CBER Q&A!

CBER Q&A!

I don't know where else to post this, so here. On This Month.

Basically, you can ask any CBer you want a question here.

All right...I have a question for...Elementgirl! If she comes to read this. If we would have continued the theater rpg, how do you think it would have ended? Happily ever after?

And then I have a question for Lucy! You like to swim, right? Is that your favorite sport? (It's the only thing even resembling a sport that I do :)  do you do it year round?

And then I have a question for all you homeschoolers! Do you go to resource centers? What curriculum or system do you use? Does anyone use the Veritas Press Omnibus curriculum???

Homeschoolers unite!

I've never been to a resource center, actually. We use Build Your Library mostly, although I'll kinda be free-forming a ninth-grade curriculum (CRAZY to think I'm almost a freshman in high school!!!) No, I've never used Omnibus, but I've heard of it!

Yes! Go homeschoolers!

There was a resource center we used to go to when I was really young, but I haven't been to one since. We've tried a few different curriculums. This year we're using My Father's World. Honestly, it's starting to get old for me. It's kinda repetitive, and I'm starting to get tired of doing the same things over and over. I've never heard of Veritas Press Omnibus, but it might be worth looking into!

I just posted my comment, not seeing that you use My Father's World too! I like it for the most part, but I can see where you're coming from, with the repetitiveness. Like, okay, fill out another president card, fill out another map, fill out another outline, etc...  (Agatha says 'funi'. Apparently, she thinks talking about My Father's World is 'funny'. XD I don't quite follow her sense of humor.)

Ah! I didn't know anyone else on here used it! Yeah...I do like some things about it, and I enjoy learning about other countries and cultures and such. I think I liked it better at the beginning of the year, before the whole, fill out another research sheet, read another two pages on this place, put another sticker in your passport...starts to get old.

(Nugget says fnon, which could mean any number if things having to do with funny or fun...)

I think it would have had a happy ending... The way we were going, not much else could have really happened XD.

AAAAHHH TWIN!!! I'm doing Omnibus III at my highschool resource center. It's really good! I've totally loved it. In our class, we have formal debates on the material (which are more exciting then watching sports events), and we write an essay based on The Lively Art of Writing every two weeks.

XD Homeschoolers unite. And no, we don't go to resource centers or use that curriculum that you mentioned. We use something called My Father's World, which is a Christian-based curriculum that ties in history with the bible and gives you more of an... overall picture of things than the other curriculums we've tried. And this is actually my last year of real homeschooling! It's off to online high school for me next year... *gulp*

I don't have a specific question for any CBer, but I noticed that there were a lot of homeschoolers here. Personally, I'm a public schooler, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. :)

I have a question for...Blue Moon!

Blue Moon, you have rats, right? I've wanted rats since second grade! However, I've never actually had the chance to talk with someone who owns any. What is it like to have rats as pets?

Well... let's see. Usually here I launch into a rat endorsement speech, but as you already want rats, I'll cut to what it's like to take care of them.

They're very playful and mischevious. This makes them really fun to have as pets, but they also take a lot of time. I usually spend about an hour a day with my ratties out of their cage, playing with them. They're sort of like dogs in their affectionateness and need to be out of their cage(unlike cats, hamsters, etc.)

Usually I have them out before school a bit in our living room and then after school in my bedroom. My ratties pretty much freerange although someone is needed to be watching them and there are a few off limits areas(like my closet, parent's bedroom, outside- the neighbors have cats- and the ilk.) You do have to check the areas to make sure they are safe for rats, and okay to be chewed a bit...

I really enjoy having them and love being with them. They're very affectionate, smart, and playful, and I think they're great pets. Before I got rats, I did lots of research, and I recommend you doing that as well. I can tell you more, and I also use the Rat Forum(moderated, but not like the Chatterbox- you're 14, right, so it should be fine) and some books like Training Your Pet Rat by by Gerry Buscis and Barbara Somerville. (There are a suprising amount of rat books out there).

I hope that answered your question! I probably overanswered it, but oh well. I'm a bit overenthusiastic when it comes to talking about fancy rats.

Yay, thank you so much, Blue Moon! This is so helpful!!! Do you have any tips on dealing with rat smell/scent marking?

Get girls.

That’s what I did, so I really don’t know that much. Girls do do it occasionally, so just clean up after them and give them baths occasionally, which does help. I looked on the Rat Forum, and it suggested that if it was a huge problem you could use a towel, or try to train them out of it with a slightly negative thing(like being put back in their cage) when they do it and give them praise or treats or whatever when they don’t, but if it’s not excessive you just have to live with it. Still, I say again:

Get girls.

If you have more questions, maybe we could make a thread or something? You could post questions and I could post my sage advice, and we could avoid an endless tail of replies.
