Contests

Music Poetry Contest

This issue of Cricket is alive with the sound of music! From violins and cellos, to plains flutes, didgeridoos, tabors, and even elephant songs. And let’s not forget Old Cricket’s praise of that wonderful instrument, the human voice. For this month’s contest, everybuggy wanted to read your best poem with a song in its heart.

Maybe you will write a poem inspired by your favorite piece of music or composer. Or perhaps you will write about your piano recital, or how fun it would be if you and your friends formed a rock band, or what it’s like to play in the school orchestra. Will you write a “What Am I” poem (it needn’t be a shape poem) about an instrument—maybe even a little known instrument from history or another culture? Perhaps you will write lyrics for a song—a lullaby for your pet like the lullaby Aung sings to Bandoola. If you’re a Kyngdom fan, you might write song lyrics for a group performing at the Bog & Burrow. Be sure to include the name of the group! (The Real Beetles? Buggy Holly and the Crickets?)

Whatever music inspires your muse, the Cricket Bug Band will be live in concert at the Cricket Country mailbox, waiting to sing the praises of your best musical poem of 24 lines or less. It’s as easy as do re mi!
