Poetry Contest About Friends

It’s January, and everybuggy enjoyed a wonderful New Year’s Eve party. George and Tail decorated the mansion, Muffin made her special punch, and Ladybug read about fifty-seven new poems. What could be better than waiting for the clock to strike twelve, to ring out the old and ring in the new with all your friends? George and Tail resolved to stay close friends (as if they could ever drift apart), to remember the good times, forget the bad times, and look forward to meeting new friends in the coming year. Their friendly resolution made everybuggy want to see your best poem about friends.

Will you write about friends who are just alike—always laughing together and enjoying the same things—or friends who have very different personalities, like Cricket and Ladybug? Maybe you’ll write about friends who make up after a spat, as Emily and her cat, Sergei, do. Or about friends who have an adventure together, like Fable Thatcher and Luminè. Will you write about the good times, like a friend’s surprise birthday party, or the sad times, like when a good friend moves away? Maybe you’ll write about unusual friendships among people or even animals.

Whatever you choose, all the good friends in Cricket Country will be slipping and sledding and slogging through the January snow to curl up with a cup of cocoa and your best poem—of 24 lines or less, please—about friends. Happy New Year!
