New Art Contest: Cooking

The holiday season has everybuggy’s taste buds tingling and tummies rumbling. Making a nourishing meal can bring us together. But grand plans for a deluxe dessert can go up in flames. For this month’s contest, everybuggy would like to see your best drawing of whipping up something special to eat.

Will you find inspiration in your own home and family traditions, or will you look to the past and illustrate a historical way of preparing food? You might imagine futuristic baking techniques with nifty gadgets that have yet to be invented. Will you draw a cozy kitchen, a big cookout, or a grill at a busy restaurant? Perhaps you’ll paint a frustrated baker, like the one in “Pick a Pickle” who can’t bake crispy bagels because his oven is too old and cold. Or maybe you’ll showcase an unusual cooking method like how Abdul Ali in “How Much Does Steam Cost?” finds a clever way to flavor his bland bread. Your cuisine could even be for a critter, like how the father in “The Pirate King” tries to tempt an injured cat with a homemade fish dinner.

Whether your chef is a human, an animal, or an imaginary creature and whether the delish dish is a familiar favorite or something totally out of this world, all the hungry bugs in Cricket Country are holding their forks and spoons and drooling by the mailbox, ready to dig in to your best original food-themed artwork.
