Musician Thread!

I know there are a lot of musicians on the CB, so this is a thread to talk about instruments that you play, what music you enjoy playing, if you play with other people, that really annoying kid in orchestra/band who thinks they know everything, ect. If you're not a musician, maybe you can talk about what kind of music you like to listen to or an instrument you would like to play.

I play violin. I've played for a little over ten years and I love it. I mostly play classical music, but I also like fiddle music. I play in two orchestras at my school and I love playing with my friends. I also go to an awesome music camp in the summer and I've met a lot of great people through that. I also play african marimba and that's a lot of fun. I've always wanted to play cello or maybe the flute.

Hmm! This is a cool thread! I don't play an instrument, but I really want to learn how to play the guitar but I have a feeling that my family wouldn't want me too. Does anyone have any ideas to help me ask my parents to play guitar? Because I figured I could look up lessons online, because of covid-19.

Well, I have no idea why your parents wouldn't want you to play guitar, it's fun once you get the hang of it and I'm pretty sure playing an instrument is good for your brain or something. If you can tell my why you think that it'll help. And there are plenty of free lessons online, I believe.

As for me, I can play ukelele, not-very-good guitar, and I used to play piano but I haven't done it in a long time.

This is my fourth year of playing flute. I really like it, but the band I'm in is fairly small and missing some instruments. Ourside of band, I am leaning to play  'Ruins' from the Undertale soundtrack. It's a trio, but I don't have flute player friends so I'm  just  going to play it with myself on video.

I play the flute, too. This is my third year, I've been playing since sixth grade. I just finished doing a recording of Morpheus, by Robert W. Smith. It was pretty simple, just a warm-up after most people not practicing for half a year. I liked it though. I'm also learning the first two songs, Gavotte and Bergamask, from a Rubank Concert and Contest Collection with my private teacher, and teaching myself I Dreamed a Dream from Les Mis and Burn from Hamilton, which are both fairly simple, but hard enough to be a challenge. Plus, they're two of my favorite songs.

Finally! A instrument thread!

I play the piano, violin, cello, drums, and guitar (Mostly electric guitar, I like the sound better.)!

I learned everything you need to know on the piano, so I can play pretty much anything.

Same goes for cello, drums and electric guitar.

On the violin I'm teaching myself "Underground" by Lindsey Stirling.

I've played piano for eleven years, drums for nine, guitar for eight, cello for five, and violin for four!

(Also, K.A.D.E. would never admit it, but he has the voice of an angel. Freak's also really good with EDM stuff... But you didn't hear that from me!)

I've been playing trumpet since 4th grade, so about 4 years. I've improved a lot recently and I'm really excited for high school band next year. I currently have braces, which are super annoying while playing, because the metal just digs into my gums. Ugh. But I'll probably be gettting them off next summer, just in time for high school! Yay.

I also played the viola when I was in second, third, and fourth grade. I wasn't great at it and I didn't have that much fun doing it either, but it was a good experience. Apparantley I'm more of a brass instrument person than a string. Who knew?

Also I played recorder in fourth grade, which I was obviously a master at. I can't really play any other instruments. The end!!

My school had all the 4th graders learn recorder, too. It was...squeaky. I guess a lot of elementary schools do that.

I played viola for two years back in elementary school (it's basically a violin but a different size and a generally lower sound). I enjoyed it, but then I switched over to playing the flute, which despite looking like a very unitimidating object wis a lot harder to play than it looks. I did that for a year or two, and became decent at it (I still wasn't that good, though). Eventually, I quit playing instruments altogether when the pandemic hit, because I was playing flute for school, and virtual band class was not fun. I don't particularly miss it, but I can still read music, which is cool.

I have been playing the violin for a little over ten years now.  It's one of the most important thing in my life and I couldn't live without it.  Most of the time I love all aspects of it, practicing, care, performance.  Though on some days all, or some don't appeal to me.

I play mostly classical, sometimes I will play fiddle or blue grass.  I enjoy them all a lot.

I really enjoy playing and listening to Bach's pieces for solo violin.  They are so wonderful and Hilary Hahn does an amazing job playing them.  I like how personal and reflectice they are.  Each violinist has a very unique way of playing them, and the way each person plays them changes over time as they gather more experiences.

I play in an orchestra.  It's gone all online and is a little disappointing.  Virtually it is really good.  But I know what it's like to play in person and online just doesn't come anywhere near the excitement and community of in person orchestra.

I'm really looking forward to when in person rehearsals and concerts can safely happen.

Oh my gosh, Hilary Hahn is amazing! I love listening to her play. One of my favorite pieces to listen to is The Lark Ascending. It's a really beautiful piece.

My orchestra is virtual, too. Basically we all mute our microphones and then the conductor plays the click track and conducts while we quietly follow. It's kinda sad xD And we're making a concert video where we have to listen to the click track on headphones and record ourselves playing along...I am concerned as to how that's going to turn out once they put all the videos together. Anyway.

I LOVE to sing but I'm at that awkward age where I'm stuck in the middle range and I can't go super high or super low. I try not to care, though, and I sing a lot. My family is really musical, up to the point where my mom plays piano (really well) for fun, my dad plays pan flutes occasionally, one of my brothers plays piano pretty well and my uncle is legitimately a music teacher in the "Up North" part of my state.

Heyo! I play violin as well. I've been playing with the Suzuki method for 8 years, but recently I got a new teacher who ISN'T Suzuki and it was kind of a shock to the system! So now I'm improvising and transposing and it's very strange. Right now I'm playing Vivaldi's G minor concerto, 3rd movement; the Legends of Zelda soundtrack for my orchestra (which is on Zoom...it's also very odd); and a song from Totoro. :) I also play a little ukulele, though I'm very bad at it. And I played flute in band a few years ago, but I haven't actually played in over a year so I don't think I'd remember how if I tried.

MountainSpirit, that's really cool that you play the marimba! I've taken a short class on it before and it sounds really pretty.
