You're ordering your favorite drink and a pastry at your local cafe. Five minutes later, you get your order. You notice that a letter is attached to the drink, and you read it. It says:

Welcome to the Cafe House!

It is a week of relaxing, books, and cozy drinks.

<And not just that, there are also art rooms and craft rooms and writing rooms and->

Yes, Celadon, we get the idea.

{And hikes. The House is in a temperate forest with a lake, where the temperature averages seventy-three degrees Fahrenheit.}

Thank you, Zaffre.

Oh! My!

What a wonderful first part! That was magnificent and excellent and lovely and *looks up more synonyms of magnificent* splendid and spectacular and impressive and striking and glorious and wonderful and superb and majestic and awe-inspiring and breathtaking and sumptuous and resplendent and grand and tremendous and marvelous and stellar and brilliant and out-of-this-world and splendiferous and Merriam-Webster doesn't have enough words to describe it!

This is great! The writing is so good and we've already established a mystery in the first part... I hope my room being right next to Room IV won't be a bad thing down the line...

Can't wait to see where this goes next!! :)

Suki woke up to someone singing “My Shot”, from Hamilton. The singer had quite a good voice, and, looking at the clock, Suki found that it was 7:30 am. She got dressed and walked downstairs. Expecting to find Reuby, or maybe Scuttles singing, no one was singing and Mahogany was chopping a bell pepper.
“Did you hear anyone singing, a few minutes ago?” Suki asked.
“No, did you?”, replied Mahogany, hesitantly.
“Yeah, I thought I heard it when I woke up.”
“Hm. Probably just a dream.”
“What’re you doing?”
“Making breakfast. Just omelets, and some banana bread.”
“Oh okay. Do you want me to make the banana bread?”
“Sure.”
<>
“Who was singing My Shot this morning?” asked Avara, looking up from her banana bread.
No one answered. Mahogany bit her lip.
“Ooookay.” said Avara, taking a bite of her banana bread. After she finished, she stood up and stood behind her chair. Soon after, a few other guests finished and stood up as well. Avara, Scuttles, and Luna all helped bus the dishes in a hurry to start the day’s activities.
“We could go on a hike, if you all want,” suggested Mahogany.
“Nooo, it’s too cold,” replied a few CBers.
“How about the library instead?” spoke up Zaffre.
Most of the guests agreed with this, and everyone walked to the library.
As they were walking, Mahogany spotted some lavender-colored liquid near rooms IV and III. No one else noticed it except Zaffre, who quickly cleaned it up.
In the library, Hawkstar beelined to the fantasy section. She soon found the KotLC books, and in that, the book she was currently reading. To her surprise, the page she’d been on was bookmarked. She sat down on a beanbag chair. Huh, she thought, I didn’t see that before.
It wasn’t long before Hawkstar heard rustling. She looked up, and saw Scuttles fingering the titles. “Ah, do you like KotLC?” asked Scuttles.
“Yeah,” Hawkstar replied, “It’s a really good series.”
“I agree, but I think I’ll read Harry Potter instead.”
“Okay, but KotLC is way better.”
“How so?”
Hawkstar and Scuttles continued to discuss fantasy, and everyone else soon found a book to their liking.

This is great! Gotta love the mysterious Hamilton lyrics in the early morning... And the strange lavender liquid... it wouldn't happen to be poison?

Part 3, Day 2

“Lavender liquid?” Mahogany asked, nervously.

“Yep. I cleaned it up, and I don’t think anyone saw, so that’s good,” Zaffre replied.

Mahogany put her face in her hands. “And we have guests, too. Why did I invite guests, of all things, when room IV was unstable?”

“Sshh, the guests will hear.”

“The library is two rooms away.”

“Eavesdroppers, remember? I know these CBers seem nice, but we never know with our-” Zaffre hesitated, “-condition.”

“I’ll tell Celadon,” Mahogany said, and left.

One of the guests ran down the hallway back to the library in cold sweat.

After a lunch of grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup, Mahogany said that the next few hours would be for exploring. Room IV was off-limits. At 3 pm, everyone would come back to the dining hall to prepare for a hike, now that it was warmer.

Some of the guests went to their rooms, but most branched out in search of the writing rooms and craft rooms advertised in the letter they’d gotten before the stay.

In the craft rooms, Celadon was already setting up ribbons, paints, and markers, anticipating the CBers who would come. As expected, Justin, Hawkstar, Avara, Luna, Caty, and Silver Crystal all came trailing in at some point.

Noticing a sewing machine, Silver Crystal ran her hand along it. She also noticed a cabinet full of fabric scraps and spools of thread, as well as a sewing kit. She immediately got to work making a little pouch. Avara, Luna, and Caty stayed and poked around for about ten minutes before leaving to explore more. Hawkstar and Justin started doodling on some scratch paper.

In the writing rooms, Zaffre, Sterling, Carnelian, Reuby, and Lore were discussing the stories that they were writing, and they were building on them with the typewriters at each desk.

Suki and Scuttles decided that they wanted to explore the basement some more, and they ended up playing Clue.

<>

Mahogany pulled on the bell-rope three times, producing a sound that rang through the building. Most of the guests immediately ran to the dining hall, smelling baked goods. Reuby dragged Lore through the halls. Lore tripped and stumbled on a crack in the floor.

“You coming? I’m hungry.” Reuby said.

“Yeah. I’ll catch up.” Lore replied.

Lore knelt down to catch his breath. It was funny that he was so tired, since he usually went on runs. But now, after running only ten or so feet, he felt like he’d run miles. He tried to stand, but he was too dizzy. He collapsed.

Just then, another guest walked over. They peered over to Lore and sighed. He tried to see who it was, but his vision was so blurry that he couldn’t tell. The guest injected a shot into Lore’s arm and walked away, to join the other guests as though nothing had happened.

<>

When the guests had arrived in the dining hall, Mahogany felt a strange urge to do a head count. She counted only 12 guests. Figuring someone hadn’t heard the bell, she asked, “Who’s missing?”

Everyone else looked around, and Reuby spoke up, “Lore’s not here. He said he’d catch up…”

Zaffre asked, “Where did you leave him?”

“Right outside the basement door.”

Zaffre and Reuby left for that spot, along the route Reuby had taken to the dining hall.

When they came back, Reuby was barely holding back tears and Zaffre was as pale as snow.

Somehow, the guests knew that Lore was dead.
