Art tutorials?

So, there have been a couple of these in the past, but since we have some people here now who are just starting to explore drawing, I’m rebooting this thread! Here is where you can put art tutorials you’ve made. You guys can copy off of them, and I guess you can even trace if you're on a big enough screen (or if you have a printer). Also, feel free to ask me, or really anyone, for any specific tutorials, and I’ll try to make them for you. Hopefully this will help any beginner artists we have on here! I’ll post a tutorial I made once this is up.

@Barnswallow, this isn't exactly a tutorial, I'm honestly terrible at teaching people how I draw, but this is basically a template of how i draw a person. Of course different ages, genders, and body types change the proportions. Also it's good to use references, and just practice a lot.

A little tutorial on how I draw bodies!

Step 1: START WITH SIMPLE SHAPES. I CANNOT STRESS HOW IMPORTANT THIS IS. The only reason I can draw bodies as well as I can is because I start with simple shapes. If you're not sure what I mean, try looking at a photo of a person and think about what shapes the parts of the body look like. For example, the chest area, simplified, is kind of an upside-down rounded triangle shape, and the head is composed of a circle and kind of a squared-off diamond shape. Starting with simple shapes has various benefits. One of them is being able to experiment with poses and proportions without commiting to too much detail, and another is being able to focus on proportions without getting confused or distracted by all the details. Also, do yourself a favor and sketch out your character's body before you draw clothes on it! If you try to draw the clothes first, the proportions will almost always come out wrong.

Body tutorial part 2: beginning to add details. In my case, this stage is when I add facial features and begin to sketch out clothes. Remember, DRAW THE BODY BEFORE YOU DRAW THE CLOTHES! Especially if your character is wearing form-concealing clothing like a robe or dress, but even if they're wearing a t-shirt and jeans like this guy. It will really help with anatomy, I promise. (Oh, and I forgot to add, try sketching circles for your character's joints during the sketching-out-basic-shapes stage of the process. Otherwise, the arms and legs will have a tendency to look like noodles, in my experience.)

And step 3, the final step! This is when you add more details, including hair, clothing details/wrinkles, and any other embellishments that your character might have. This is probably the step that takes the longest, depending on how much detail you're going for. With this character, it's really just drawing the hair and finishing up the clothes, but for some characters you might need to add horns, tattoos, weapons, jewelry, etc. It really depends on the character, of course, but if you're designing your own character I'd advise not putting too much detail in. If it's just a one-time illustration, you can add as much detail as you want, but if it's an OC you're planning to draw multiple times or a character you're using for a comic, you will soon regret putting in too much detail! I know because I've done it XD Anyway, I hope this tutorial helped, and let me know if you want any other specific tutorials!
