Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Thunderstruck right outsi

Thunderstruck right outside your window and you let out a gasp as you were dragged from your dreams. The rain was pounding on your window, and lighting lit up your room in quick, silver flashes. You reached over and grabbed your water from your bedside...only to find that it was empty. You licked your lips, debating, is it worth it to leave your warm bed for some water? Of course it was.
You padded through the house, your bare feet freezing on the tiled floor of the kitchen. The house was shaking from the force of the wind, picture frames shaking on the wall. Maybe you should seek some safety in the basement? No matter, the storm was already subsiding as you brought your glass to your lips. Cool, freshwater slid down your throat chilling you from the inside out.
And then something happened you’d never suspected. Your doorbell rang, in the middle of the night. During a crazy storm. Sleeping was no longer an option, so you walked to your front door and opened it. Sitting on the doorstep was a package. Curious, you took the package inside.
Sitting in your favorite reading chair, with a pair of scissors in your hand, you opened the package up. Inside, sitting on a pile of clothes, was a message.
Dear Detective,
I am aware that you are retired, but I am hoping that your old outfit will bring you some interest in this case. My opal brooch has been stolen tonight and I hope that you can help figure out who did it. You will be pleased, or upset, to know that you will be having help in this case, as I have messaged the top seven detectives in the world. I know how much you detectives like your "Watsons", so you are able to bring with you ONE AE each. I will offer you a temporary home in my mansion, the Moonless Hunt. Please come soon.

   Sincerely yours, Madame Suspectum.
You held up your old outfit and grinned, a case was afoot. You had a feeling that this “Madame Suspectum” had more secrets hidden in her home than a stolen opal.
~~~~~~
Yes, this is a ski lodge. I hope that you will agree to help Madame Suspectum with finding her brooch. Please bring only one of your AEs, the mansion only has room for 7 CBers and one companion for each of them. Day Five, Part Three
~~~~~~
It was around 9:00 when I got back from a little get together with some friends. I don’t see them that often because they live far away, but I was glad to get the chance to see them. I walked up stairs to my room, which is on the third floor, next to the library. I was just about to go change into something more comfortable, when I heard a crash from the library. I went to check it out and found Dolores picking up some books off the floor. I went over to help and asked her if she was OK.
She didn’t answer, just looked at me like I was a cockroach or something, and left me to finish cleaning up! Ungrateful little brat. It took me a while to get the books cleaned up and I was about to put the last up when Mr. Misellus came in. That was around 9:15 and we stayed to chat for a while. Mr. Misellus seemed distracted, kept looking down at a folder he was holding like it was a precious gem or something.
And then the lights went out.
When the lights came back on Mr. Misellus’s folder had disappeared. That was around 9:30 if I recall correctly…. We left after that and ran into Magnus on his way downstairs, that was around 10:00 I do believe…
The CBers listened and took notes in their notepads, after Lady Sparrow’s story was over she got up and left, leaving the CBers to their thoughts.
“Has anyone noticed how disjointed their stories are?” Moonshine inquired.
“How so?” Bluebell asked.
“Well… Henry said that Professor Insolitus left the kitchen at 10:00… so how did Lady Sparrow and Mr. Misellus run into him at 10:00 all the way up on the third floor? No one moves that quickly.” Moonshine exclaimed.
“And another thing, Professor Insolitus said that Lady Sparrow was standing at the exit to the hidden tunnel to his lab, in front of that picture on the first floor, but she didn’t mention stopping at all in her story!” Mary pointed out.
“Hmm…” they hmmed.
“The only answer is that they’re all lying and only putting a little bit of truth in the stories.” Moonshine said.
They frowned, how were they to pick out the truth from the lies then? And the answer is, they couldn’t.

And so the mysteries are ramping up... don't worry, all will be revealed in time!

Day Five, Part Four
~~~~~~~~
Cynthia, Ivy, Sirfire, and Night walked through the quiet, peaceful house, wary. It seemed so peaceful, with the chandeliers lighting up the dust mites that drifted through the air. All in all it was quite a peaceful hallway, a hallway that smelled of cinnamon and apples.
Wait… cinnamon and apples? The CBers followed their noses back to the kitchen, while they were gone someone had entered and began to make some mini apple pies.
The person inside the kitchen had some music playing, songs from Mama Mia, and was dancing her way around the kitchen. Her blonde hair waved as she swept around the kitchen, pulling pie tins out of the oven and cleaning up.
“Uh… hello?” Cynthia said.
Dolores, (for who else could it be?), looked up from her pies and stared at them, with eyes wide and mouth slightly open.
The CBers shifted uncomfortably as she stared at them because her big grey eyes seemed to bore into their souls.
She smiled as she set up the kitchen table, laid out four freshly cooked apple pies, and pulled out some vanilla ice cream, which she left on the table.
“Why isn’t she saying anything?” Sirfire whispered.
“I don’t know… but those pies smell delicious!” Ivy said.
She led the way to the table, sat down on the cushioned seats, pulled her pie close, and piled a mound of ice cream on top of it. Ivy took a big bite and grinned.
“This tastes wonderful!” she exclaimed.
The CBers broke down and joined Ivy at the table, where they dug into the pies as well. Mouths full and chins sticky from the pie, they sat in silence. Dolores joined them at the table and nodded to herself, it seemed like she was pleased to see the CBers enjoying their pie.
She waved her hand around, very strange she was, but something about those hand movements were familiar to Night… and then she realized why.
“You’re mute!” Night shouted out, then felt embarrassed that was very rude of her...she was spending far too much time with Dynasty.
Dolores smiled and clapped her hands, it seemed Night had figured out why Dolores never talked… because she literally couldn’t.
“You know American sign language?” Cynthia asked.
“I read about it and decided to study it… I thought that I would never get the chance to use it!” Night admitted.
“Hey, that’s pretty cool!” Sirfire said.
And then they heard a loud gasp and the clanging of a fork being dropped. They looked to the sound and found that Ivy had disappeared, her and the chair she was sitting on.
“Ivy!?” they shouted.
No answer. She was gone. They searched the house for her, but couldn’t find her. When they returned to the kitchen they found a note sitting on the table, that read:
Stop now, you are messing with things you should not be messing with.
It seemed that the murder had left a warning for them, but it was too late to stop now. The CBers would figure out who took the opal... and the mystery that is the Moonless Hunt Mansion.
~~~~~~~~
RIP Ivy, you will be missed.
Also, here's a hint for those who are trying to guess my true identently... my AE and CAPTCHA have been hinted at (slipped in? referenced? Don't quite know the proper word...) in the story.

Day Six, Part One
~~~~
The sun rose lazily behind the mansion, trying to peek through the clouds to watch the drama unfold… but the clouds just tightened their rows, so the sun was left listening to the action instead. The clouds were, of course, sending down rain to bathe the mansion in water.
The CBer’s rolled out of bed, eyes blurry with sleep and confusion clouding their minds. Today was a lazy kind of day, a day of doing nothing. Sadly the CBers had work to do. This was, of course, scouring the mansion for clues.
They had a very small to-do list: 1. Find Dolores to interview her; 2. Figure out who stole the opal brooch; 3. Find the murderer.
They should be done by lunch! (That was sarcasm).
It appeared that everyone had vacated the mansion, leaving the CBer’s to explore on their own. Bluebell found herself walking through the mansion, alone. The CBers had been asking if they should buddy up when searching… but Bluebell found that she thought better when she was alone. And how was the murderer going to come find her if they didn’t know where she was going?
This part of the mansion, the 3rd floor, was rather creepy. The lights up here were decorated with spiders and were dimmed until they were almost off. The red carpet was thinning out, so much that some spots were bare and showed off a dark wood beneath.
OK… maybe Bluebell was starting to regret coming up here alone… it was decidedly creepy.
As she walked down the abandoned hallways and old looking doors, Bluebell could swear that she was being watched. Someone--something--was walking right behind her!
She whipped around, who’s there?
No one, just her shadow, stretched far behind her from the lighting.
Bluebell started to walk a little faster, back towards the stairs, hurrying past paintings of cats and statues of horses.
Bluebell’s shadow was stretching far ahead of her, it seemed to be speeding up as well… then it shot up the wall to her left, smiled at her, and waved.
“AHAAAHAHAHA!!!!” Bluebell screamed.
And then Bluebell fell through a hole in the floor, a jet black hole that hadn’t been their moments before.
When the CBer’s found their way upstairs, searching the Bluebell, they couldn’t find her. She had disappeared… into the shadows.
~~~~~~~
Ho ho… Bluebell isn’t dead, don’t worry! You’ll just have to wait until Thursday to see what happens next.
~~~~~
And on a different note... my CAPTCHA just said the closet thing to a real word "vucat"
They said "cat"! I'm counting it, they said a real word!
Day Six, Part Two
~~~~~~~
Bluebell landed on an extremely soft pillow and kicked up a cloud of dust that laid thick on the pillow. Bluebell started coughing as she struggled out of the depths of the pillow, blinking streaming eyes as she tried to gain her bearings.
She found herself in a small storage room made up of plain stone and dust. A single light hung from the ceiling, lighting up the room sparingly. Covering the floor and stacking up to the ceiling were boxes of things.
Curious, Bluebell opened up the nearest box, it was full of books from the popular series “Warriors”. She opened up the next box, this one was full of sewing supplies and hand sewn stuffed animals.
One curious shelf held scrolls and on these scrolls there was a date and name. The scrolls were ordered in chronological order, the first one being “Warriors RP hope…” with a date that read 2015.

Curious…
Bluebell thought.
She tried to pull one of the scrolls off the shelf, but when she touched the scroll it shocked her! Bluebell rubbed her hand, that hurt, and she looked around to try and find the exit out of this room.
She managed to find the door, it was hiding behind a bookshelf and was just barely openable. Bluebell squeezed through the narrow gap and into the hallway. It never occurred to her to move the bookshelf, the room had the feeling of a museum, the one where you should look not touch.
Blue bell found herself in a long, narrow hallway that was made from stone. With nothing else to do, Bluebell closes her eyes and points in a random direction. She finds herself pointing to the left so she walks through the tunnel, quickly, the feeling of being watched had returned.
~~~~~~~
Back in the sunshine… figuratively speaking of course, the CBers were busy discussing the clues they’d found.
It wasn’t much. A picture of the opal brooch, Moonless Hunt’s coat of arms, and a single decoded message. It wasn’t looking good and try as they might, they couldn’t seem to figure out what the holes in the suspects' stories meant!
“Perhaps we’re doing this wrong…” Jade. “Maybe we shouldn’t be asking what happened during the holes… but rather, what were they doing?”
“That might work…” Cerinthe said. “It would be a lot easier than trying to figure out what really happened.”
“I think we should start with Mr. Miscellus.” Sirfire said. “He said he was studying a map… maybe he’ll let us take a look at it?”
It was better than nothing, so the CBers got up to look for him. He, like everyone else, was rather difficult to find…
~~~~~
What do you guys think? Any thoughts? Ideas? Guesses as to who the murderer is? Perhaps a guess of my real name?

Day Six, Part Three
~~~~~
Bluebell had been walking for ages, wiping spiderwebs off her face and rubbing her arms to keep from freezing. The tunnel seemed to be leaning in on her, cooling itself down, trying to get her out.
The tunnel did not like her. At all.
So, Bluebell was extremely glad to find it open up into a large room with a rolled up piece of paper on a pedestal. Around the edges of the circular room were large metal elephants, who stared down at her with disapproving glares. Feeling thoroughly spooked now, Bluebell creeps up to the paper and picks it up.
She waits, holding her breath, and lets it out slowly.
“Well, that was easier than I expected.” she said.
Then she heard the tell tale click of ancient gears being put into motion and she soon found the floor was turning into an angle, pointing back the way she came. From the largest elephant's mouth came a big, stone ball… a giant bowling ball!
Bluebell turned and ran, she’d seen this booby trap before on countless movies before and knew that the only thing to do was run. And run she did!
~~~~~~
Back in the main part of the mansion, Cerinthe was leading the CBers in a quest to find Mr. Misellus. It wasn’t going well, everyone was getting a little grumpy and hungry from wandering around the mansion for so long.
“Don’t you think we should stop for lunch?” Cynthia asked.
Cerinthe looked over at everyone and sighed, she wasn’t hungry, she was ready to solve this case! But, alas, not everyone was as driven as she was.
“I guess we should.” Cerinthe admitted, she was getting a little hungry herself after all. “You can go ahead, I’ll catch up in a bit.”
Cynthia looked at her sharply, but shrugged. She led the way down to the kitchen for some lunch, leaving Cerinthe alone in the hallway.
Cerinthe blinked, with everyone gone the hallway was as silent as a grave and twice as creepy. From the walls she could hear a rumbling noise… that was getting louder! Cerinthe felt electricity shoot through her as understanding filled her. The walls were hollow and something-or someone- was in the secret tunnels.
Cerinthe looked around, there had to be an entrance here, here at the end of the hallway! She soon spotted it, an out of place elephant light that she pulled down. The end of the hallway slid open, revealing a rather disheveled Bluebell.
“We thought you were dead!” Cerinthe gasped, at seeing the missing CBer.
“I’m not dead yet.” Bluebell said grimly, “Listen, I found something…”
Cerinthe listened to Bluebell’s tale with amazement, it seemed that she’d stumbled into the most secret part of the mansion… and somehow came out unscathed.
They agreed to keep what they knew a secret and Cerinthe was given charge of the mysterious piece of paper… which had a simple illustration on it.
Three columns, lined up in a row, the middle one circled. What it meant, they did not know, but one thing was certain, they’d be looking for some columns in this position.
Cerinthe turned around, about to ask Bluebell more questions, but she was gone. Again. A piece of paper was in the middle of the hallway, that read: BEWARE! BEWARE! YOU MESS WITH THINGS YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND!
~~~~~~~~
The murderer was fuming, somehow Cerinthe managed to escape her trap, and she caught Bluebell instead. And what’s worse, the map was missing and the murderer had no idea where it went…
Ok, so this isn't an accusation, just something to think about, but if none of the stories line up...
I dout that every single guest decided that it would be a good idea to steal it individually. Or that they are all just randomly lying for no reason. Could they be working together and lying to confuse the detectives? Which means at least 4 of them are working together...
By the way, Secretary, I doubt that I'm correct, I only say this because the clock seems to be getting referenced more times then is strictly nessecary, but are you S. Clockwork?
And if your not, could the emphasis on the clock mean that it has some signifigance in the story?
I am not S. Clockwork! I'm sorry to say the clocks hold no greater signifigance than the rest of the tale.
There is a hint as to when I first joined the CB. It's found in the second part of day 6.
I like your idea about them working together... don't worry the answers will all be revealed at the end of the story.
