Inktober!

This may be a tad too early for an Inktober thread, but it's probably fine! :)

In case you didn't know, Inktober is a bunch of prompt-based ink challenges for the month of October!

There is a prompt for each day, an example from this years, "Blade"! Every day, or every other day, (or whenever you want w), you can draw an inked drawing that follows the prompt!

Traditional black and white is the most classic Inktober style, but you can color or draw digitally if you so desire!

If you still don't understand, I'm sorry, I'm not that good at explaining xD, but I'm sure other CBers can help you!

I can post the prompts for 2020 once this thread is posted! (Too many exclamation marks xD)

Sherry(my CAPTCHA): Yvaum!

You hear that? YVAUM! How inspiring! Hecc yeah, you go, Sherry!!

( Note: There is a recent controversy over the creator of Inktober, but I think Inktober is more about the art community and is separate from him, so in my opinion at least, I think we should still be able to participate. :) )

Day 1: Fish

You swish your legs in the sea, whistling and pip-papping the rocks. The sun shimmers upon the crystal blue sea, and a light breeze tussles through your hair. Suddenly, the brilliant waves splash onto your face. Out shoots a copper, stout woman with freckles splattered across her body and thick braids of mahogany running down her back. She wears a top made of clam shells.

“You keep your scampi-stinking feet-” She bellows with a thick African accent, but then notices you. “Oh, hello.” You apologize, but she waves it off with a warm smile. “No, no, it’s fine.” She gets a bit louder here. “It’s our own fault for not setting up a specific place!”

Up shoots her husband, a muscular man with similar skin and hair color. His hair was in dreadlocks and his skin was shining, despite his deep sighing and hands holding his head.

“I told you,” He says, “The shaking of the feet is not even an issue-”

“And I told you that not only is it distracting, they might catch the attention of an unwanted predator-”

“And told you that no one in this entire sea would want to lay a finger on-”

“Hey!” an american voice yelps out.

The familiar whip-whip-whip-whip travels through the water like a tunnel. The final member of this family, as well as your best friend, pops out the top of her head. She is tiny, about eight, and has the flowing hair and skin of her mother. Her crystal blue eyes glimmered in the morning sun upon recognizing you. The girl shouts your name gleefully and pops down, only to rocket back up and slam onto you.

“Bala!” Her parents scold. She giggles and sits next to you on the rock. Bala’s tail is covered in shimmering sky blue scales, growing in darker shades as they travel down her body. Her smile is more radiant than the sun as she slips into the water, per her parent’s request. Her mother ruffles Bala’s hair.

“You come here for my daughter?" Her father asks as the two play. You shake your head, and he laughs. "Ah, well, she's very excited to see you."The man leans towards you, narrowing his eyebrows and lowering his voice. "You don't want to disappoint her, do you?"

You shake your head, unfazed. He laughs again and leans back. "A strong one. She'll make a good bride for you."

"Dad!" Bala whines.

"Run along now, children, so that I can teach your father a lesson."The two of you giggle and run off. Sure, you never meant to hang out with Bala, bit didn't you catch her mother's wording? A child always finds the way back to his or her family.

Day Two: Wisp

She sits upon the bench, drenched in the black cloak customary of her sisterhood. When she walked, it would sway to and fro, whipping with the familiar sound the children learned to love. Love, love, love. Her sisters said that she radiated it. It fueled her every movement, flowed through her veins, and could be seen in every crease and line she held. When her hands touched a shoulder, love would swirl outwards and coat a body in kindness, warmth, and compassion. Her smile shone throughout the establishment, gleaming with understanding and motherly warmth. She could take the worst parts of a friend and turn it into their strength, flip the hardest days into the shiniest silvers.

Everyone trusted her, and she was familiar with its weight. Yes, the woman knew all about trust. The whisper into a friendly ear, the clicks of gold coins in another’s hand, the burden off of a shoulder. She also knew betrayal; the streams of tears, the shouts of hatred, the swirling sickness in your stomach that you were sure would never go away. To say it is painful is an understatement. To say the release of someone who betrayed you is excruciating is the same predicament.

But she also knew that humanity depends on trust. We hunger for it, which is why it hurts so much when we are deprived of it. We may try to put on a front, but our insides are aching for any crumb of hope. And she knows from experience that all it takes is that one crumb to turn sour face into a smiling son of God. That is why the children, the adults, all who meet her love her.

“And that is why today is such a tragic day.”

She sits upon the bench, smiling at Sister Emily. She always had a way with words. The loved sister smiled also at all her requests being fulfilled. Emily speaking at her funeral, her ashes being cremated, her sisters all wearing their robes and her being buried in them. The younger nuns cried, unable to deal with the sorrow. The older ones, however, lightly smile. She watches the entire proccession, and stays while the other nuns drip away one by one. The final nun is Sister Elebtha, who is now the eldest, and will always be her best friend. She steps towards the grave, smile, and places a hand upon the grave.

Donec Iterum Convieniant.” Sister Elebetha whispers.

Sister Beatrice smiles. “Until we meet again.”

Hey! I'm super sorry for stealing your thread, Aqua, my phone didn't load all the threads when I posted it.

Anyway, day two: Wisp

My phone won't load my pictures, so hopefully I upload the correct one. XD

(Sorry in advance to Anonymous Goat and Freak, if I uploaded yours, I swear it was an accident.)

So, thoughts?

Here's my day 1! (I'm ignoring the fact that it's already day 2 shhhh) The thought process behind this was basically I wanted to do something different for the fish prompt, and so I decided to draw a mermaid (er, merman). Then I decided to make it an anglerfish mermaid, because anglerfish are really cool, and I was about halfway through my sketch and trying to decide what kind of hair an anglerfish would have when I realized that it sort of looked like Aang from ATLA, since it was still bald. So then I up just ran with it, and... here we go. You might even say that I drew an... Aanglerfish? ;) For the record, I'm not going to put this much explanation on every Inktober drawing I post; I just figured Aang drawn as an anglerfish merman deserved some explanation, lol. Have a good night!

I love looking at everyone's takes on the prompts! @Ella Starburst, it's so cool that you're writing short stories for Inktober!

I wasn't a big fan of some of the prompts this year, so I'm doing an alternative list called Plastober. Here's day 1: heart.

I'm late, but here's day one! Koi fish are so pretty. I wasn't sure if I was going to do Inktober this year, but I think the Admins said it pretty well.

Oops, forgot to post mine before now! Anyways, here is my day one: wisp. I'm not using the list because I didn't like this year's prompts very much so I will be doing some of those, some from previous years, and some that I make up. I think that today I will draw something related to Mean Girls. It's not a very good prompt but it's mean girls day so I feel obligated (whoah , triple holiday! Shabbat, Sukkot, and Mean Girls day, all rolled into one!). I loved looking at all your draw8ngs so much, there is so much talent on this site!

Anyways, here it is. It was inspired by something from Legends of Korra, can't tell you what unless you have watched season three. I like how the ink wash turned out. One of the hands is covered because I was really bad and I wanted to redo it. I might be able to start doing color because my sister got something with colored ink (she hasn't used it in years) a while ago and I might be able to convince her to let me use it.

Ok, so I've never done this before... (and I think I accidentally did day 2 twice... whoops.)

So here's what I did for day one: (I didn't do fish, I decided to do a witchtober prompt which was like moon/night, so here you go:)

I might write some short stories to go along with the pictures I drew.... maybe later. We'll see.
