Thread for Growing Artists!

This is a thread for visual artists to post their work, learn from others, and give feedback on others art!  You can also ask for inspiration. Any kind of visual art can be posted, not just drawings. Please specify whether you are okay with constructive critism or not, and please be kind with yor feedback. Don't be afraid to post your art because it's "not good enough" or "too weird." This is for artists of any level, and chances are, people will love your art and maybe help you improve it. I shouldn't even have to say this, but your art has to be appropriate.

Oh, oof, this really looks terrible. I'm so sorry, I tried taking a picture with my computer, and it's awful. *looks at drawing in real life* yah, I'm going to post another with the Ipad.

Hmm, I think you did a really great job with the ears and mouth - they look super realistic! other than that, all I have to say is that the eyes should either be a little larger, or closer together (the space between the eyes should be the length of one eye), and maybe more hair? Drawing realistically is really hard, so I feel your pain XD

I actually find that drawing realism much easier than drawing cartoonily. Your right, the eyes are totally off proportion. I think it looks okay-ish irl, but the computer picture looks awful.

Haha for this one I know something is really wrong with the body, but I don't exactly know what, so if anyone could help that'd be great Smile (My brother said his body was backwards lol)

(I said this earlier but it didn’t show up, I’m pretty sure I forgot to hit “submit” XD) That looks really great, Aqua! I think the head’s maybe a little too square, and the torso is too short (unless he’s wearing high-wasted jeans). Also, you might consider adding a bit more shape to the legs, they look kind of rectangular right now. But that’s all I can think of, it looks really great!

@AW Thanks for the critique! :) Nah the head is fine, people's heads usually aren't any longer than that I don't think. (Ok sometimes a little but not by too much)

His pants aren't tight, so that's why the legs seem a little rectangular. Some more shape around the knees could have been used, though.

But yeah, his torso is definitely too short haha. I would've changed the drawing but the first sketch is bluegrey colored pencil and crayola pencils don't much like erasing :')

(It's so cool that I can geek out about art with someone else XD) Actually for the head I wasn't saying it was too short, more like too square in shape? Like, I feel like you could add more roundness to the back of the head maybe. Idk. And yeah, I was thinking about adding more shape to the knee area of the legs. Also, maybe you could add a slight bend to the arms? I don't know, I'm kind of just nitpicking now. I'm glad I could point out the torso thing tho.

(Hopefully that appears correctly when posted lol. The ~'s are there to kinda reinforce it I guess)

It is great to talk to someone about art :)) But he's wearing a hat, so the back of the head wouldn't be visible from this angle. (Maybe just the slightest, slightest bit under the ear. Maybe. I don't know which one looks better.)

I thought of a tip, so I decided I should post it on this thread.

After you ink your drawing, on a separate piece of paper, make a little circle or ball with the same pen. Go over it a few times just in case. When you think the picture is dry, first erase over the little ink spot you made. If it smudges, wait longer. This way you will never smudge your drawing!

--Begin: A Sketch Rant, by aqua the person (but does that make her a human? maybe not...) edited from the original, asterick applies where changed or fixed--

Sometime a circle and a few lines is good enough for the first sketch, even maybe less!

Drawing by sketching is all about making an idea, and refining, and refining, and finally refining. Until it's finished. Master pieces of art often started from a few squiggles.

If you aren't sketching, instead, ex. making the head, finalizing that, then moving on to the next part, what if you find later that the head is in the wrong angle? You can't just erase the head you worked so hard on :'(

The first few sketches can plant out an idea! Maybe you have an elaborate image in your mind* (not me lol). With sketching you can first draw the pose with a few lines, look at it, maybe adjust somethings, and you've got the right pose. You can shape out the body a bit, still drawing lightly, look at it, and find you used* the right shapes, so on and so on.

I realize I'm not very good at explaining** things, but anyway, the idea is, instead of going part by part, go*** stage by stage.

(Sometimes if I don't want to ink, but want to make the sketch a lil' more finalized, I erase the sketch, just enough so I can still see it, then draw more confident and darker lines over it.

I uh... I'll put this on the Growing Artist Thread. ****( I put it on a different one it didn't fit as well)
