Hey fellow Cricket

Hey fellow Cricket readers! as you might have already figured out, i'm julie (i'm not capitalizing because i'm lazy :P).

i just want to talk about something I am very into: ANIME/ MANGA! (i'm not really sure this is where the comment goes. it's an art. i guess?) you could say it's my greatest passion. I don't usually watch, i read, because anime usually gets warped, which bugs me a lot.

anyway, i like to read naruto, bleach, D. Gray Man, one piece, full metal alchemist, Katekyoshi hitman reborn, eyeshield 21, death note (even though it ended *cries*), and tons more. i'm very... hardcore xD;; there's the chance you haven't heard of anything i've named, but that's OK. (most people only know naruto. They're missing out!)

you could say i'm a fangirl. alright, i AM a fangirl. but call me whatever you want, because i'm proud :D

i don't care how old you are- respond if you share my love of Japanese comics and animation! <3

P.S. manga is the comics. anime is the animation, like TV shows! most animes are originally mangas though.

P.P.S. I also like japanese animated films! one you probably know is Spirited Away, made by the great genius Hayao Miyazaki!

P.P.P.S. I also LOVE drawing manga and anime! I'm very passionate :)

Actually, Spirited Away is on the table next to me! It is one of my favorite movies, but sorry, I'm not as into anime.  Well not that I dislike it, I'm just clueless about it and what I've seen seems a bit boring. And I would definitely recommend the other Miyazaki films.  Totoro is great:)

Yay there are other manga lovers out there!!! ^_^ I love all of Miyazaki's films, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle are my favorite! I don't read any of the manga you listed-mostly cuz I'm into shojo manga. Shojo manga is my weakness, I even subscribe to Shojo Beat magazine! (Shojo manga is like a readable soap opera!) My favorites are Vampire Knight, Honey and Clover, Beauty Pop, Full Moon, High School Debut, La Corda D'oro, Love Com, Meru Puri, and Sand Chronicles. I obviously can't afford to by all these (does anyone else find manga prices and the lack of selection at libraries frustrating?) so I subscribe to a magazine which means I get just a bit of many different mangas each month. I also love to draw manga! Mostly I draw chibi-style, but I found this book on drawing really graceful fairies and I mostly do that now. Does any-one else read shojo? I'd love to hear back.

Hey Wendy!!! I forgot to add, that if you want to read manga but don't have enough money, try the web Onemanga! I'm not trying to advertise, just to help!!! I like shojo a lot too. My favorite is Fruits Basket, as you can tell on my post! Ya it's so annoying that manga is so expensive!!! Chibi is so cute!!! I like to draw it too, I'm just not that good at Chibis. They don't come out squat enough usually.

Why doesn't cricket ever publish any manga art? I think it should do a manga cover sometime (soon)!!!

Yeah, there should be at least a small portion of manga in Cricket.  Maybe we should start a petition...Anyway I wish there was a way we could all just post our art online, you know like uploading them, but they'd have to be screened (hint to the editors).  I really like Vampire Night and Meru Puri (which are by the same author).  I also love Sand Chronicles.  To help with chibi, people draw on graph paper (this helps with all drawing actually).  Also get a book that breaks down body size.  But for chibis just make the head nice and big--the body should only be about as long as the head is and half as wide.  I just realized that you are writing from Spain!  That is soooooo cooooool!  I've never been out of the country. What is Spain like?

Yeah, a petition... that's a good idea!!!! It would be great if we could post our art here, too!!!! That and a chat room is all that this web is missing, I think. What are those comics about? Fruits basket (in case you didn't know) is about a girl (Tooru, 16) that is an orphan (her mom just died) and lives in a camping tent until a boy from her class (Yuki, who happens to be the prince of the school) finds her and invites her to live at his house. He lives with his cousins Shigure (27) and Kyo (16, who really hates Yuki). Then she discovers (by accident) that those guys (and other members of their family) turn into the animals of the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac  whenever they bump into or hug somebody of the opposite gender! Sorry I explained it really badly, but it's a great comic. You asked about Spain? Well, I just moved here to Valladolid. I'd lived in Galicia (north of Spain) my whole life, but the climate (really, really wet) was affecting my parent's health (they could barely breathe, my dad has asthma) so we moved here, where it's nice and dry. But I miss going to the sea. (I think we all do.) Anyway, about Valladolid: It's the capital of Castille, and it's on a huge plain, and there are lots of vineyards and castles and old churches around here. Also a lot of just open country, but no sea. It's completely inland. Galicia, on the other hand, is wet and surrounded by sea. It's got a lot of forest and it's where the ancient Celts used to live.  I can't think of anything else to say, sorry!

Vampire Night is about a school with two classes: The Day Class and The Night Class.  The main character Yuki is a guardian (she keeps the Night Classes secret from the Day Class kids).  Yuki was attacked by a vampire ten years ago and can't remember her life before then!  Meru Puri is about a girl (I can't rememeber her name) who gets pulled through a mirror into another world.  And Sand Chronicles is about a girl named Anne who has moved to the small town of Shimane (I can't tell you any more or I'll ruin the story!).  Spain sounds soooooo amazing.  I have never been out of the US.  Ohio is just flat and boring.  I would love to go Europe.  Do you travel?  What is it like on the other side of the pond?

Wow, sounds cool....I should probably check 'em out on Onemanga soon... but I thought Yuki was a boy's name???!!! (Japanese names are so confusing.) I'm really happy today 'cuz I just bought two comics today: Rurouni Kenshin 2 and RG Veda CLAMP!!!!! By the way, any idea what CLAMP means??? and where's Shimane? Spain's not really that awesome. I'd like to visit more of the US. Yeah, my family does travel a lot, but it's mostly to the US (ALL our family is there), and we go to other countries, too, but it's mostly 'cuz my family has friends in a lot of different places! In fact, my best friend lives in England. (Boohoo, I hardly ever see her, like once a year.) I really like traveling.

And yes, it's me, Karen, but under a different alias (so far I've used Karen manga otaku, karen elf fan, karen b., zelda and link) I'm really a Legend of Zelda fan.

I just looked it up, and Yuki is the name they use.  I have no idea even how to pronounce the names...why are they so confusing -_-.  I don't know where Shimane is exactly, but it's pretty far from Tokyo (that plays into the story).  I just got another issue of Shojo Beat! It's the manga magazine I subscribe to.  I am so happy when I get it in the mail--it's almost like when I see Cricket in the mail!  Spain seems so cool to me just becase it's so different.  But the US is pretty amazing.  I've been all over, and there is no place I'd rather be (so patriotic ^_^).  I was wondering, why are you in Spain?  I was wondering because your family is over here and...yeah.  I'm also a big Zelda fan.  I only have one DS game but it's totally awesome! What is Kenshin and RG Veda CLAMP about?

Yuki is said Yookee (not to be mistaken with yucky lol) That magazine sounds great!!! I like the USA a lot, too. I'm gonna live there when I'm older (probably). We're here because... long story: my dad lived here when he was young, and though now my grandparents live in the US he moved back to Spain with my mom (who was American born and bred, but she really likes Spain) and works here as a translator with my mom (who's also an English teacher) and I think he does English groups with university students to help them or something... I'm not really sure what he does at groups, and 'cuz he has some old friends here, too. You ask why my grandparents moved here? They were some type of missionaries.

You have the DS? That's great! Me, too! Are you talking about The Phantom Hourglass? My friends here have it. too, but they say it's boring. We were gonna buy it but they discouraged us. I just love the TP for the Wii!!!!! I'm so Zelda otaku!!! Well, more precisely, Link otaku. (The PH graphics are soooo cute!) Let's see... CLAMP is about the sky kingdom that's been taken over by an evil emperor. But then the royal priestess escapes from the empero, and tells her old friend king Yasha (the king of one of the tribes of the sky kingdom, one of the emperor's subordinates) about a prophecy of a child who Yasha will adopt whose destiny is to kill him, and that will bring down the evil emperor and destroy the sky. So Yasha adopts the child against the emperor's wishes, and the wheels of destiny are set in motion... Sorry, another terrible explanation. I already explained about Kenshin in my post below... even though he's practically invincible, he's a really nice guy and it's a pretty funny comic... but I made a mistake on my post below, he's not an ex-samurai, he's an ex-assasin. It's great!!! But it's shonen, not shoujo.

I Just LOOOOOOVE MANGAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I
am SOOO an otaku too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In fact, I'm completely
obsessed!!! (And proud of it!) So far, I've only bought 6 Fruits Basket
comics and the 1st book of Rurouni Kenshin. Anyone heard of it? It's
REALLY good! It's about an unbeatable ex-samurai.

Anyone else like fruits basket out there? I just LOVE it. My
favorite characters are Yuki and Hatsuharu. Shigure's really funny!!!
But I don't like Aaya much, I think he's stupid. Momiji's so cute!
(Haru's so hot!).

I also love videogames, especially Legend of Zelda!!!! I LOVE
Link!!!! I have the Wii, and the Twilight Princess. (I know this isn't
really the place for this, but it's a form of manga!) My best friends
love it too.

I've been a fan for about five months now, since my best friend in
England showed me how to draw it. I draw pretty good I think. My
favorite thing to draw is bishies. I want to be a proffesional manga
artist. Unfortunately I hardly ever watch anime, 'cuz I don't have any
anime channels.

What I wanna know though is why most people have only heard of
Naruto???!!! It doesn't make sense!!! I mean, there are loads of other
comics out there!!!! I wanna buy Bleach comics right now for no obvious
reason :-D.
