poorly-decorated cellar. Honestly, he could do this by himself. The farmer just didn't get how the animals interacted with him. Too many people asking what they could do to help just distracted him. This was serious buisness...Maybe he could just get Turgon's help and get the job overwith. Spyro turned around and saw Shadow Dragon, Over the Rainbow, Poetic Panda, and Princess Icicle running down the hallway to catch up.
"Do you need help???" they shouted.
"No!!!" Spyro answered.
"Well, uh, can we stay down here anyway?"
Spyro let out a long groan. "Fine."
The Long Patrol caught up with the ATU just as Spyro sent Turgon, Booksy, and Joss into the bird room to grab a few ("Labled! Do NOT grab the unmarked cages!" Spyro had said) cages of birds.
Spyro then led the Long Patrol past another door, through which he sent his new helpers in to grab the herps (reptiles and amphibians) he'd been training.
Having already told the CBers where to meet him, he unlocked the door to the mammal room and waltzed on in.
The mammal room was the largest of them all, about the size of a school gym, complete with corrals, animal pens, and of course magical walls and ceilings that made the room look like it was outside in a lush, blue-skied, slightly hilly pasture. A countless assortment of animals grazed in their pens, from normal mammals like cows and deer to magical mammals like a moose-like thing with green mossy fur and enormous branchy antlers. Graceful, blue star-spangled foxes played in an enclosed rocky mountainous area, and hot-pink pigs the size and shape of baseballs snuffled around in a dusty fence. (Just to name a few of the animals--there were also jackalopes, pegasuses, unicorns, cloud creatures, etc.)
Spyro was deep in thought, planning which animals he'd include in a single squad, and he barely noticed a few workers coming in through a door hidden inside a grassy slope with an injured animal on a stretcher.
The dragon AE shook his head and got to work. He lined up eight bicorns, including the two from the previous expedition, in the clearing in the middle of the large room. The rest of the ATU then arrived with two travel cages containing a fire-breathing African grey parrot in one and a ridiculously large conure in the other. It looked uncomfortable in the small portable wire enclosure.
"Thought we'd start with the hard ones first," Turgon gasped, carrying the heavy conure with the help of Booksy and Joss.
"Uh...Who's carrying the parrot?" Spyro asked, alarmed, as the African grey parrot's cage seemed to scoot in on thin air.
Turgon grunted, and answered, "My dragon."
Spyro raised his eyebrows, but then he continued along with his work, showing the foursome where to drop the cage.
The Long Patrol entered just as Spyro had finished assembling his squad-worthy mammals. When he saw the patrol group enter, he shook his head.
Shadow Dragon had an alligator draped over her back, a monitor lizard laid from her head to her tail in a sleepy position, two of the three dinner plate-sized, non-toxic poison dart frogs stuck onto her wings, and a komodo dragon under her arm.
The others had grabbed the last few herps; a seven-foot salamander was supported by all of their arms (its tail was curled around Panda's neck), the last and biggest neon green poison dart frog croaked loudly from the top of Princess Icicle's head, and a large albino Burmese python (with vampric powers that drained energy from other living things to keep itself alive) had coiled itself like an oversized belt around Rainbow's waist. The CBette looked apprehensively at the contented face of the snake as it slowly absorbed her body heat.
"And I suppose there weren't any spare tanks," commented Spyro drily.
The purple dragon AE hadn't focused on training reptiles as much as he had birds and mammals, so while the rest of the ATU gathered the remainder of the birds, Spyro ordered the Long Patrol to help him with the mammals.
After fifteen more minutes, the 25 fully-trained animals were lined up, sorted according to their species.
"Okeydokey." Spyro clapped his claws together. The ATU and Long Patrol stood around awkwardly, waiting for Spyro to give them a job.
"I know, I know, you all want a job. I COULD do this by myself, but I'll admit, I could certainly use some help in a few departments."
Spyro grinned. "Over the Rainbow, your job is to stand on the left side of the room. I want Poetic Panda to go the right side of the room. The rest of the Long Patrol can stand by the hill way back there." Spyro indicated the hill with the hidden door, from which suddenly emerged two workers carrying a large box containing what looked like seven baby, feathered foxes peering curiously around.
"Um, do we actually get job jobs?" Poetic Panda wondered loudly from the far side of the room.
"Yeah, you get jobs all right. Just hang in there!" Spyro called back. He pulled the ATU into a close circle. "Turgon, Booksy, Joss," he began. "we need to make eight groups of animals. Three to be escorts, and five to fight. So, let's start with the escort groups."
Spyro stood in front of his surprisingly well-behaved crowd of soldiers. "Ok, bicorns number one and seven, go stand by Poetic Panda's left arm."
The double-horned unicorns gladly obliged.
"Bicorns number five and two, stand by her right arm. And bicorns four and six, stand behind her."
The CBers watched, their jaws hanging open in amazement, as the animals simply trotted over to Panda, as if they'd understood Spyro perfectly well! Not to mention they'd looked extremely happy about it!
"All right, the escort groups have their defenders. Two bicorns each? I'm being generous. You guys should feel honored that I want to protect you so much."
The CBers rolled their eyes. Spyro grinned toothily and spun back to his work.
"Nexty next--some birds. How else will the groups communicate with each other? Let's get some falcons on the job."
Spyro sauntered over to the falcons' cages and unlatched them. "Swoop'll be on the left team," ordered Spyro, "Dive'll be on the right team, and you," he said, indicating a strange tourmaline raptor, "will be in the back team."
The birds of prey were by Poetic Panda in an instant.
"Now, for some aerial defense!"
The communication raptors tried not to look offended as Spyro called three magestically large birds out of the crowd to become the flying defenders.
"Hey, ATU, are you going to stand there or help me?" Spyro snapped, startling his three helpers.
"We'd help, if we had a job," rebuked Booksy, slightly upset that she'd been specially chosen by Spyro to join the ATU only to recieve the job of watching him boast his talents.
"Fine, I guess I'll have to go around assigning you jobs like you're not professionals then. You get the basic idea--make sure each group gets a form of defense, communication, speed, and a strong set of claws just in case."
Joss, Booksy, Turgon, (and his dragon), and Spyro rapidly sorted through the 25 unique beasts, skillfully organizing them into eight different groups of impeccable order. When they had finished, the ATU stood back proudly to admire their hard work.
Poetic Panda, Shadow Dragon, Princess Icicle, and Over the Rainbow glared out from behind the inpenetrable groups of animals that had been assigned to their various body parts.
"Wonderful, wonderful!" Spyro celebrated, wiping a mock tear from his eye. "You have all done so wonderfully wonderful today."
The members of the ATU beamed. Spyro turned around to adress them and, seeing their faces, added, "Oh, not you guys. I'm talking to the animals."
The weary CBers frowned. What could they expect, working with (or for...) an AE?
"What're we going to do with these 'wonderfully wonderful' animals now that they're all organized and stuff?" sighed OtR, suspecting that Spyro wasn't quite done annoying them quite yet.
...Spyro wasn't quite done annoying them yet. "Oh," he responded offhandedly. "I think we should leave them there for now, don't you? We can show the farmer all our hard work! You guys stay there--I'm sure the farmer will be so proud."
With that, Spyro led the ATU out of the mammal room to fetch the farmer. The Long Patrol sighed. There were always the downsides of having an AE for a captain.

-------------------------

Moonfrost had just finished helping the CAPTCHAs with their slingshot practice when the farmer called her from the house. She left the CAPTCHAs to try out their new techniques and rushed inside. The other captains were already sitting at the dining room table, along with the Long Patrol and the Animal Training Unit.

The CBette took her seat next to Shadow Dragon and Spyro, the two other Strategists.

"Well, captains, Spyro and the ATU have finished up the animal escort groups. It's time to make a plan."

The CBers waited patiently for the farmer to start giving ideas. He just looked expectantly at the Strategists until they took the hint.

"Oh! You want us to make a plan?" Shadow realized.

The farmer nodded and sat back in his chair. "I'll watch and make sure there are no holes in your end result."

Moonfrost and Shadow looked at each other nervously, while Spyro and Puck flicked back and forth a crumb on the tabletop, their brains having suddenly vacated the area.

Finally Poetic Panda spoke up. "Didn't the farmer say this morning that we needed to check on the prisoners at the barn and send out two groups to build forts?"

The farmer cast a secret glance at the CBette, a look of knowing shining deep within his eyes.

When that yielded no result, Panda continued. "So," she prompted, "shouldn't Moonfrost start planning out the groups; who should be in them; and Spyro should assign animal escort groups to the three total teams? Puck can discuss her fort ideas and then you'll be all set to come up with a logical plan..."

The Strategists couldn't argue with that; with the help of their friends, they hesitantly began their plan-making.

~ ~ ~

"We're going to need three groups of CBers," Moonfrost began.

"I've designed the three animal escort groups to have one main team that sort of keeps contact with the other ones. Kind of like a main walkie talkie; it's the head group, with two communication birds. That one should have us in it, if we're going."

"Good thought, Spyro, I'll keep that in mind when I assign CBers to their squads."

"Should you make an extra team to carry supplies to and from the fort sites?" Puck asked.

"Great idea."

"I only have three animal groups," Spyro reminded them.

"We'll have to reuse the barn squad's escort. When they get through with their mission they'll start sending supplies to the others," Moonfrost suggested.

"Ok, do you have good communications in every single group?" interjected Shadow Dragon.

"What do you take me for, an amateur?" Spyro retorted. "Of course I do!"

"Sheesh, I was just making sure."

"Ok then, our basic plan is this: Three groups of CBers, soon to be specially picked, will go on missions. The captains will join them in one way or another; some in the main group and one in each of the other two just to keep things together," Moonfrost restated.

"The main group will order the other two, and when the barn group--we'll call that our specialty group?--can start their next mission of sending supplies to the fort groups," Shadow affirmed.

"The CBers here, I imagine, will be responsible for gathering the supplies; the specialty group can actually send them out. It should have an even number so it can get split up," said Puck.

"The Long Patrol will be assorted throughout the teams, also," Moonfrost added as an afterthought.

"Sounds good!" they cheered. "Now, to adress the details."

Moonfrost started by organizing the groups. "How many Chatterboxers should be in a group?" she wondered.

"Definitely at least one captain, some of the long patrol, one ATU member, and a few of the others," Spyro insisted.

"Awesome idea. Long Patrol..."

Icicle, OtR, and Poetic Panda looked up. Shadow did, too, but she knew she probably wouldn't be chosen for this upcoming task.

"It seems as though there are three of you who aren't capains," Moonfrost said, stating the obvious. "So one of each of you will be in a group. Who would like to be in the fort groups?"

Over the Rainbow raised her hand, but that was it. "Ok, Rainbow, you can be in Fort Group Number One. Does anyone have some paper?"

Puck produced two slightly crinkled pieces of blank paper from a small stack in her lap, which the CBers assumed to be her construction plans, and handed them to the captain of weapons.

Moonfrost drew three large rectangular squares on one sheet of paper. She labled them 'Fort Group No. 1', 'Fort Group No. 2', and 'Specialty Group'. She drew Over the Rainbow's name in the first box, and wrote LP next to it, presumably to represent Long Patrol.

"Ok, both of you can't be in the specialty group. Princess Icicle, you're going to be in the second fort group. Panda, you'll be in the specialty group, if that's all right."

Panda nodded. She didn't mind which group she was in.

"Next, we need some captains in these groups. I was thinking that maybe Puck, Spyro, Rosemary, and I should be in group number one, (which is the main group.) Shadow, you can be in the specialty group--you'll be needed to help them sneak around--and...oh, well, we're out of captains now." Moonfrost tapped the table thoughtfully. "Who wants to be in the second fort group?"

How about Rosemary? Jack suggested.

I was considering it, replied Moonfrost, but it would be better for her to stay in the main group where she can have a base. Puck needs to be in the main group, too, BUT...

After a moment of silence, Moonfrost announced the solution. "Puck, you can be in the second fort group, and send us instructions if we need any."

"Ok," Puck answered.

Moonfrost scribbled the five names into their assigned boxes.

"Joss will be in group one, Turgon in group two, and Booksy in the specialty group," Spyro declared as soon as Moonfrost was able to write the trios' names down.

Counting swiftly in her head, Moonfrost added up the number of CBers and AEs in each squad. "There are five people in group one, and three people in groups two and three." Moonfrost and Jack had been watching the other CBers' asessments, and had already deduced that Elsa, Dragonrider, Rufus, Critic A, Mortifero, and Gwen were definitely ready to join the squads...The only issue was that they needed at least a few people to stay at the house!

The barn squad doesn't have to be big. There are three people in it. Just add another and make it four! They have the animals to carry all their stuff, you know. And don't forget the CAPTCHAs!

"Well," sighed Moonfrost hesitantly. I don't want to put the CAPTCHAs in any sort of danger.

Good reasoning. I suppose they'll...be lookouts again?

  Yeah...

"We'll put Dragonrider in the specialty group. Rufus and...Elsa can be put into the second fort group. That makes five in each fort group and four in the barn group." Moonfrost neglected to mention the silent conversation she had just had with Jack, leaving the unspoken decision about the CAPTCHAs for the CBers to figure out. "Gwen, Mortif, and Critic A can stay here to collect supplies with the farmer, which they'll give to the specialty group to deliver, if we do end up starting construction on the forts today."

"Speaking of forts..." interjected Puck. "Now that we have the groups ready, why don't we discuss what we'll be building?"

The AE spread out many detailed construction plans. "I modled each one after my homemade smoke grenades...Easy to build, but really hard to break."

Puck held up her first idea. "In this one, we get wood and stick it together with snail slime. No nails needed. The only problem is, what do we put on top? Snail slime isn't hard, last time I checked."

The farmer interrupted with a suggestion. "There are a few trees called suffodio trees growing in the woods that have enormous leaves. The trunks ooze a special kind of sap that gets hard very easily. If it doesn't stay in circulation, it will harden within five minutes, turning to amber at an alarming rate. The sap surrounds the trunks of the trees, and that keeps its predators at bay--they'll get stuck if they try to get near the tree. The tree has so much sap, however, that much of it goes into the leaves for storage. The leaves harden when they're picked because they have so much sap inside that's no longer getting circulation from the tree. Just be careful not to get yourself stuck. The sap around the trees doesn't harden like you'd think. Since the tree emits a constant stream of sap, it stays gooey, and in the end, the tree's trunk gets larger and larger and larger. But there's no time for botany lessons. That was just my input."

"We can use the leaves to cover the forts. We won't need snails," Puck concluded. "Where exactly are these trees?"

The farmer told Puck the location of the trees while Shadow Dragon changed the plans. "If they're the only ones with a group of animals, we're going to have to make them collect the items as well as--"

"No, no, we've got a map right here," interrupted Puck.

(Through all of this, the non-Strategist CBers were watching the plan being made with fascination.)

"The farmer said we needed...how many forts?"

"Barn, gate, woods. Three," Spyro said.

"Right." Puck drew dots on the map the farmer had given her to represent the forts. "We've got the groups settled, the animals settled, the spots settled..." She shook her head. "Uh, as I was saying, the special group can get things like wood and carry them to and from wherever it is, but the fort that will be in the forest should be in charge of collecting the leaves. There are some right--" Puck drew a circle in the center of the woods, "--here. They'll send the leaves to the other group, they'll build the fort, and if they finish they can help the others and then move on to the other location."

The Captains swiftly discussed the route that would be taken, and five minutes later the groups had been assembled in the front yard.
