Story and Art

Story and Art Competition.

So, I know there are a few short story competitions going on right now, but the judging day isn't for a while, which is sort of nice and sort of annoying. And they are for longer stories. WKBU had to use multiple posts for their story, for example. And I know there is also a drawing contest going on. But I thought it would be fun to have a story and art contest in one thread. You can submit a story, illustration, or both, whatever you like. Here are the rules:

1) Stay appropriate and follow all CB rules. I know this is obvious, but I thought I should still add it.

2) Your story must be between 50 and 200 words. You need talent to make a good story that is so short, and I thought it would be good to work on that.

3) There is a two week deadline for each round of the contest. I'm judging the first round on May 28th.

The first theme is hope. Have fun, and good luck!

It was in several posts because I wasn't supposed to be using the computer. But good idea. Mayhap I shall join

Ooh it would be really cool to do a writer/artist team competition again, those were fun!

I never got the chance to be in one, but they sound awesome-- it would be epic if we could do that! That way, the judging would be easier, since you wouldn't be judging art against writing. But idk, this isn't my contest.

Pretty much exactly, just you have a choice between drawing or writing or doing both, and the stories are shorter, and there's no teams. Unless you want to, I guess. New rule! An author and an artist may pair up together to create an entry.

I already wrote a story, but I'll have to post it when I get on the computer... Unfortunately, I can't draw very well. Hey, would any artists want to team up with me?

memphis says yuoda. Yoda? Have you been watching Star Wars?

@Majestic Mary I'd team up with you, if you want me to! Do you want me to do an illustration for your story?

Yay, thanks AW! Here's my story for the first round.

I knelt by the empty bed, silently crying into my hands. The months of hugs, hand-holding, and tears, all for what? I had awakened in a hard armchair in an empty hospital room, and the hospital bed my sister had been lying in the night before was now empty. I couldn’t bear to think what that meant.

I tried holding out hope. After all, the nurses HAD said the treatment was going well, right? But if so, why take her away in the middle of the night? The nearby clock tick-tick-ticked, and with each passing second, a little sliver of my heart broke. She was gone. Gone, and I hadn’t gotten to say goodbye. So I wept.

“Why are you crying?” A gentle, recognizable voice asked.

“Margaret?!” I cried, immediately standing up and crossing the room.

There she was. My sister, sitting and smiling in a wheelchair, her bald head wrapped in a purple beanie. I ran over and crushed her in a hug.

“I thought you were - were - I mean, I had given up hope!”

She hugged me back, laughing. “Never give up hope, Liv. Even in the darkest times, there is always a glimmer of hope.”

It's kind of depressing. At the beginning, at least. Welll yeah. I don't really know how to end this comment so bye!

Sounds like fun! If anyone wants to partner up, let me know.

Do there have to be partners? If so, I need an artist.

No, partners are optional. You can make a story and a drawing, or one or the other, or join up with someone else, but it's all your choice.

I'm submitting my candidacy as a writer and an artist! If anyone would like to team up I'm totally down.

I love your story! It really clearly communicates the theme, and it's well-written too. Here's the sketch of my illustration-- let me know if you like it, and if there's anything I should change before I ink it. (Also, you can tell me if there's a specific medium you think it would look good in-- ink and color, pencil and color, finished ink, ink sketch, or digital).

Oh my gosh it looks perfect! Wow. It's great. I think it might look good in colored pencil, but you can decide. Thanks so much!
