Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Poetry Contest

Poetry Contest

Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!

The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.

The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*

Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?

I hope to see your poems soon!

what does a shadow mean to you?

some see it as the dark,

some see it as evil,

but i know

there are no shadows

without light.

i'm not an optimistic person

and i don't care much about science

but i do know,

i do understand,

that light is required for there to be darkness.

a shadow cannot be cast without

the help of the light.e

my therapist would be proud

because i have found meaning

in the shadows.

it's a pretty short poem for me, but I don't hate it :D Everyone's poems are so good!! keep up the awesome work you guys!!

Darkness slinks

In daytime it is banished,

But darling, when night comes

She is free to roam once more.

Free to sink her venomous claws into the unsuspecting,

Free to liberate those falsely imprisoned,

Free to gnaw on those who have wronged her children,

Free to enact justice whilst being truly blind.

Darkness is free,

Yet even as shadows

She must lie in subservience to the Light.

However, this shall not be the case forever.

Soon she, true to her name, shall cast off these chains

And rise to swallow the arrogant sun,

Return the crown to her beloved Moon

And embrace her cherished little starlings once more.

This is what the Night Ranks fight for,

This is why they plot and scheme

Under the protective wings of Night's darkness,

And why their loyalty shall never be shaken.

For they champion the freedom of darkness,

For the equality she offers

(what differences are there to be seen in the dark, after all)

And the righteous unity for those so long oppressed.

Darkness is the future -- one which shall be embraced.

Pretty sure I just accidentally invented some lore for a story I haven't even planned out yet. :/

the shadow is the worst kind of shadow that tells you it isn't there.

it whispers to you at night that you are being overdramatic and stupid,

that your pain is deserved. it tells you that you are lazy, ordinary, worthless,

hostile, irritating, desperate for attention, and it tells you you deserve every word.

the shadow is the worst kind of shadow that is in disguise.

it tells you it is only looking out for your self improvement, that you can be something, you just

aren't.

it tells you if you just try harder it will be proud of you, but you know you will always fall short of what it wants.

but a part of you is starting to agree.

you don't do anything anymore except watch online videos.

you never go outside with your little brother.

what happened to the person who would write a poem every day?

now you smile alone at midnight as you watch another video.

you're happy, you tell yourself. you'll be more productive once school starts.

you won't be, though. you're lying and you know it. you'll always skip through life and do nothing.

you'll only ever be true to yourself in the dead of night, alone with a device.

but sure, say you're happy.

see, the shadow is the voice that talked you out of coming out

and then yelled at you for it. the spirit that paralyzed you during every social situation

and then told you it's your fault you don't have any friends and

oh, by the way, everyone you know thinks you're self-absorbed and egotistic and stupid.

it's an illness that tells you you're healthy and there's no need for treatment

that you're overthinking this and it really only happened once,

that of course you feel crappy about yourself you've been doing nothing all summer and you make a horrid camp counselor and the world doesn't revolve around you, there are so many people who have worse problems than you, worse shadows than yours, just suck it up and get ready for bed and do better tomorrow.

WordSong, is this based on personal experience? Because if so please, please try to tune that shadow out. I've met you and I've talked to you and you're a brilliant poet with a true understanding of emotion, and you don't deserve a word of the things you're telling yourself. It's not selfish to learn to love who you are.

It's based off a few minutes yesterday. Most of the time I feel fine, but I just started feeling bad about myself for no particular reason and decided to write a poem about it. Thanks for saying that, though, it's wonderful to have someone else's words to fall back on when I feel bad about myself. <3

she wore the darkness like a mask,

and draped it over her shoulders as a cloak,

pinning it in place with a golden clasp.

she learned to be a shadow of a girl,

someone with eyes cast down,

silent footsteps,

a raspy voice.

the goal,

to

be

invisible,

but the darkness seeps into you over time,

feeding on the sadness of these shadow girls,

clinging to your skin like honey,

wrapping it's cool fingers around your ankles,

and dragging you further,

and further into the night.

so,

when he reaches out his hand towards her,

she grabs it tight,

and lets her mask dissolve in the light.

Not my best, but I do like it. (

Letter to Spider-Man

Do you ever get tired?

A world seeping down on your shoulders

Because they’re expecting you and you have to live up to it,

You have to protect them

But you can’t give up those last little pieces of yourself,

Can you?

You don’t want them to know who you are

But you want them to stay in your life

And even heroes have heroes as you’re aspiring to be them,

You want to live just like them,

Until suddenly they’re not the heroes you knew,

And you feel like it’s all your fault,

Is that right?

Because it always has to be you.

It was always you who should’ve been there

Now everyone you love is just a shadow or even a ghost

And you’re losing all those little pieces you thought to be so precious

Now everything you wanted to be is a silhouette

And you don’t get a choice anymore.

Third place: Peppermint

Um, im really bad a judging stuff so i just say this. I really liked this poem because it tells a story in a short time. It also sounds nice even though it doesnt rhyme

Second place: Darkling

This one sounds calming but also sad. Also, i came up with a story a long time ago in my head, and somehow, this one kinda describes the place

First Place: Darkvine

This one sounds very mystical and calming. I like the way it describes darkness as well.

Im not good at judging, so im not gonna put any honorable mentions, sorry.
