Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Thunderstruck right outsi

Thunderstruck right outside your window and you let out a gasp as you were dragged from your dreams. The rain was pounding on your window, and lighting lit up your room in quick, silver flashes. You reached over and grabbed your water from your bedside...only to find that it was empty. You licked your lips, debating, is it worth it to leave your warm bed for some water? Of course it was.
You padded through the house, your bare feet freezing on the tiled floor of the kitchen. The house was shaking from the force of the wind, picture frames shaking on the wall. Maybe you should seek some safety in the basement? No matter, the storm was already subsiding as you brought your glass to your lips. Cool, freshwater slid down your throat chilling you from the inside out.
And then something happened you’d never suspected. Your doorbell rang, in the middle of the night. During a crazy storm. Sleeping was no longer an option, so you walked to your front door and opened it. Sitting on the doorstep was a package. Curious, you took the package inside.
Sitting in your favorite reading chair, with a pair of scissors in your hand, you opened the package up. Inside, sitting on a pile of clothes, was a message.
Dear Detective,
I am aware that you are retired, but I am hoping that your old outfit will bring you some interest in this case. My opal brooch has been stolen tonight and I hope that you can help figure out who did it. You will be pleased, or upset, to know that you will be having help in this case, as I have messaged the top seven detectives in the world. I know how much you detectives like your "Watsons", so you are able to bring with you ONE AE each. I will offer you a temporary home in my mansion, the Moonless Hunt. Please come soon.

   Sincerely yours, Madame Suspectum.
You held up your old outfit and grinned, a case was afoot. You had a feeling that this “Madame Suspectum” had more secrets hidden in her home than a stolen opal.
~~~~~~
Yes, this is a ski lodge. I hope that you will agree to help Madame Suspectum with finding her brooch. Please bring only one of your AEs, the mansion only has room for 7 CBers and one companion for each of them. To ensure that your stay is as comfortable as it can be, please fill out this information sheet.
Day Three, Part One
~~~~~
The CBers were woken the next morning by loud thunder crashes and lighting flashing in the windows. Many of them grumbled about the ridiculous amount of rain this place gets and rolled out of bed. Might as well get started the thought. Looking at their clocks, however, revealed that it was only 3:00 in the morning.
They fell asleep until it turned a more reasonable hour. Except for one. Sirfire had never been able to sleep during thunderstorms (at least, when she woke up during one…) and quietly snuck her way out of her room, which was on the third floor.
The house walls creaked and groaned from the wind, giving everything a strange haunted house feeling. Sirfire was going to make her way down to the kitchen, perhaps some warm milk would calm her nerves, when she saw lights coming from the room at the end of her hallway. She crept over, grateful for the thick carpets that muffled her footsteps, and looked through the door’s crack. It was a library! And sitting inside of the library was an old man.
He looked up and smiled, “You couldn’t sleep either, huh. Don’t be shy, why don’t you come join me.”
Sirfire smiled and sat in a cushy chair next to him. The big fireplace had a fire going that lit the library up with flickering orange light.
“You’re Mr. Misellus aren’t you?” Sirfire asked.
“Why yes, yes I am.” he said. “Do you want me to tell you about the night the opal was stolen?”
“Sure, why not.” she said, settling deeper into her cushy chair.
Well, I remember it like it was yesterday, around 9:00 I was heading to the library to do some studying…
“Did you notice if Henry was still awake?”
Why yes, his lights were on when I walked by his room. Anyways, I had left a map I was studying in the library earlier and I wanted to go grab it real quick. When I got there I found Lady Sparrow reading, which was surprising to me. She doesn't seem like the reading type. We chatted for a little while, about Moonless Hunt’s history, when the lights suddenly went out. Lady Sparrow screamed and the lights snapped on, they were only out for a second. I blame the wind. Anyway, it was around 9:30 when the light went out, I know because I had to reset the clock in here. Lady Sparrow and I left and bumped into Magnus, who was going downstairs. I spent the rest of the night watching T.V in my room. Then morning dawned and Suspectum was raging about her missing opal.
“Really… I see…” Sirfire said, “Thank you for your time.”
“Anytime, anytime at all. Perhaps you would like to listen to a little of the Moonless Hunt’s history while we’re here.”
“I would like that.”
~~~~~~
I hope you’re paying attention dear readers, already we have some discrepancies in our tale. If you pay attention you can find the hidden clues. Feel free to post your thoughts, I am always interested in seeing your ideas.
And if you’re interested in guessing my real identity, then you will find clues for that in the story as well.
Quick question, why are the options for gender only male or female? There are other genders like mine, just thought it's a little exclusive.
A simple reason, it's easier for me to write he/she pronouns and is also easier to remember. That way I don't have to look over the character sheets to make sure I've got the gender right. Call it lazy... because it is. XD
Also, HeroesOfOlympus... so glad you're enjoying it! It makes me so happy that other people are reading it, not just the ones in the Ski Lodge.
I am so sorry! I just saw this thread. Please be assured that I did not mean to copy your introduction in any way when I wrote my own (on the thread titled "It Is A...", which is currently on the first page of Pudding's place. Again, I'm sorry!
Day Three, Part Two
~~~~~
“The Moonless Hunt Mansion was built  by Madame Suspectum’s great-great-great-grandmother, which was unusual for that time period. I’m sure you know that back then women were not given much respect, or allowed to own property. Thank goodness that’s a thing of the past! Anyways, her grandmother was known to all as Solis Ros, however I suspect that this wasn’t her real name. I’ve always thought it strange that her picture was never on the wall… but I digress. It took her 30 years to finish the mansion and her descendants have been living here since. The time there was not very peaceful at all and they were often attacked and robbed. That was why the secret passages were made… Solis Ros apparently was not a fan of conflict.”
“Wow… where are the secret passages?” Sirfire said.
“I don’t quite know… the passages are kept secret.” Mr. Misellus said with a frown.
A clap of thunder shook the mansion and rattle the bookshelves and a strange picture on the wall.
“What’s that?” Sirfire asked.
“Why, it’s the Hunt’s coat of arms, a rather strange thing to be sure. I’ve always wondered what the story behind it was. Sadly I’ve never figured it out…”
And then, from nowhere, a hand grabbed Sirfire.
“AHHHH!!”
“Hush now, don’t be frightened.” a familiar voice said.
“Secretary!” Sirfire gasped, “You frightened me!”
“I am so sorry, but it’s time for you to be going back to your room. The storm should be easing up soon and I would hate for you to stay up all night long.”
“Hey… wait!” Sirfire said. “Before bed can I ask you a question?”
“Why yes, of course.” she said.
“What’s up with the coat of arms? I’ve never seen such a strange shape.”
“Why, it’s a three pointed star!” the Secretary exclaimed. “Solis Ros was quite a fan of threes.”
Sirfire soon found herself in her room… when did that happen? She was getting quite sleepy now that the rain was slowing to a drizzle, so she collapsed onto her bed. She was soon snoring away.
Of course, when Sirfire was drilling the Secretary she didn’t notice when Mr. Misellus disappeared…
~~~~~~
And that's the end of part two! For those people who are trying to figure out the stream of gibberish that was on the note… I have left a small hint to help you solve it. If you do manage to solve it don’t be afraid to post it!
And hopefully the picture of the coat of arms will show up...
I think I cracked the code! I got: The opal is the key. Is that right?
submitted by Jade J.
(May 21, 2020 - 9:42 pm)
So solis means sun...in texting ros means right on schedule....does this have to do with the solar eclipse?
(May 21, 2020 - 4:29 pm)
Jade you cracked the code!
Why the opal was taken,
Now everyone knows
The plot begins to thicken...
~~~~~~~

I'm having a little too much fun doing these ryhming answers...

~~~~~~
Now Sirfire your sleuthing is correct,
But things aren't as they seem.
If the dots are connected,
They become misleading...
~~~~~~

Also, we're going to be a little busy this weekend, I might not be able to post a new post until... probably Tuesday... uhhh we'll see though!
