Standing on the edge of a wind- and water-scraped cliff, a girl peers down through the mist and toward the violent waves. Cloak oscillating in the strong air current, she searches for something far beneath her feet. Her gaze pierces the thick fog. In the distance, a tiny speck of something bounces along the water's surface until it rests precariously on the damp sand.

The girl nods in satisfaction and clambers down the cliff face, making excellent use of pre-carved indents in the rock. Once her feet are securely planted on the beach, she bends down to lift the bottle to eye level. Within the dark brown glass, a white scrap of paper can be seen, tied loosely with a ribbon.

Undoing the knot, the girl reads the message.

"When the light shines too brightly, seek the safety of the night sky."

Thank you so much, Fenrir!  I really like your use of adjectives, it gives so much more to the story.  I can see the bottle on the sand, and I can feel the apprehensiveness of not knowing whether it will stay or be washed away.  The last quote boths ends the story and leaves it hanging mysteriously.  I love this!

Silvery blue, her cloak envelopes her. The girl perches, high up in one of the trees, in the elven library. Reading intently, she notices but doesn't acknowledge the wolf who pads up to stand underneath the tree. The elves scattered around the library whisper among themselves, bewildered at the Moon Wolf that chose a human.

The wolf gently paws at the base of the oak. Exasperated but amused, the girl leaps gracefully down from the tree. Stroking the wolf's coarse yet soft fur, she leans into his side. The wolf noses her wild purple and blue and silver hair, urging her to get on.

Pleasantly surprised, the girl mounts his back. When she is securely on his back, the wolf bounds away from the tree, through the door, and out into the main forest. They both leave the confused elves with more questions than answers.

As he runs, the wolf says to the girl,

"When you are that good at hide and seek, I can only find you by sheer luck."

-And you're welcome! :)

(March 17, 2022 - 2:51 pm)

Deep in the stars, a girl with bright amber eyes strides among the galaxies, lost in thought. She marvels at the beauty with which the universe came about. The bright pinpricks of light in the darkness. The myriad of colors planets and comets alike display. The way ancient stars fall apart to make way for younger, brighter stars.

The girl's stardust sleigh carries her to ever more wonders, with her golden hair trailing behind in the emptiness of pure space, and her cloak made of ice held close. She yearned for nothing, as all the wisdom of stars was hers, and everything the planets has to offer was hers.

I hope I used the correct pronouns since you only gave two? (I used: xe/xem/xyr/xemself) I'll re-do it if not.

Someone sits at an ancient grand piano, gently pressing the keys. The tune is a bit discordant, but soft and pleasant. Xe pauses to scribble in a nearby notebook, muttering about connections and notes. Xe brushes xyr pink and blue hair away from xyr face. Going back to plonking keys, xe frowns in concentration. Threads of color wind around the air surrounding xem.

After hours pass, xe stands up and stretches, walking toward the mahogany bookcase. Pulling specific books halfway out one at a time, xe opens xyr secret passage. Disappearing into the gloom, xe doesn't return for a while, but finally comes back with a single sheet of parchment. Xyr mismatched eyes read it attentively. The ink twists and turns, eventually resolving itself into words.

"The promise of music is a warped fractal of articulation."
