Art Contest: Inspired by a Story

Who wouldn’t love to be like Eric Carle and Maurice Sendak, creating beautiful illustrations for wonderful stories?  After reading this issue of Cricket, which celebrates some of the amazing artists featured in the Monsters and Miracles exhibition, everybuggy agreed that, for this month’s contest, we would like you to create a work of art inspired by a story you love.

Perhaps you’ll find your artistic muse illustrating a favorite picture book you begged your mother to read over and over when you were little, or a family story your parents tell on special occasions, or a novel that you are reading now. Your art can be in whatever style or medium you choose. You might prefer the collage style of Eric Carle, or the watercolors of Maurice Sendak, or something else entirely. Your illustration can be realistic or abstract, funny or serious, an imaginative fantasy or a warm family scene—whatever you think matches the mood of the story you have in mind.

Everybuggy will be sketching and painting around the Cricket Country mailbox, waiting to enjoy your very best work of art inspired by a favorite story. (Please write a title on the back of your artwork so everybuggy knows which story you are illustrating.)
