Theater debate: what counts as acting?

This is a thread that I decided to make about what you think counts as acting. You can post what you think the definition of acting, is talk about your definitions, or start a debate about whether something can be considered acting. For example: say that you think that roleplaying counts as acting. You could comment "Debate: roleplaying counts as acting" and say a few reasons why. then someone else could respond and agree or disagree with you. The conversation could go back and forth, and you could change your minds or come up with new definitions for acting. Say you end up agreeing that roleplaying is acting. You could start another dabate, i.e does tabletop roleplaying, like DnD, count as acting. Please be respectful of others opinions and have fun!

Does lying count as acting? I mean, a good actor could make a good liar, and if you are lying you are ACTING like you are telling the truth. But I don't want to disgrace the profession of acting by associating it with lying. So I'm not sure.

Maybe, because you're pretending something and it requires some of the same skills. I don't think that association an art with something bad is "disgracing" it. It really depends on your definition of acting.
