Yep, this is a poetry contest, but it's a little different. (please tell me if this has been done!) It has to be a haiku. A haiku is a poem, but it goes - 5 sylables, 7 sylables, 5 sylables. I'll start by giving a topic, and the winner will get to chose a new topic, and if they want, a new poem format. (Haiku or free form. At least, that's what I learnt as some names.) Pretty straightforward. ( I think?) 

The first topic is very obvious. Halloween! Yeah, its weeks away, but why not? Today's october 5th, so I'll make the due date october 16.

Hi curious! This is a cool idea. I don't think it's been done before, but I could be wrong. I'm on the bus right now typing this on my phone because I'm bored so please understand if it's terrible. Here goes nothing:

halloween night 

darkness shrouds the street,

evil spirits on the prowl,

screams rip through my bones.

HALLOWEEN PARTY

Let's throw a party,

A costume party!

We'll dance till dark,

Then trick or treat,

Then all our candy,

We will eat.

With a stomachache,

And a 'BURP',

We'll  clean up the mess,

And sing a creepy song,

Then year long,

We'll wait again,

For Halloween,

To come again!
