Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Greek cafe

Greek cafe

You are wandering the streets of Greece when you see a cafe. Like all the other cafes. But somehow different.

You enter, and the smiling young woman gives you the menu. "Welcome to the Greek Jewel Cafe," she says. "My name is Hera, after the goddess."

/Jade water/

/Sapphire chocolate cake/

/Meditteranean pastries/

/Sumac scones/

/Croissants tourmaline/

You frown at the many mentions of jewels as you make your order. You realize that your adventure here will not be finished as soon as you finish eating.

1. I've changed my name. I'm GLT, but I changed names.

2. How do you know that I like Go?
3. The Go board actually starts empty, so I take "all set up for a game" as all the stones are out and so is the empty board.

Still taking in Agalia's shocking announcement, I listen to the other CBers clamor to join forces with the owner of the cafe, not entirely surprised at the general group's desire for involvement. After all, when has a CBer turned down an adventure? I eat the last of my cake, thinking. I'm all for taking down oppressive governments, but after all, we just met these people and I was only planning to stay in Greece for a few weeks. What could even be accomplished in that time? I decide to sit back and stay quiet, characteristically waiting to make a decision.

I scarf down my food while I gauge the other CBers reactions. Several other CBers voice their support, but some, like Lupine, remain silent, waiting for more information. Some of us probably planned to leave in as soon as a few days' time, but I can be here as long as I need to. The Scuttling Place chose to relocate to Greece on a whim, but it probably won't shift locations again anytime soon unless I ask it to.

Having finished my food, I lean back in my seat and put my boots up on an empty chair.

"Alright," I say, raising my voice to be heard over the clamor, "as much as I'd like to hurry up and get to the part where we cause chaos, I want more information first. Hera--or Agalia, or whatever it may be--start talking."

Agalia casts a cool glance at Scuttles. "Try running a cafe yourself," she invites him, "and see how soon you'll be able to go into lengthy explanations because someone orders you to." She turns to the other CBers with a smile. "Thank you so much for offering to help. I wasn't really necessarily asking you for it - this is just a cafe that you all stopped into, and most of you were probably planning to just be in Greece for a little while?" A few people nod, and she continues. "Besides, I understand if you don't trust us. Don't trust strangers is probably something you've all learned..." Her laugh ripples through the room. "But if you do want to help..."

"If you do want to help," Kostas says, standing up, "then by all means do so! Except as little chaos as possible, please," he adds warningly. "Overthrowing a dictatorship isn't really something that you want to introduce chaos to. You could, while you're here, take my place at reporting progress to Agalia - there are certain people who'll tell you, and you come here and tell her."

"And if you aren't convinced you want to help," Agalia adds with her sweet smile, "I could take you across to Cyper tomorrow, so that you can visit it - and see for yourself."

"Ah, I'm convinced already!" I exclaim. "Although I haven't seen what actually is happening. Although I don't want to pester you, can we have a bit more explanation about what the plan will be and how we can help? I'm fine with not causing chaos. I'd just like to get it finished ASAP. "
